I wonder if Necas wanted out of Carolina and that Rantanen did not get what he wanted. Necas seems happy in Colorado.

Then I wonder what's with those rumours. I have hard time to believe Carolina didn't know about his contract before trading for him. Wondering if Rantanen just doesn't want to play there. (Speculation)

From the article, it doesn't appear to be a money issue. Carolina is apparently meeting his ask of $14 million a year. He just sounds not interested in signing there.

Makes you wonder where he wanting to sign if it’s not with either team. Maybe because he’s won before he’s not all that interested in signing on a winning team.

San Jose and Anaheim maybe if he’s wanting some Cali weather to mail in his career

He seemed very upset and taken back by the trade and even came out after saying he'd have signed a discount. I think his heart is still with Colorado and I think there's a good chance he's back there for July 1st.

Without an agreed on extension every team should look at him as purely a rental. Don't pull a Carolina and trade or him and find out he has no interest in signing after and/or later.

If he's purely only shopped for his rental trade value I'd question why Carolina wouldn't just use him as their own rental.

Thank God dorion isn't in ottawa anymore, otherwise they'd be the ones to do it🤣

If I'm a team like Tampa, Toronto, Vegas, Florida, Edmonton etc. and Carolina wants to move him which I think is a bad idea considering what they gave up.

But if they did want to move him and I'm one of the teams I mentioned I'm all over it, especially if Carolina retains 50%.

Even as arental, if you put him with Matthews, Marner, Nylander and Tavares

Or Kuch, Point and Guentzel.

Or Eichel and Stone

Or Barkov and Reinhart and Tkachuk

Or Mcdavid and Drisatil

Put him on any of those teams and that can win them a cup he can have that type of impact

Sure, he’d be great. But what’s the cost to acquire?

Is Carolina really that much colder? Honestly asking

I guess what blows my mind, is why didn’t they ask him? Why was rantanen blind sided? It’s not like he could have blocked it. Why not.

Listen there is 0% chance we are taking this number. Here is our offer. If you don’t want it, we are trading you.

Then if he says no…. Ask him if he wants to negotiate with a team.

I get if avs saw a package they liked. But wouldn’t they at least give him an ultimatum?

And wouldn’t Carolina want him to sign ?before giving up necas?

Whole thing makes no sense.

I mean...sure...they probably would want to trade him if he is explicitly saying I don't want to be here.

Then again, he's played 6 games with his new team, half the team has been sick, he missed a game and the 4 Nations break happened shortly after the trade.

Maybe, just maybe...give the dude a bit of time to settle? "He's played 6 games and he hasn't signed yet what is wrong!!!!!"

I fail to see how this is even news at this point. There are some many "this isn't a report", "I am not saying", "of course we have to see what happens", "some around the league are saying" stupid jargon qualifiers here to make pure speculation seem like something noteworthy. He even says, "this is a lot of speculative talk".

I heard that if Rantanen doesn't eventually settle and tells Carolina he won't sign that they may want to trade him!

No shit, sherlock.

What here has actually come from Rantanen, Rantanen's agent, Carolina's FO or anybody?

It’s my opinion and that’s all it is, but I would highly doubt it would be anything location related. The Carolinas is one of the premier places weather wise to be in the entire country.

I guess it is solely up to him and he may have his heart set on a destination, but if all things equal, there is a hell of a lot of other places worse to be in the NHL.

Looks like he didn't want to be traded....he's now in Carolina, being pressured to potentially sign this huge contract for a place he doesn't know.....how can you blame him?

He's going UFA

Put yourself in his shoes....the money will be there and he can choose his destination
I agree with you. When with the Avs his heart and knowing the area were part of signing. At this point he should test the market and see who offers what. It’s not often for a player to be able to choose his place.
