Hypothetical - does McDavid win the Conn Smythe even if Oilers lose the cup? Assuming he has an above average finals

I don't think you can really give it to anyone on the Panthers right now. Win or Lose McDavid is the MVP of these playoffs.

I think who wins the Conn Smythe really depends on how this series ends. Does it go to 7 where McDavid continues to produce well? I think it's his. Does it end in game 6 with a Bob shutout and an easy Panthers win? I think Bob gets it. I don't think 2 shitty games for Bobrovsky in games 4 and 5 will matter if he ends up putting up a good game in game 6.

If it goes to 7, I'd have a hard time arguing against McDavid though, even if the Oilers lose game 7. Coming back from down 3-0 while putting up 6 points in 2 games so far can't be understated, especially with how pedestrian Draisaitl has looked.

I think they give it to him, he has double the points of Barkov and his hit a number not seen in decades.

If Bobrovsky continued to kill the Oilers it would have been a different story but he has faltered the last two games

He could go pointless in a 4-3 series loss and still have a above average finals. 10 points in 7 games is most players best series.

Give him the Conn Smythe now. Best playoff run since Mario.

the two Russians winning it would be a crime after this display and playoff by McDavid.

Does it really matter McDavid added more to his Conn Smythe case than either Panther player tonight.

I just have a hard time justifying it when you lose in 5.

But now that the game is over, I’m on board. Insane performance tonight.

Only once in NHL history has a team on the losing side had a skater win the Conn Smythe? Otherwise it’s just been a handful of goalies?

That alone suggests it’s very unlikely.

However, he’s only 9 points away from being only the 3rd player in NHL history to break 40 points in a playoff run and only 6 assists away from breaking the single playoff assist record held by Gretzky.

If he managed both of those accomplishments in a losing effort you could probably make an argument for him. But that would assume that the Panthers didn’t have a standout performer in the finals
Give this man the Conn Smythe win or lose.

There's a very good chance that McDavid ends up outscoring both Barkov and Tkachuk combined for these playoffs. And it's not even like the two aforementioned Panthers forwards are playing poorly or not producing - their stat lines are very respectable. But it just highlights the absurdity of what McDavid is doing right now.
