Any clue why he suddenly decided to completely change philosophy on team building from speed, skill and quickly advancing the puck?
Most of JR's acquisitions of late have been the antithesis to that team building philosophy.
Not a clue. That's a question that will haunt us for the rest of our lives.
EDIT: One thing I can say . . . the toughness kick was a direct result of the beating Sid and Geno took in the cup years (and Geno having to be de facto team tough guy). They both were tired of it, from my understanding of things. BUT, that doesn't explain the shift away from a defense with multiple defensemen who could reliably move the puck quickly and accurately and on players in general who, if they weren't fast, at least played fast.
