I know it's a delicate question, and I only saw the 1st period; but did anyone actually notice KK missing from the lineup? Like how many times did you think 'oh, if only Kakko was in that spot'?
Honestly not at all

I’m good on Mackey by the way. Send him back to Hartford, don’t need to see him ever again.

Shoutout to Drury the schmuck not putting in a claim for Dremott, who’s at least shown he can play at this level.

The Rangers spent two minutes looking for the perfect shot. Berard and Cuylle got them back in the game. They were benched for the 6 on 5. Zibanejad had barely played in the 3rd and Laviolette reunited all of the slackers to pass the puck around on the perimeter. Even Sam and Joe questioned those moves.
As I have said, the org is giving the malcontents the noose for themselves. You need to remember that this is a business and the real economic drivers of the business are not the majority of the fans on a message board. It's the corporate partners and if nyr blows up the core that the corporate partners bought into and sponsored than nyr better be able to justify why. They just had a 6 month pr ordeal with their team captain that was doing commercials for one of their biggest sponsors and then they ran his ass out of town. The dismantling of a core and team that the organization sold to corporate sponsors needs to be done strategically and done in a manner that the org looks like it had no other choice.

What i noticed were at the least 5 guys who didn't deserve their spots over him. Same on d, Mancini deserves a spot over Ruhwedal and Mackey. I'd say the 3rd line looks better with Kakko instead of Zibanejad, or the 4th with him over Kreider.

Yes but can he play at this level, on this team, under this structure....very few can right now

So is that "we need KK" or just "our depth is crap" and/or "lots of players deserve to be scratched right now'.

It's that Kakko was one of a few players that was actually trying and worth his salary. People are too caught up in his draft position, if he was drafted in the 4th round people would be totally happy with him. We get value out of him for his cap hit, something kinda rare lately with this team.

Fellas.. this was the best outcome we could hope for.

I said to fade the Rangers before the game even before I knew Panarin was out. They were never winning this game.

They need to punt this season. Trade Kreider, do what you can with Zibanejad, and garner a top 10 pick in the draft. Retool on the fly and be ready to go next year. Fire Lavi at the end of the year and bring in a new voice (Quenneville?) and weaponize the cap space to pick up what you can via FA. Give this year to Lafreniere, Chytil, Cuylle, Berard and Mancini to improve and reattack the Cup chase next year

I think they need to so something yesterday, each game that passes Kreider and Zibanejad look worse, same with Lindgren. If there was any hope of trading them a month ago it's less now and will probably be less in a month

If they lose Tuesday it's time for the Letter 2.0 (because Hollywood loves reboots and all) because it's the only winnable game the rest of the year.

Time for Kakko and the Rangers to divorce. He's going to be some team's Barbashev or Lekhonnen and win a Cup as a role player with nice fancy stats.

"The Rangers and James Dolan shouldn't be playing the blues, they should be giving the blues"-George Carlin (sort of).

His suckage wouldn't have stood out with how bad the rest of the lineup played. No one could handle a pass or cared to drive the net, kakko would have fit right in. Further, with the trade and benchings you would expect a pulse from the leadership. It's documented that after this summer trouba was checked out with what the org tried to do and the message that this was his last year. I think people forget that trouba often dragged this core's corpse into the battle in past years and I don't think it's coincidence that once trouba was checked out the rest followed suit. I know some on this board tried to accuse me of not know what has happening this summer as I told the board with Jake and Kurt were doing, but everything since has also played out as I suggested. If people want to continue defending some of the malcontents in that locker room then carry on but don't complain. You make excuses for people that need accountability injected into their profession. Part of the issue with some of the players is not simply about their ntc or nmc, there are a lot of other day to day perks written into certain contracts. Their is some legitimate contractual entitlement beyond what people here think they know. At some point nyr needs to stop trying to be nice or acting like players don't want to be here. NYC is not for everything (Jesper fast did not resign here bc he did not want to be in NYC anymore), but a lot of players want to live in the NYC area and nyr needs to leverage that instead of writing contracts and entitlements like they are trying to draw players to Winnipeg.

The latter. Kakko is an absolute nothing burger. I said in the game thread, he is the overcooked, unsalted, unseasoned, boneless, skinless chicken breast of NHL players. Absolutely bland and flavorless. He is simply there. I’ve said it before as well, but if you took all of the numbers off the jerseys, there’s very few times that you can distinguish Kakko from Smith or Vesey or Brodz. Often when Laf is playing like he has recently, the same is true of him. On a deep team with a good system, he’s a nice third liner. That’s all. Somewhere between an Armia and a Lehkonen without the benefit of Mackinnon.

He is officially in bust status, there's no doubt about that.

He'll still be a decent third liner, but he's a bust 100%

Admittedly on this one I don't know anything, but I look at kakko and wonder if the avs wouldn't be a great place for him. He trains with rantanen, there is Finnish support there, they have starts to carry the mail and that also demand the rest of the team follows suit, and he would have no choice but to engage and do better otherwise Nate dog would break him. He also feels like nichushkin insurance for them.

He was one of the only players actually trying to play conscientious hockey for most of the season. His play dropped off the last few games, even if he had "more pucks on net" and "more hits" than normal... But he's clearly held to a different standard than other players on the team.

For his sake I hope he is traded to a place that suits his style sooner rather than later. The Rangers are far too toxic.

I'm not worried about their value being low. It'll peak at the deadline with contending teams biting off on the hope that they were just in a bad situation (they are) and that they're still the players they once were. We can also retain on Kreider if need be.

Zibanejad I have no idea what we're going to do with. People think his problem is mental.. I think it's way more physical. He looks like he hasn't touched a weight since 2021. His explosiveness is completely gone.

The facts are, this core got old, had kids, and isn't as hungry as they once were. Family 100% has an effect on performance no matter how much money you make, and that is true for all industries.

Avs, Panthers, even the Blues' style would fit him much better, just for starters.

I don't see them as great trade partners, but could a deal worked out around Kakko for Ivan^2?

Tonight

For what? I want them to keep losing. He's doing a perfectly good job at ensuring that with his bogus personnel decisions and keeping the lines in a blender 100% of the time.

I want his ass parked behind that bench until the buzzer sounds on game 82 of the season. Then you fire his ass
