That’s an easy answer: yes

They could waive him and no damage be done. I’d take anyone with his skill set for the league minimum. The vote results are mostly emotional votes

This is mostly right. BUT.. you forgot the part about the NMC.

For is sake I hope he get away from MTL and get is happy ending but at the same time I would prefer if he was able to do it in MTL. I’m sure that is you look at what flames fan taugh of Monahan playing like shit/injuried for 2.5 years got were pretty happy to get rid of him and adding Kadri…
At league minimum I would take Drouin no questions ask I even give him more than 1 years if he wants people complaining too much because of is draft expectation and $ if he sign for less than 2M$ I don’t see any issues.

Yeah he’d put them in cap hell. If he sucks again just waive him. It’s not even a risk
He has his chance this season to try to earn a decent contract. And so far - nothing. There is no point wasting more time on him.

I would bet 100 million dollars Emil Heineman shows me more in his first NHL game than anything Drouin did this year (..or any..?)
Can he even come here next season?
(I must admit I totally, but totally forgot about him)

Who cares? Sign some FA to a 1 year deal to fill in.
...Which will be more expensive than Drouin, and possibly NOT want 1 year.

I don't think it's useful for him because he should get a change of scenery.

That said, if I were some random GM and a guy like Drouin offered to join my team for league minimum I would 1000% agree and sign same day.

Let's not forget there are teams who can use stopgaps and reclamation projects under the cap structure. Teams like the Oilers would've begged for a Drouin like project years ago because they had no one on the wing to play with their centers.

We have to put the fact he hasn't succeeded with us aside. He has talent and from how he is off the ice he doesn't appear to be a locker room problem. He actually seems like a nice person who gives back to the community. A team looking for a project like that can do a LOT worse than Drouin.
I just don't know.. how any of the 31 GM's
Look at Drouin play, and go "that's it, that's THE guy my team is missing, it's so clear to me now how did I not see it before?"
I'll be AMAAAAZED if Drouin is in the NHL next year, shocked

A thought came to my mind, if Drouin's agent said to the Habs that Drouin is desperate to make it work and pay back the faith the Habs and Habs fans placed in him -- it would be a PR and goodwill coup for both Drouin and the Habs (and possibly give Drouin another shot to extend his NHL career) -- would the Habs accept? Should the Habs accept?

Why or why not?

For your information he has 0 goals, 5 assists in 18 games this season (on pace for 23pts in an 82 game season). He had 20pts in 34gp last season. In his best seasons as a Hab he had 46 and 53 points.
What a joke of a question. Seriously.

You're just baiting all the insults against Drouin to follow. To imagine anything less is tantamount to not reading this site at all.

I don't have anything against Drouin. He seems like a nice fellow whose presumed attitude problems are little more than a crock of shit. If anything, he seems to have put way too much pressure on himself and lives for hockey.

That doesn't change the fact that he can't shoot a puck anymore and that he's completely toast as an NHL player. There's no reason for us to have him on the roster.

I’m not and I’ve defended Drouin before. I realize I’m not a known commentator here but I wouldn’t expect such bad faith readings into this question.

At league min and not even 30years old he is a reclamation project - maybe…

Looks like we are going to find out why tonight! Drouin’s trade partner is a 24 year old who is currently a PPG D, with 2 Stanley Cups, that has risen to every task.

At some point, with all the prospects we will need room under the 50 contracts. Also, Drouin will find a place somewhere he doesn't need to be the player he was expected to be in Montreal.

I wish Drouin the best, but he brings nothing of value to the team. If he's ever going to be a decent NHL'er player again, it won't be in Montreal. I do hope that someone signs him in the off-season and he plays well, but I don't need to see him continue his redemption tour in Montreal. It isn't working.
