As I have said, the org is giving the malcontents the noose for themselves. You need to remember that this is a business and the real economic drivers of the business are not the majority of the fans on a message board. It's the corporate partners and if nyr blows up the core that the corporate partners bought into and sponsored than nyr better be able to justify why. They just had a 6 month pr ordeal with their team captain that was doing commercials for one of their biggest sponsors and then they ran his ass out of town. The dismantling of a core and team that the organization sold to corporate sponsors needs to be done strategically and done in a manner that the org looks like it had no other choice.
I don’t think it’s that deep. I think it’s Lavi putting out the top guys to say to his boss and the media, this is the hand you’ve dealt me.

Ryan Lindgren a war crime.
I think @BBKers talked about it here but in the 1980s it seemed that the average NHLer had a shorter career. Than came the 1990s-pre lockout and guys would stick around forever.

Lindgren's had a similar trajectory to Tom Laidlaw or someone like that. He'll hang around for a few more years and be out of the league before 2030.

Watching Tropic Thunder, and I'm pretty sure Mika is like RDJ...he's a DJ playing a hockey player disguised as a top-6 player.
80% of the music industry today is Instagrammers and Activists posing as musicians. He'd fit in!

Chose to sit through wicked with the Mrs. instead of watching this. Happy to see our youth getting on the scoresheet. Anything else notable?

It's painfully and definitively apparent that we're not competing this year and I honestly think that is exactly what this organization needs.

There are no trophies for losing in the ECF (except the prez trophy, I guess, but who cares about that). I'd rather them punt this year and retool on the fly.

I'm not worried about their value being low. It'll peak at the deadline with contending teams biting off on the hope that they were just in a bad situation (they are) and that they're still the players they once were. We can also retain on Kreider if need be.

Zibanejad I have no idea what we're going to do with. People think his problem is mental.. I think it's way more physical. He looks like he hasn't touched a weight since 2021. His explosiveness is completely gone.

The facts are, this core got old, had kids, and isn't as hungry as they once were. Family 100% has an effect on performance no matter how much money you make, and that is true for all industries.
Not every player can maintain themselves after they get a 5-8 year contract. Honestly, I can't believe how Panarin has reinvented himself. He still have flaws but he has made adjustments to make his enormous talent show through despite the lack of support. He could have easily mailed it in like some others have.

Just going through the motions. At some point you deal with each of them even if it's for less value simply to not infect your next waive of players.

Lindgren is limited and will do better in a more defined role on another team. Kakko just needs to go. Laffy is very soon going to need to define his career arc bc right now he is a passenger that is content being the goofy comedic relief far too often instead of being the engine that stands out the way that we know he can be and that he has shown at times. Laffy is way too impressionable and needs the right influences around him. Kakko is to f***ing arrogant and thinks nothing is his fault. Years ago there were reports that kakko was not particularly liked in the locker room. He has never been a fit here, but laffy cannot be tainted otherwise he will see another Alex Daigle level waste of ability by a player that just had his head filled with too much fluff.

Beyond that, what is vesey doing here in 2024? Brodzinstink? 13th forward that has no defining skill for the NHL and is simply here bc they have no other center options for depth in the org.

Trocheck looks gassed, completely toasted after all the hockey last year. He played 22-24 mins at times last year in part bc of chytils injury and zibs suckiness, and he also played the most hockey games he had in a season. Guy is gassed and needs his minutes slashed. He can be a part of the solution if you put him in a place to ce successful again, but he also might be one of the most attractive trade assets we have.

Truth is there aren't a lot of pieces here that you would identify that you want to keep if you were building a team. There are some, but it's just a horrible mix that was empowered bc it had elite goaltending to prop it up as a better team than it ever was.

This is going to get more messy before it gets better.

Mika, no stride, glides to the corner, wrists it and peels off. Just as a teammate I would be all over him and in his face. That's just unacceptable. Guy is turning into a malcontent.

Oook

So he benched them to make a point and then put them out in the last minute to try to tie the game?

This isn't the Islanders where the coach is calling out he gm for the roster.

Drury and Lavy both know this mix is shit. Lavy has to go in front of the cameras every game and try to talk despite the shock and awe of his team's performance. Drury gets to hide and show up when he wants.

Avs, Panthers, even the Blues' style would fit him much better, just for starters.
Kakko needs a cultural reinforcement that he matters and that bc he matters he needs to bring it. Kakko has NEVER mattered here. Panarin didn't want to play with him, he got bounced around the lineup, he always gets scratched when things aren't going well for the team, the organization has systematically ostracized him. He needs to go somewhere with a strong team culture that will drag him in. Nyr was the worst place for him simply for how disjointed the team is away from the rink. Nyr is unlike almost any other team in the NHL with how separated the players are away from the rink and for a person like kakko it's easy for him to drift away from the group.

Admittedly on this one I don't know anything, but I look at kakko and wonder if the avs wouldn't be a great place for him. He trains with rantanen, there is Finnish support there, they have starts to carry the mail and that also demand the rest of the team follows suit, and he would have no choice but to engage and do better otherwise Nate dog would break him. He also feels like nichushkin insurance for them.
Kakko for Sam Girard has seemed like an obvious fit to me for ages.

Watching Mika tonight was like watching someone that has checked out. Either he has some serious stuff happening away from the rink or he's checked out and telling the team he doesn't care bc he doesn't think they can touch him. We going to end up with Louie Eriksson here?

Girard is small and can't defend against physical teams. He will fit right in with fox and jones

If we could get Liam bischel and 2nd from the stars for kreider I think I would do it at this point. Prefer a 1st, but not sure that's reasonable. They have a ton of d and bischel is going to be a very good player.

Reilly Smith was an awful, awful piece of business by Drury from the get go. You have a team full of guys that can't skate, so let's add another guy that can't skate for the top 6.

This team needs like 3 Carl Hagelins. They are one of the slowest teams I've legitimately ever watched.

You’ve been very down on Fox lately, any idea what’s happened here? Is it as simple as he got paid and the work ethic disappeared? Is it frustration or some lingering injury?

I said this the moment the trade happened and was absolutely ganged up on by this board. Smith was a panic move. I said it back then. The move Drury was aiming was trouba trade, buyout holl, sign elite UFA winger that signed in Florida.

This teams core (not just trouba) derailed that whole plan...
