You know, I've been paying so much attention to the divisional race that I've lost track of the overall league race...

We are closer to overtaking the President's Trophy race (1 point back) than we are of losing control of the Central (2 points ahead)

I just assumed it was going to one of the teams in the West. Just casually following on Twitter, it seemed like Vegas, the Avs and the Wild couldn't stop winning.

agreed.

Now, granted Vegas has 1 game in hand on us and Colorado has 2 in hand on us while 3 points back in the standings.

But yeah, it looks like that race is going to come down to the 3 of Vegas, Carolina, and Colorado

I've heard this quoted a lot. Where did "Hubris without hardware" come from? I absolutely love it. There is something deliciously braggadocious (hf boards thinks that isn't a word) about not having won anything of note.

I believe a Leafs fan on the main boards coined the term. He was critical of Canes fan positivity because as he put it "they haven't won anything yet". Imagine that, from a Leafs fan, lol!

edit: I stand corrected. Thanks!

was it a Leafs fan? I know it was after the first Tampa game last week, I just figured it was a Bolts guy.

Either way, he got the mocking that such a statement deserved.

I am glad we made the playoffs again but it seems weird not to struggle to do it. We have been "in" for like a month or two. I suppose this is what it's like to support a well run organization. Dundon over there looking at other owners like "Playoffs? Super easy, barely an inconvenience."

We need to take care of our business (stay ahead of COL) and then hope for COL to take a couple from Vegas tomorrow and May 10th.

I'm of the opinion that the Canes should win the Division and then focus on getting the team optimally positioned for the playoffs. I'd love to see them win the Presidents' Trophy, but I wouldn't chase it at the cost of potentially compromising the playoffs in the least.

I mean, there's a very realistic possibility that in order to win the division, we will need to win the President's Trophy. So why not just try to collect as many wins as we can from here on out

Plus, it sounds like there might be a delay between the end of the season and the playoffs starting to allow the Canadian division to finish up. Gives us time to rest if we do go balls out.

I'm not saying coast, but I wouldn't, say, bring a dinged up player back as soon as possible (like we'd probably do if we were fighting for the last playoff spot). Of course whoever is on the ice is going to try to win them all, I think the details lie in player management decisions.

I agree, but I also would like to see our guys play a couple games before the playoffs just to get the cobwebs out before the pressure really ramps up. Would prefer someone like Turbo to not have to get thrown into 1st or 2nd line duties in the playoffs as his first taste of hockey since like February

I looked it up in the dictionary and found this:

Toronto Maple Leafs' fans - a large, boisterous group that are noted for "hubris without hardware". 54 years of frustration and underwhelming results.:sarcasm:
