Wow, Murdaugh guilty! Jury only deliberated for around 3 hours!

Yeah holy crap. I guess they were like "we've heard enough about this scumbag, burn him down!".

Homie was on 2000mg of Oxy a day (What?? WOW!) and ripped off crippled teenage accident victims. Plus seemed like he ran the town like the bad guy in "Roadhouse". Should have seen it coming.

But although I guess it's probable that he did it- a circumstantial case with no guns, no DNA, no eyewitness, and built around a motive of "His life was crashing in around him so he thought he'd make everything better by blasting his wife and son with two different weapons" was kind of eyebrow raising for me.

I hear ya on the potential areas of doubt. But some of the circumstantial evidence seemed pretty damning. I'm guessing the fact that he lied about being at the kennels so close to the time of death for as long as he did, but then had to admit that he was really there when the video showed up, proved to be the coup de grace.

The motive seemed really weak to me, as well, and I'm surprised the prosecution pressed it as strongly as they did since you technically don't need a motive in a murder trial. Seems to me they'd have been better off throwing it out as a possibility, but also stressing that an admitted heavy duty oxy addict could have had any number of other factors that led to the shooting that you would have no way of ever knowing short of a confession. E.g., maybe the victims were trying to intervene in his drug use, etc.

What surprised me the most wasn't the verdict(s), but how quickly they arrived at them.

Spotted while going to dinner in Kissimmee Florida this evening. Grey-ish Audi? SUV w/Florida tags sporting a Carolina Hurricanes double warning flag sticker and a Georgia Bulldog 'G' sticker. Is this one of us? Do we have any Georgia alum/fans here?

The sucky part of getting old. My best friend just informed me he has an aggressive prostate cancer. Thankfully, so far, it appears that it hasn't spread to other parts of his body, but it's big enough and aggressive enough that surgery will be tricky, so they have to try and shrink it first before attempting surgery. Between everything going on in his life (retiring, moving a couple of times, building a new home, etc...) he hasn't had a regular check-up in a while so he's not sure how long it's been going on.

We've talked about it before but, especially as you get older, don't put off regular check-ups and don't ignore signs your body might be giving you.

Trying to keep pace with Fox News?

Perhaps.

I did always have a few suspicions about OKC. What ever happened to John Doe#2? Looked kinda like Jose Padilla...

In Iraq I found some evidence there was a nexus between Al-Qaeda and white supremacists potentially.

Maybe it is as simple as the ATF didn't want to admit they had stored a bunch of confiscated explosives in there, and the secondaries helped collapse the building, IDK.

And just a couple hours later- story gone from website- and they run this one. Its like a deliberate attempt to create cognitive dissonance: Opinion: The toxic brew poisoning American society | CNN

Just read that there's text message evidence that Murdaugh's son and wife both confronted him about his oxy use a month before the murders. And his sister in law thought it was weird when she asked him about who might have done it and he said he didn't know but ‘whoever did have thought about it for a really long time’. Hmm, like maybe a month?

I'd wager that was the real motive for the murders, not to direct attention away from his theft. But the prosecution put forth the "theft distraction" motive in order to be allowed to bring the theft evidence into the trial, otherwise it wouldn't have been allowed.

My wife’s oldest brother unexpectedly passed away this morning. His wife was out of town and when he didn’t respond to her texts, she checked her security system’s cameras and saw him lying on their porch. He appears to have had a cardiac event and died before he hit the ground. He was only 60.
