Post-Game Talk: I’m naming your first born Leon

Just because hes on the ice and in the frame when a goal is scored, doesnt mean its always his fault.

Just like the breakaway a few games ago the Oilers gave up, a bunch of clowns on here blamed that goal on him when he correctly kept gap control on the other forward meanwhile ekholm and the forward were taking a nap not covering anything.
I saw that and you’re right, but there are just as many instances of his lazy subpar play. He’s vastly overrated.

Nurse had a great game last night.

Reading here, you would think the opposite.

Never change HFOil.

Damn predictive spelling on mobile
Overall, Nurse did have a great game; he played physical and made that key poke check to create the sequence that yielded the tying goal. Haven't liked his reads in OT lately. I'd prefer Walman get a chance in the rotation after Bouchard.

Nurse gets a beating, for trying to live up to that contract (mainly from himself). Phycologically hard to excell when your overpaid. Too many negative overtones to excell and keep your head up.

BTW - Nurse played dumb in OT, he just gave the puck to the opposition. That overpaid punk ! Lol

Speaking of Leon, this was an interesting video of Podkolzin giving a tour of the Edmonton Oilers facilities. He mentioned that Draisaitl takes him out to eat and they talk about hockey. He also thinks that Draisaitl requested for him to be on his line.

Drai is nicer than me. Heh. Podz is fine in a working role on that line but there has to be somebody else cashing. For the most part Arvid has failed miserably at that.

Podkolzin is a nice kid that really respects being on the team, and being with Leon and the guy can make some plays. its just how snakebit he is and I don't know scoring much happens with him.

I even remember Drai being the one working out on the ice to try to get Pulju shot mechanics down. Couldn't do that but he sure tried with him. Consummate team mate Draisaitl is and players that have Dad coaches tend to be.

3 on 3 is largely chaos. Nurse made one mistake in the OT and of a nature he typically doesn't. In anycase all of Nurse, Booch, Ekholm have been studs on the team and in extra time. Walman with his skillset seems like somebody that could do well in OT but I don't yet trust him yet in that, and KK probably wants him to have more time with club before he gets that.

But mistakes, the slightest, are monumental in 3 on 3 and its not a place to evaluate. Also sometimes the opponent just makes good plays. But the Oilers are 12-5 in extra time, one of the most successful records in extra time, so not an area of any concern. Regulation time is the concern.

Holy shit. If anyone hasn’t watched, I highly encourage. This org is sparing no expense for their prized assets. Pod even said he didn’t have anything to this extent in Van. Beyond impressive.

I like Podkolzin with Draisaitl cause he clears him space and is a workhorse and while he doesn’t put up points, Drai is killing it with him.
If only they had a winger that could do something with them.

Seems to be a theme with Draisaitl going out of the way for newer and younger guys. I wonder how much the other members of the leadership core do this stuff.

At least pods makes the occasional good pass and occasionally cycles the puck. I should mention how often ARvid doesn't do that and just takes shots from anywhere. I mean he's playing with Leon, the top goal scorer in the world, and he's taking the shots. An inordinate amount of them sometimes, and I'm sure Drai tells him to. I'm noticing some slight improvement in Arvid shooting. hitting the net more now and missing less. Still falling all over the ice though.

But like I said somebody other than Drai needs to be finishing on that line. Playoff opponents can just double up on Drai all day if the others are not dangerous. its been Drais' fortune this season again that our D IS dangerous. So many of the scoring plays Drai has been involved in EV on his own line, its been mostly the D involved.

I think Skinner has looked pretty good considering the shaft he continues to get from knobless. He actually earning his contract unlike that plug Arvidsson

He's one of the best players on the team. His stats are misleading given how badly Knob has f***ed him over with limited ice time, awful linemates, and healthy scratches after finding his scoring touch...

He doesn't even seem happy that we won. Just upset that we're praising Pickard for an objectively strong performance. I don't even think this guy likes the team, he's literally just a fan of Stu and Stu alone. Weird stuff...

In defense of @CROTT , he's definitely an Oilers fan. He's been around online Oilers fandom for a fairly long time, although took a fairly long hiatus as far as I can tell, if I were to pinpoint it it would probably be somewhere just before the McDavid draft, maybe a few years earlier.

He was around for '06 and most of the decade of darkness. I'll vouch for him on that. He's also a fairly intelligent fellow, outside of the Skinner conversation. I remember quite enjoying his commentary and thoughts over the years.

Be easy on him, he's a good dude.

So when Pickard kicks a rebound out to the slot it’s the players fault that it resulted in a goal. When Skinner does it it’s all his fault, this boards not biased at all lol.
Pickard is a reliable AHL goalie. He does not frustrate as much as Skinner, who is up and down so much. Pichard does not have NHL skill at all. I like him thou, for the AHL.

Did you see Olivier play ? He's got a lot to prove, but he's fast...

I don't know why there is such negativity towards Jake Walman. I mean he has 5-6 points in the 11 games he has played. He has barely any PP time and its not like McDavid and Leon have been in every game with him. He was brought in to be a top 4 Dman and that's what he's doing.

What were you disappointed fans expecting?

They were expecting absolutely perfect eye-test results with regards to own zone play.

A lot of fans just assume a D man is useless unless the player has a reputation for being big, rugged, and crease-clearing. They would prefer a D man that does all that vs one that keeps the play moving the other way.

Expectations are that they will get a unicorn 2-way beast in Ekholm every time. It's unrealistic.

Depends on price. To me the Flames were just good enough in coverage to show a glimpse of what Skinner looks like with tight checking. Really until the 3 on 3, and specifically the scoring shift with Drai he got nothing done, and the Nuge line got nothing done all game. He ends up on the statline with an assist on winning goal but basically because its 3 on 3, and its not 5 on 5. He's not here for the hits. Its nice if he's willing to play a role but his primary role is scoring goals. I can't recall last night him even getting a good shot off. I can recall Nuge missing and Hyman doing all his jam plays.

Further to that, Hyman is now looking like what one would have expected. A jam guy that goes around net looking for any nuts there but this year having more trouble finding them. Still good player but we're clearly only going to see declined scoring from him. Even though it was recent its hard to see how he got to 54 goals last year. Pretty amazing result that won't ever be revisited by him.
I would be happy if he could continue at a 30+ goal pace going forward for the next few years.

He isn't on a 30 goal pace. you think he gets back to there? I don't. Hyman has much more involvement in games and he can't get to the same totals he put up. Age factoring in a bit as well as the challenges of playing on a team getting some tight checking. We'll see what happens. I think Skinners performance in playoffs will say a lot about future retention.

Its kind of uncanny. But also such a product of where the whole division is at. For several years now basically its been a few teams even capable of making playoffs other than the Nucks Outlier year.

Looks like we have to see Will Feral again. ;)
Could have just skipped the regular season and gone directly to Oilers vs. Kings 4.0

so f***ing stupid, we that we need other fans vouching for others now to "protect" them from toxic ass fans and the hive mind?

Skinner had zero do with this game, he was injured and didn't play and other posters are bringing him up to criticize other posters and their points. They strut around here calling everyone delusional and or relatives of skinner if every post doesn't have a sentence putting skinner down. Jesus christ man. This is why people leave this site or take extended breaks. You guys ( not you specifically icanada, in general) are toxic and divisive.

He has 27 goals in 67 games played. That's 33 goals over 82 games. Just needs three to get to 30, we will see if he can get there.
