I think Islanders are the dark horse of the East this season.

I said since day one that if things go well for them, they’ll have a shot at a wild card spot. With under 20 left, I seem pretty bang on. Fighting tooth and nail for wild card status.
Yes 5-7 points right behind the Rangers and Lightning . You gotta love it!

Isles are an interesting bunch, playing short handed looking like they are dusting off their "inner Trotz" With Sorokin in net, some game breakers with Barzal and Hovat playing with a bunch of guys that went to back to back ECF's they may not even have to play the coked up bear in beantown. That's if Barzal and JPG get back in the lineup anytime soon.

JGP practiced the last couple days in a regular jersey. Should be back next game or the one after. Replacing Koivula with him is MASSIVE.

That’s true I don’t think it is too far fetched that they frog leap the Rags at this point the way they have been playing.

Yeah he reverted back to his old self against Buffalo.

Rangers have that gear or switch they can flip and take off. Don't think they catch the blue shirts. But what do i know. I'm sure the guys in the locker room are eying the 3rd spot on the metro as a goal

I've seen the Islanders make a lot of big acquisitions over the years that were immediately, and transparently awful fits. The ones that come to mind are Trevor Linden, Wendel Clark, and Kirk Muller. (Yashin for all that happened with him as not as bad as those three).

Horvat is not setting the world on fire (tbh he's been snakebitten), but he's an excellent fit for their style of play. He's such a patient player. For all NYI lack that dynamic element (I won't deny NYI lack dynamic play from their skaters), it's like they have a captain on the ice at all times.

I don't know what's going to happen, and I am neither predicting success (nor jinxing NYI), but I really hope they make the playoffs for Anders Lee's sake. It's pretty special, imo, for a big guy like him to have worked himself back from a torn ACL the way he has. The guy works so hard.

I'm rooting for Lee and the entire team. Just look at Cizikis, Clutterbuck, and Martin. Three warriors who deserve their names on the Cup. They just work so hard. They might not have the high end talent but this is a team that doesn't quit. It's not the Islander way to tank so we end up with the middle of the road players year after year but they make the best of what talent they have and usually it's enough to go far even into the playoffs. They fight for every inch of the ice where most other teams would just quit.

With Horvat this team is much stronger and he might be the final piece of the puzzle that was missing the past 2 Eastern Conference Finals a couple of years back. The team is ripe to make a deep run. They are built for the ruggedness required to make a true playoff push.

I see on HF the Isles are back to being talentless and boring again. Thats a good sign.
yeah back to playing playoff style hockey which as we know is another level of intensity as opposed to the ice capades we see quite often the first few months of the season. I was surprised PK Subban didn’t recognize it based on his in between period commentary. Been awhile since he played in the playoffs so maybe that’s it.

Lou Lams boring'd his way to 3 Cups in NJ. He doesn't like exciting haircuts. Or exciting numbers. Or exciting defense. Lou loves the smell of boring in the morning. It smells like... victory.

It's like some fans are saying, "Hey our team played with no heart, no work ethic, no desire, no pride- in other words, they tanked for these players" but your players do the exact opposite. They work for their victories. They show pride, determination, honor, fortitude, heart when they should just be rolling over and give space to these great young players so they can WOW the league. What they are doing is boring and bad for the league. Really?

How about they earn their points and wins just like all teams should earn their talented players- through hard work and dedication, but our wonderful always been woke league rewards lazy teams with the best shiny new players. Why can't a team like the Isles who historically have strong work ethic get any of these players as a reward for working hard? Why reward the teams that just mailed it in year after year and now expect the rest of us to worship them? Why reward players like Subban who showed no heart his entire career have a voice on ESPN? How is this good for the league? It should be players like Thomas Hickey who should be educating the general public on what hockey is all about.

Surely a hard working team with heart like the Isles is better for the league and more importantly would provide a better environment for these top prospects to succeed than just to watch all that talent squandered with fans who feel entitled and poorly structured systems designed only to delight these said fans but totally fail when it matters?

But things haven’t gone well for them… they’ve been depleted by injuries all year including guys like pelech pageau and Barzal. Just say you were wrong

Good god the Islanders create boring games to watch. I feel like I’m transported back to 2002. That team in the playoffs is not good for hockey.

It’s not their fault that the Sabres suck. Be nice

Isles as a wild card team can do some damage and stop boston in the first round. Sorokin should play like a madman.
