Babcock was making passive aggressive comments about Spezza before camp even started that offseason

Spezza like Holl, Leivo, Martin was just one of those guys Babcock had no interest in playing.

Edit: it caused immediate controversy in the Toronto media too, seems like it was Babs playing mind games with management at the expense of a well respected vet 'It's a joke': Reaction to Mike Babcock scratching Jason Spezza for Toronto Maple Leafs opener - TSN.ca

A lot of the BS with Babs could have been avoided if Dubas actually tried to build the type of team he wanted instead of the Charmin soft crew he has now.

You don't get players that don't fit your coach at all because of s computer or you can try to match your formula whatever to what works with the coach. This is what Lou is best at imo. Dubas only has one way of doing stuff and it's blowing up

Care to enlighten those of us that haven't?
The poster i quoted said Babcock was a hard ass, old school coach constantly trying to improve the team and work on our difficiencies and Dubas replaced him with a yes man who follows analytics. In the doc, Keefe was a hard ass constantly flipping out on the team and pulling players aside when they weren't doing their job. From the 1st episode at the start of the season he was trying to instill playoff habits and get them to play a certain way but the overall attitude of the room was complacency because they were in 1st place.

Many posters here including ones who constantly bash Dubas and Keefe said they have a new respect for Keefe and see the players as the problem for not buying in and showing poor attitude. Keefe was seeing old habits creeping in right from the start of the season and was hard on the team even though they were in 1st place and trying to break them of it but the overall team attitude was like "what's his problem".

I wish we'd kept Babcock - he's the better coach.

Having said that, what he did to Spezza was disgraceful at the time, and looks even worse in hindsight as Spezza seems to be carrying the team now, even with no "C" on his chest and he's doing it for $750k.

He's not better by any metric. Ever.

After 2 coaches, does anyone think it might be time to look at the players themselves?

Some people never look at the players.

As much as they could have made better moves, I don’t see how they can build a championship contender when the 4 players making half the cap don’t carry teams. Matthews is the only one but Tavares and Marner aren’t worth the contract. We give Nylander a break at 7 mill but he’s less than a point per game player.

Not gonna happen with these contracts. Next rebuild….
