Dunno how I feel about punishing Kampf by sitting him for a turnover. There's been lots of blame to go around throughout the season for egregious turnovers including the top guys.

I just don't see how this results in accountability by singling out a guy in the bottom of the lineup. All I see is a double standard.

Kampf's only redeeming quality is he is good defensively... if he isn't doing that well, then what's the point of having him in the lineup?

Also, was it because of a turnover, or was he just not playing the system well? Did Keefe say?

Holmberg should have been Kampf's replacement anyway, so let's see how he does.

Would be terrible if another signing doesn't work out, so hopefully Kampf comes back rejuvenated.

Wanna send a real message? Bench Marner, Tavares, and Nylander. Start there. These guys are incapable of playing simple and smart hockey consistently. I have zero problems trading all three of these guys and building the future core around Matthews and Reilly. This team is shit.

Yes, and on this team, that isn't something that should be overlooked, irrespective of being overpaid by a bit.

Homberg hasn't really shown that he's capable of Kampf role of very high DZ usage + pk. Perhaps he can, but this scapegoating by Keefe is rather petty TBH.

Single mistakes seem crazy to punish, but it might be adding onto already bad play, not entirely sure.

Regardless, it's easier to bench someone like Kampf than someone like Marner or Nylander for turnovers, unless you don't care about winning.

Hopefully, Holmberg gets a decent chunk of time, I think he is better than Kampf.

Also, anyone complaining that this is only happening now... how many times have we had this much flexibility with the roster? We have a full roster, not sure this has happened before.

A couple of three things I want to get off my chest. I hate the Canes. I can't stand them. I hate their coach, I hate their fans, I hate their uniforms, I hate their stupid post-game celebrations, and I especially detest that they are still celebrating David Ayres. Leafs should have gone to the finals in 02.

Also, I wish we kept Bunting instead of signing Bertuzzi. The robots that populate this team's fandom hate anybody who shows passion, fight, or grit. Imagine where this team would be if the management knew how to evaluate talent. Anybody that had a pulse (besides Reilly) has been shipped out. MLSE is more concerned with a nice clean-cut corporate image to sell jerseys to kids rather than winning.

I find myself watching less and less this season. Watching these guys is the definition of insanity. I do want to give a credit where credit is due - Gregor, Benoit, Lagesson, Knies, and Robertson have shown they belong. Hopefully they can continue to grow and evolve.

Bunting antics were getting tiresome. He constantly butted head with Keefe

He was a sevicable player, did his time and moved on. I am happy for him

He did nothing during the playoffs except for taking a silly elbowing penalty

Keefe doesn't have the stones to hold anyone in the clique accountable, only the fringe players that 34 or 16 don't really hang with.

Shocking, people (not saying you) are framing it way differently than what he said.

Was it due to Kampf’s giveaway before the game-tying goal by Adam Fantilli in Columbus?

Keefe: That was one of them. That and the line change, yeah.

The other side of it: We have a young guy in Holmberg who has played well for us and hasn’t played for a while. He will get an opportunity tonight.

There needs to be some accountability. David Kampf is going to be a scratch tonight. In my opinion, he just didn’t do a good enough job in some of those moments I am talking about as a guy that we really rely on in those positions, especially when we are playing with leads.

He is a really important player for us and will be important for us. He has been good here in the last little while, but there have been too many of those types of things. A guy like him — who we have come to really trust and rely upon — needs to be able to come through and lead the way for us in that department.

It is obviously not just him. It is the guys that we really rely on to be good in those areas, whether you are the top guys who produce a lot of offense — we need those guys to be good in these areas as well, of course — but for someone like Kampfer, in particular, that is his job. That is his primary job and focus when he is on the ice. When he strays from that, he opens up opportunities for others to take his minutes.

Doesn't seem like an attack on Kampf or like this was over one play...

Our fanbase makes up way too much.

Sounds a lot like Kampf. But let's not pretend that Holmberg has been that good since camp. This team is jockeying for divisional positioning and tinkering with a part of their team that isn't a strength, to begin with, and not in the most constructive way, IMO.

But if it makes the signing look worse and the prior GM looks better, who gives a $h!t, right?

Holmberg hasn't shown anything to say he can replace Kampf. Not speaking to the benching, but this idea that Holmberg should have been in Kampf's place anyways just shows how brain dead some people are here. Holmberg is a hope right now, and if anything his stock has diminished since he came up last year and looked serviceable. He has a lot to prove.
