Hello all,

Quiet time before tomorrow's game. Some people are into hockey pools, I guess into hockey polls.

With Hutson's outstanding start of his career. What do you expect to be done for his next contract? He is eligible to sign an extension this summer.

So far it seems like management's MO to get a jump start and sign their guys a year ahead of their deal expiring (Slafkovsky and Guhle).

Will they wait till next year?
Will they go the full 8 years?

Sign him for the cheapest 8 year contract you can. Do it now. He's only going to get more expensive.

With the cap going up and the large uncertainty of how much it'll keep going up. I think HuGo will try to get a deal done ASAP. I think Hutson won't want to sign for the 8 years. HuGo have also been staggering their contracts so they don't all end at the same time. I think 6 years between 7-7.5M is whats most fair for both parties and will be a bargain if Hutson agrees to it.

I think he'll be 7-7.5 as well. Just sign him and be done with it.

I think that might be overly optimistic from the teams side.

If he finishes the season at the current pace of about 60pts, while still improving his defense every game - he’s immediately more impactful than Suzuki.

Nick cracked 60pts in his D+5 and Hutson has a chance to do it in his D+3 , as a defenseman.

When Hughes and Makar signed their extensions it was for 9.63 and 11% of the cap respectively, that puts Hutson somewhere around 8.25-9.4m.

Obviously the goal would be to keep him as low as possible, but hard to argue against him getting 9% of the cap right now. That would put him a hair over 8m by the time the cap rises.

You cannot simply forgo the indispensable, character-building bridge deal! We cannot allow him to get a swelled head.

But, yes, eight years, whatever it takes, even going above Suzuki in both dollar amount and cap%; Hutson will be our best player by that point, anyways.

He doesn't have full leverage though. RFA... And he'd only be going into his 2nd season. I think there's a greater chance of him signing for less than 7 rather than 8+.

End of the day, I expect 7-7.5 but would be thrilled with anything less.

Hard to imagine his agent taking less than Slafkovsky signed for when Hutson is much more impactful and outscoring Slaf as a rookie.

True evaluations on players is not always based on points only. Hutson is getting some serious ice time and opportunity at the age of 20 (soon to be 21) when Slaf played his first two seasons at age 18 and 19.

If Hutson gets the 8 year deal, it will be between Guhle and Slaf. Somewhere in the middle of that. 8x $7M seems about right.

Wow you guys are NUTS lol
He ain't getting 7-8 mill right away..

I smell a 3 to 6 year deal
If it's 8 years, I'd expect it to be 7 mil. If it's shorter, then obviously it will be for less.

Personally? I'd try to lock him up for as long as I could.

Depends on a lot of factors. I think we are in for trouble if we go 3-6 years. Especially if we do bridge. Remember, there is a looming cap increase and once the cap is $95M+ and Hutson is closer to his prime, you will have a massive headache to sign him. It's enough we will have to do that with Demidov.

This is about timing. If you wait it out, You will end up paying more like the Leafs had to do with Marner back when. Hutson is going to continue to get more offensive usage at the same time when our offensive skill will improve (maturity from Slaf and Demidov for example). It's a trap bud. Get him signed to the 8 year deal now and you will end up with a Bruins/Lightning core with most of your assets locked up.

Bridges should be applied to the middle parts of your core. Not the top part

I'd rather take the risk of signing what might be a small overpay than bridging him to teach him rispek and then have to sign a bad deal preventing us to build a solid team later.

People have to realize is that 7ish millions in 4-5 years will probably be how top of the league 2nd liners and 2nd pairing guys will be paid. Hockey is growing in the USA and with Arizona gone cap will rise.

If he's willing to extend 8 years just a tad under Suzuki we do it absolutely.

Gotta teach those kids rispek! In retrospective the whole story with Subban's bridge was so cringe specially the media. Probably one of the most mishandled contract signing in the team's history imo. It made really no sense to bridge him.

The threads that summer were epic. My God that was such a bad move. And the media were so bad too... Subban was getting compared to Michael Del Zotto.
