Is it possible this season has been the clusterf*** that it is due to the supposedly easy training camp Lavi is said to run, since a number of these players likely showed up to camp already out of shape
There are players that never recovered from the playoffs last year.

As I've pointed out multiple times, when lavy was fired in phili it was in part bc Bobby Clarke said it was the worst training camp he had ever seen. Now if that was repeated this year then that is on drury for not being aware of a historical issue and ensuring it did not repeat itself.

Guentzel is a different type of motor. His deal won't age well but I think the idea was to add a motor guy to his two malcontents, instead he pivoted to got another malcontent to add to the two he had. He publicly stated after the playoffs his main goal was to get a rw for Mike and kreider. Smith is what he was stuck with. And they came to camp with the forwards all set, no competition. An absolute joke that again breeds entitlement
The implication being that Kreider was annnoyed about the Goodrow thing? What was the source of his discontent?

What is hilarious about removing trouba, elevating Schneider, and adding an elite player like guentzel?
I edited that part out because it’s kind of a different discussion, and I’m more interested in the question.

But since you asked: I essentially think it’s a lipstick on a pig thing. If you know there’s a malcontent (who’s movable), don’t shape your team around them.

I don’t think most people thought Kreider was a malcontent before now. So, if Drury knew that, why didn’t he try to move him?

I’m glad Trouba decided to stick it to Drury if that was his genius plan. Did he really think Jake Guentzel was the missing piece? Imagine Guentzel playing with Kreider and Zibanejad, he’d be on pace for 35 points.
Trouba didn’t only stick it to Drury, Trouba stuck it to us.
Lose, Lose.

I said this the moment the trade happened and was absolutely ganged up on by this board. Smith was a panic move. I said it back then. The move Drury was aiming was trouba trade, buyout holl, sign elite UFA winger that signed in Florida.

This teams core (not just trouba) derailed that whole plan...
The entire offseason was a panic move. They are so f***ing unwilling to admit that they aren’t good enough and to hit the reset that they desperately clung to Lindgren and foolishly traded for Smith. They should have traded Kreider instead and told Mika he could go as well or he would be stapled to Kakko all year.

The issue here is that at the time I don't think the expectation was that the team would tweak is support of trouba nor that they would emotionally crumble with him divested.

People that have not played on a high level team do not always understand that a player's value to the team is not simply limited to their value on the ice. Trouba's play slipped but his value off ice was very important to this group as it was/is structured. Trading him kicked the emotional crutch out from under the lifeless cor(ps)e

Look, that kreider hat trick against the canes did more damage to this franchise than people can even quantify. Drury knew the truth about the team, but that hatty tricked so many people. If they finish their collapse to the canes then we aren't here today with the mess we currently have.

This coach and the majority of this roster won the President's Trophy last year. This team is loaded with individual talent but lacks grit and chemistry. I'm pretty sure the GM is interfering with this coach as he did with the last one and it's affecting the entire team. Fire Drury.
It’s really not loaded with individual talent. Too many players you think of as talented, in reality have stunk at 5v5 forever and now even stink on special teams.

Chytil, Lafreniere, Cuylle, Berard, Edstrom need to play much more. Carrick too he has been a good addition. Kakko's lack of foot speed is a legit problem. Rangers need to play the guys who can skate.

The pp success and Igor masked so much shit. People here actually thought a pp could ride a team to a cup and seemed to forget what playoff hockey is like as you get into the last two rounds. It's a grind and a war, and our roster is weak and undersized in spaces that you need mules to win

God this is such a load of shit (not on you).

A player's value is that of his contract % to what he brings to the table.

If Trouba & Goodrow brought "leadership" or what the f*** ever, but were clear detriments ON THE ICE, as they were (sans Goody in the LAST PLAYOFF ONLY)

Then so f***ing what????

This team can't deal then get rid of all of 'em

What a p***y EXCUSE

MAKES ME f***ING SICK SUPPOSED MEN MAKING MILLIONS ARE SUCH PANSIES

f*** THEM ALL

If you think guentzel would play the same as Smith any further conversation is unnecessary

Please look at his career arc and then try to justify how this would be the same as Smith?

Also Smith can't skate, the nyr roster can't skate, why add another bad skaters to a team of bad skaters?

if you think this teams problem is that it needs another overpaid winger then yeah, any further conversation is unnecessary

Wherever the keg is!
I'm not even kidding, my wife was next to me and said she married me because I'm loyal and won't leave no matter how bad it gets

Must be nice because I'm at the point with this team, much like I am with her, when she still asks me what is icing for the 1000th time:

"Icing is what makes the ground hard for your standard shovel, so you use an excavator for the bodies."

The players in that room thought that they ran the organization. That's why I told this board a few weeks ago there was a war brewing between the players and management. Management let them shoot themselves in the foot to start the season based on what the players wanted, not here we are in utter disfunction.

I didn't say it was the fix and I've said center here for years. You're the one that compares Smith's play to guentzel so just own that it was a ridiculous take and move on. Don't try to internet spin shit...

How in the hot f*** is Zibanejad in the top 4 in points on this team?
Says a lot about the team eh

I know it's a delicate question, and I only saw the 1st period; but did anyone actually notice KK missing from the lineup? Like how many times did you think 'oh, if only Kakko was in that spot'?
Yes.

I'm old enough to remember when the Chytil-Cuylle-Kakko line was the best line in the league and the biggest reason we got off to an 8-2-1 start

You said guentzel's production would be the same as Smith and that Smith has been fine. Both are false statements by any objective metric

nope. try again. is reading comprehension a problem for you?

I said that the results, as in the teams results, would barely be any different with Guentzel on the team, playing with Zibanejad. maybe we would have 2 or 3 more wins or something? Guentzel has 10 even strength goals (playing with better players than he would here) and Smith has 6, there's an objective metric for you. it would do nothing to help any of the major problems this team has.

and then I said that Smith has been fine for what he is, in that he is a player we got off the scrap heap that doesn't have a huge cap hit. he's on a 40 point pace, that seems fine to me? is that an objective enough metric for you?
