I have reserved judgement, saying my piece in the offseason. I crawl from under my rock to explain the issues.

This is very true. Same with that blues team and capitals team and Avalanche team. You need big strong defenders who offer good defence or good checking or both. How many leafs defencemen can you say has one of those 2 traits, maybe giordano Who not any fault of his own is old and is doing his best but can’t do it full time. look what Rutherford did in Vancouver, brought in Soucy and Cole. both Big strong defenders. We bring in klingberg…

Everyone said this when Pariah cancer Dubas signed all our money away. We can and we will was the worst moment in leafs history…

So heavy in 4 guys isn’t going to work.
You will need D and a good solid supporting cast.

Last years team was Dubas final swing and the entire division has caught up and we got raped by Florida and barely beat a depleted Tampa missing top player.

It’s a miracle… or we need some BIG changes.

Keefe and Marner should go and that’s just to start.

Our problem is and has been for the last 5/6 years is defense. It’s the same every year. We have no toughness or size to clear the front of the net or block out the opposing forwards.
Look at Las Vegas defense. Built for playoff hockey. All big all strong and you have to fight to get to the net for a rebound.
Our defense let’s the opponent go hard to the new without having to pay a price

And to add to that problem, our forwards don't do well against the other teams' opposing big, strong defencemen who make getting to the net difficult or extremely unpleasant if you get there. Our stars seem unwilling to pay the price and instead are content to just fire the puck from the outside.

Which goes back to a point I made earlier: The core issue is the core guys that we've got refuse to change or adapt their approach. The belief in MLSE land has seemed to be if they just keep running back with a different supporting cast next maybe they'll do better. They don't.

Out of Tavares, Willie, Mitch and Auston only #34 seems to have altered his game over the years adding some physicality, finishing checks, and even engaging in the odd scrum. It's a start but until all four learn to accept that hockey is a tough game, start to add some nasty to their game and make the front of the net a destination that no one is going to stop them from getting to, even a "Stanley Cup caliber" blue line won't be able push this team to the next level.

Ironically Tres big offseason free agency signings show the problem with the idea of "we just need to spread the cap around".

Domi - Bertuzzi - Klingberg all pricey support pieces and none of have been effective so far. If we had flipped Nylander or Marner for futures and then justified it by saying signing of Bertuzzi to a long term deal this summer it would have been a complete flop

I can’t wait until the shanaplan era is over so I can experience the next era of pain in whatever incompetent fool MLSE deems necessary…being a leafs and jays fan is really painful.

If we had that much cap / picks I would have been hoping they would be looking at D and bottom 6 Cs. Dubas traded away our picks leisurely so we don't really have enough legit replacement / supplemental players at positions. He really was one of the most terrible GMs in Leafs history and the fact people here sing his praises still is unreal to me.

Bert will likely come around. Domi looks like a mess along with Kling

It's so hard to understand what these guys are thinking.

There's a very good reason for that. None of us can know what they're gonna do next if they don't. Which they clearly don't.

Everything is all higgledy piggledy.

Personally I'm all for sacrificing the foot to save the leg. Continuity is a bad thing if it means continued mediocrity. If it takes missing the playoffs to purge the team of these idiots so be it.

Why are the fans willing to tolerate such incompetent management anyway?

Everyone from Shanahan on down has not proven to be good at their jobs. This team has the longest streak without a cup in all hockey. They no longer deserve the benefit of doubt.

At this point the whole Shanaplan appears to be nothing more than throwing shit at the wall and hoping something sticks.

I am a really simple person. Being a simple person, I make simple observations.

Larry T has been in control of this team since Stavro left. Stavro put together solid teams year after year and was on the right track for the most part.

Larry T and keeping popular players that sell a lot of merch (for too long even) goes hand in hand. It even happened under the Raptors recently, was that Masai or was it the owner in charge all along?

I think it stems down from Larry personally.

Tannenbaum is part of the problem too
He could have stepped in to give dubas the autonomy he wanted .
He let Shanahan hire a tire fire gm .
Tannenbaum is a friend of trelivings dad
This has Ballard era odor to it
One thing MSLE can't ignore is the brutal play at home and never showing up on time
MSLE SHOULD HIRE MUSAI AS PRESIDENT

I agree.

Tanenbaum is the owner. If you're looking to blame someone, blame him. Blame Tanenbaum.

His team, his fault.

How did this team lose Muzzin and Kadri, go from clowning on Tkachuk to having him destroy the remaining players souls last year?

This team needs 4 or 5 Jake Muzzin’s.

Losing him, I think, was the last pin holding back the floodwaters of p***yfication on this team.

I can’t believe we lost Jake Muzzin to a career ender like that. Doesn’t even seem that common someone ends up on LTIR for multiple seasons.

They need an Owner like the Argos.
I'm not a fan but can admit they've done an amazing job with that team.

This has nothing to do with ownership , the Raps won a championship and the Argos can also win .

The issues started when Shanny hired an incompetent GM who still hasn't learned a damn thing as evidenced by his off season moves in Pitt .

when you looked at the team Dumbass took over it's easy to see the last thing needed was an overrated , overpaid big name free agent like JT

after that it was pretty much just short sighted moves and shuffling of the deck chairs

it's not easy to acquire talents like AM/Mitch/Willie and to squander it away like that piece pf crap Dubas did is criminal

Ironically, I was going to suggest in this rant that one small move they could make would be to call up Robertson. Move players around based on a meritocracy. They are hamstrung in the Cap dept.

In the end the only way this team ever wins a Cup in my lifetime is if some really wealthy American hockey fan decides, "I want to overpay to buy the Maple Leafs and hire the most intelligent people on earth. Their task is simple: "make any decision you want, but I expect a Cup ".

The Corporation isn't going to win a Cup. The owners will be a footnote in history, "another group that failed". The teams problems are so glaringly obvious too. have been for years.

Elon Musk overpaid for the company formerly known as Twitter, would he be interested?

You mean a bunch of good players who like playing in Toronto and won't let a bunch of _____ fans run them out of town?
nah, how about a bunch of overpaid/under performing divas who could care less about winning as long as they get paid, just like the original Muskoka Five...........

I mean a bunch of players who don't see winning as #1 priority.

You earn your salary in the regular season. You earn your reputation in the playoffs.

And their reputation sucks.

The problem is the shitty ass D and goaltending Dubas left us with with no immediate way to fix it. Brodie, Gio, McCabe, not caring to replace Muzzin properly etc.

Our forwards have collectively out played the other team in almost every game thus far.
