We are still due for the strongest winds in the next few hours. Power is out, as expected

Who the hell thought leaving that crane up there was a great idea?!?! They should be forced to pay to fix all the damage it cased an not FEMA. Gross negligence. Thank god no one was killed.

A tower crane that large takes a good 5 days to remove, including bringing in a second crane to assist. Getting the second crane was probably the issue.

So overall is the general consensus not as bad as Ian?
Depends on where you are in the state. Sarasota/Bradenton look real bad from what I've seen so far. I would also imagine the barrier islands are obliterated. The tornadoes will likely be a large part of the post Milton conversation. You rarely see a wedge, long track tornado in a hurricane. These things look like the ones that form here in OK and the plains.

It's all but impossible to do given the timeline. You're looking at a week or so just to take it down, and you need to bring in another crane of equal size to help dismantle it.

Helene closed the main TB restaurant for 6 weeks I can imagine thats doubled now if not closed indefinitely.

Which must be why they are rushing the marlin bar opening

Science continues to amaze. Well done National Hurricane Center and recon crews who risked everything to fly into the storm to get the data needed to make these forecasts.

I laugh every time someone bitches that “the weather people are always wrong”. It’s literally predicting the future. The perception that 8 inches of total snowfall instead of the 12 forecasted is “wrong” is nuts.

Great job with this hurricane and many others. Saves countless lives.

Good info.

I will say that I do hope the company is insured against risks like this. The idea that you are doing this kind of work during the heart of hurricane season and rely on the federal government to bail you out if there’s a direct hit doesn’t sit well with me.

Kind of sums up the Florida dilemma as a whole. We keep putting more and more stuff in the tracks of these storms and the public liability to fix what is unfortunately inevitable just keeps growing larger. Between this and the American southwest, it starts to look more and more unsustainable.

Watch an actual meteorologist and not someone who thinks they are on social media.

There is no Nadine. Doesn’t exist.
