I think Islanders are the dark horse of the East this season.

Isles are built for this kind of hockey. The teams chasing them have a thing or two to learn before they will just take a spot from a veteran team. Once barzal comes back, this team has great potential with sorokin in net.

Buffalo Ottowa and FL are all close and have games in hand to draw even or within a point... If they make the playoffs who knows.

This was a big game for the Isles because of that. Even if those teams all win their games in hand we're still up in the first tiebreak Regulation Wins.

That being said, I wouldn't be bumping this thread just because we saved a spot in the wild card spot for another game or two...still a lot left in the season.

I mean Bostons pretty much clinched, It would take an astronomical regulation loss losing streak for the Canes to be out... Similar for NJ...

Everyone else? It's doable to move up and down the slots depending on what kind of streaks you go on.

Well from what I recall this team was supposed to be a lottery team. They seem closer to that darkhorse moniker than a lottery team at this point in time and with every win they are getting closer.

And last season they were a consensus pre season Cup Champ.... The east was so set in stone last season by this point... at least this sets up some late season drama.
 
This goal by Toews was called off for a distinct kicking motion and I think Fasching's was more obvious so I think the call on the ice was correct. Buffalo fans have the right to be angry but in all fairness the Islanders clearly outplayed them this game.



My problem with this call is that although it was a clear kicking motion it deflected off the goaltenders pads and then into the net. Shouldn't that count? It wasn't directly kicked into the net.
 
Good god the Islanders create boring games to watch. I feel like I’m transported back to 2002. That team in the playoffs is not good for hockey.

I said since day one that if things go well for them, they’ll have a shot at a wild card spot. With under 20 left, I seem pretty bang on. Fighting tooth and nail for wild card status.
 
They have a record that should get them into the playoffs. That’s about the best thing I can say. Certainly not must watch television when they are on.

Yeah. They're not getting out of the first round. Not enough talent on that squad. Unfortunately, they're likely to always be a team that's never quite good enough compared to the top tier teams with game breaking talent. Their boring ass defensive style of hockey levels the playing field a bit, but they don't have the game breakers to make a run and likely won't any time soon. The league is better off for it, anyways.

If boring means outshooting your opponents 40-25, smothering and frustrating the leagues talents and winning games for the home team. I will take it every day of the week! Boring is beautiful!
