Andersen has not been his usual self, apparently injuries, but he is 13 8 2 and a good part of those losses came recently with his injury. Saying he's not doing his job isn't fairPeople expect too much from a backup goalie making peanuts. Hutchinson is doing his job and maybe more than his job this year so far, Andersen is not.
Hutchinson isn't going to be one of the 3 stars every game, but if he plays at least ok in most games then that's what you want out of a backup. Gives you a chance most nights.
Andersen has an .897 SV% on the season and a .903 SV% since March of 2019.Andersen has not been his usual self, apparently injuries, but he is 13 8 2 and a good part of those losses came recently with his injury. Saying he's not doing his job isn't fair
Hutch playing good now he just needs to look good.
Ditch the current crappy pads and mask.
Time to make the Potvin tribute mask permanent, get some blue pads without Leafs logos plastered everywhere.
As a goalie nerd it’s always been baffling why more Leaf goalies don’t go with a predominately blue pad set up. The white with blue accents everybody seems to go for can get so boring.
I always wondered if there was any science put into how the designs are colored on a goalie pads? Depending on the colors you paint a room, it can create optical illusions to make the room look bigger/smaller. Can you do the same with goalie pad designs?
Has there been any research put into pads and the colors and designs on them, that could trick the shooter? I always wondered if some goalies pick a certain design to make the shooter think there is an opening, something to encourage a shooter to shoot at a certain spot, but in reality there is no opening?
Or is all just fashion choices?
Can't remember if it was something I read or it was on TV, but they talked about white goalie pads, or pads that had a lot of white on the inside of parts of each leg. It concluded that the white were more deceptive in ways that the shooter could think they are shooting at an open area (ice is coloured white), or at least not shooting into the legs pads. Is this really effective........who knows. There is so much traffic in front of the net in today's game, that the concept sure sounds plausible.

It seems like the color scheme would depend on if you have a 5 hole problem or not. If you do, you probably don't want people shooting there with white on the pads making it look more attractive. I wasn't a goalie though in my playing days.
Like I said he is not playing to his standard, but to say he is not doing his job is unfair when he still has a good record this year.Andersen has an .897 SV% on the season and a .903 SV% since March of 2019.
They've won games this season despite his play. Similar to Raycroft in 2006-2007.
He was only winning because the team was outscoring his faults. Thats not doing his job.Like I said he is not playing to his standard, but to say he is not doing his job is unfair when he still has a good record this year.
The question wasn't is he playing well, it was is he doing his job, and yes he is.
Can he play better? Yes I hope so but again, that was not the question
First no team wins without out scoring the other team.He was only winning because the team was outscoring his faults. Thats not doing his job.

..or he was only losing because he could not stop the teams defensive lapses.
I couldn't agree more and watching this young kid the Avs had to play develop from a sieve to a legit platoon goalie in just a few games tells me we still have serious issues in our goalie coaching dept .Look whatever he did in his Avs time helped him out a lot ... last year he looked bad with Marlies and Leafs ... this year he is acceptable as 3rd stringer
