I'm experiencing the same thing. I use NordVPN and when I try to watch Devils games it takes forever for the ESPN+ app to load. Usually it will let me watch part of the game, and then sometime at the end of the 1st/beginning of the 2nd my feed suddenly goes to black and when I try to pull it up again the game is listed as blacked out in my area.

I'm very close to just cancelling ESPN+ and pirating every stream like I used to back in the day, it's a terrible product with so many performance issues it's not even funny.
I finally did that about a week or so ago. Which sucks working nights because I often miss the games live and would usually watch the replay on the app. The stupid thing kept saying they were sending me an email to confirm my account, but sent nothing, so I tried it a few more times and then got locked out of my Disney/ESPN account because of it. I finally said f*** this and canceled the damn thing. I'm not going to keep paying for a service that is spotty at best.

Saw first two periods. Didn't see anything that stood out. Thought Jake Allen played really well.

Was more unimpressed with the Oilers than anything the Devils did.

To be fair if you missed the 3rd, you missed this teams better play. That would skew the game view a bit. It just happened to be our better period.

We weren't good for half the game though that is for sure and yes Allen was great ALL game.

I am now becoming more and more convinced that coaching has a bigger impact than I originally thought. The way this team has improved defensively as a whole unit is significant. They may still not be a top team and I still am unsure about the core’s ceiling but Sheldon has certainly had a positive impact.

The Haula, Noesen line is such a pleasant gift for us to finally have a third line that is effective and feels “real”.

Edmonton actually played very well. They had legs were moving the puck crisply. the devils played really good in the sense that they kept much of edmonton's pressure to the outside, let very few secondary scoring chances and stayed out of the penalty box. a great road win for NJ

You two are on a first name basis? Does he get a lot of Big Bang Theory jokes he gets annoyed with?

yeah the defense really is night and day. even when we're getting scored on it doesn't necessarily feel inevitable like it has in the past.
I have a hard time with this. Allen clearly plays well and we're now saying the defense is playing very well.

I'm usually more of a "goalies are a product of the system" person. But, I can see the other side as well - that good goalie play helps the system look good and gives confidence to the team to play better. And that's what last night's game seemed to be like.

The highlights from this game (I only saw the third live) make it feel like at least a couple of the many chances the Oilers had would normally go in. Maybe one more for the Devils too? But, the Noesen and Bratt goals - while good chances - are often saves too.

To me, this could easily have been 3-1 or 3-2 Oilers headed into the third. Would we still be saying positive things about the defense at that point?

I still think the team is a work in progress with a lot of room for improvement. But, being able to say that while the team is still managing to put up a 93 - 98 point pace is great.

Yeah, Allen played really well last night, saving something like 3 goals above expected. I don't think the team was particularly locked in.

But they're top 5 in xGA overall. So speaking generally, the devils have been one of the stingiest teams defensively this season, and I think that's been apparent. Results haven't always followed, but the Devils are playing pretty well, better than the results to date, I think.

I have to use a VPN to correct my location because for some reason the ESPN+ app thinks I’m on Long Island when I live in Miami. I’ve had problems a few times with ESPn+ starting the game. I usually have to clear the cache and force restart the app and then it works. I think the issue is the ad inserts they put in. By the time the game starts it usually works fine.

Too late now and I should have shared this before the game last night, but if you have a Prime account and a VPN if you set it to Canada you can get Prime’s Monday Night game which last nights game was.

And the things that xGA tends to miss that the Devils were bad at last year, they are much less bad at this year.

They give opponents less space and time, less cross slot passes get through, less uncontested guys in front of the goalie, and more guys fighting to clear rebounds compared to last year and xGA in public models don’t really capture most of that.

The Devils look pretty professional defending this year while they looked amateur the last few.
