Hrricanes Lounge XLVII: The return to obeying Rhules

I think the suspensions do far more to slow athletes from using. The HoF snub can only discourage guyw who think they have a shot.

With that being said the steroid era is called that because of how rampant the use of steroids was, so who did these guys really have an advantage over? I think it was a select few that weren't using so not many. The guys with potential HoF credentials were still much much better than the average guy that was also using. Would Bonds, McGuire and Sosa have a few less homers per year? Yes but they would also still lead the league if no one was using.

As far as an advantage over other generations of players the way I feel about it is basically this . Ty Cobb was a drunk who was basically only sober during games, Ruth's diet was hot dogs and beer, the era before them guys worked full time jobs and played after work. None of those generations had the advantage of weight training, strength and conditioning coaches, nutritionist, tailor made diets to help with recovery from not only work outs (which they also didn't have) to injuries. And what of the 60's-70's era where half the guys were tripping balls while playing?

I get the idea of exclusion if it was one or two guys that were using but the HoF is for the best of the best and guys like Clemons, Bonds, Mac, and Sosa are that roids or no!
Not to mention the owners knew about steroids, the players knew about steroids and the writers knew about steroids and only one writer (Rick Russo? maybe) ever brought it up until records started falling. Everybody made money off that era, so to go back and demonize what was implicitly encouraged is hypocritical, at best. It is just another era of baseball - live ball, dead ball, segregation, free agency, mound height etc. The hall is being the best during your era and these guys are the best of their era.

If you want to take out substances that allow players to be better without doing any work - take out pain relieving shots. Bonds, Sosa, McGuire and Brady Anderson all had to work hard in addition to taking steroids to be better - Curt Shilling only had to take a single needle....

Reactions: Unsustainable
Really hoping the temp tonight/tomorrow morning is a little warmer than expected.

I've got five blackberry, five blueberry, four fig, twelve raspberries, and one grape plant that are all very happy at the moment.

One of the blackberry bushes is already growing fruit, and the grape is flowering.

Going to do what I can to keep anything with fruit, flowers, or buds warm tonight

For those who may indulge this weekend with the annual tradition:

I had today off from work. Which, of course, means today is the day I’m dealing with the cold that has been going around work. Because while I don’t blame people who feel obligated to come to work sick (let’s face it, we all need a little extra money these days), I do blame them for not doing a better job of not spreading it. If you’re sick and you still cough/sneeze without covering your mouth (or hell, wear a mask again), you’re an asshole.

I used to get a cold every spring that would last at least 10 days. I found that if at the first nose tingling I irrigated using a neti pot (or saline nasal spray) the cold wouldn't even really set in, or if it did and I continued with the neti pot it would go away within a day or so. The difference was astounding. Everyone is going to react differently of course, but that might be worth a try if you haven't already done so.

edit: similar results with gargling with hot salt water at the first sign of a sore throat. But I've noticed that while both still cut down duration, it's not quite as dramatic as when I was younger. I'm guessing it's because of a generally weaker immune system now that I'm an old mo-fo. Again, ymmv.

Glad to see McIlroy win it in the playoff instead of Rose losing it. Especially after McIlroy almost gave it away on that short putt on 18; would have gone down in history as a choke.
It was an amazing power through win for Rory. Those greens are like putting on a hardwood floor.

Pope is dead.

TIME TO BLAME VANCE.
Why?

We don't get John Paul II's any more. We get 82 year old Jesuits who do nothing. We need another John Paull II, Or Innocent III. If you know you know.

Si vis pacem, para bellum.

Parce, Domine, parce populo tuo:
ne in aeternum irascaris nobis.

Perhaps the winds of change can shift us back to a pope instead of a jesuit politician and do nothing.

The concord awaits.

Because it’s funny. Not much else.

Mind you, my family has been atheist for three generations, outside of some odd cases of newfound faith.

My grandma’s grandma was ditching church in a 19th century village.

I mean I am the last person against a charismatic Polish pope. Because of ulterior motives…

I don't think a failed crusade that results in the sacking of Constantinople again would go over too well (though that last bit is more on the f***ing Doge of Venice at that time)
