I get sad every time I think of Sauer. He was rounding his game out and becoming a real stud. Plus he was just one of the nicest guys around. I hope he is doing well.

This, I hope he winds up lucking out and marrying a rich supermodel or something.

Just a thought here but if enough people nag our press guys like Zipay, Gross, Cerny maybe one of them can reach out to Mike. These guys have replayed to me multiple times on twitter other times maybe that will work.

Sauer has bad genes. His brother Kurt suffered whiplash which ended his career. Another Sauer brother played in the NFL and he also suffered a career ending injury. That's a common thing in the NFL. Michael Sauer battled the injury bug in junior and pro hockey. He suffered 1 concussion in junior. Sauer was invited to the US WJC camp and suffered a concussion. When the Rangers selected him,he was coming off hip surgeries on both hips. One surgery was to repair a birth defect and torn labrum in the other hip. He had shoulder surgery in the AHL. ACL surgery in the AHL. Before getting concussed,Sauer had not missed any games. I think he may have missed a game early in 10-11 because of a bruised ankle. The Rangers lost Sauer and Blackburn to career ending injuries. Cherepanov paid the ultimate price. The organization is cursed.

Cherneski and Kloucek too...hell Nilsson.

Sauer's unfortunately outcome gets me super bummed. He was budding so well and was turning to be one of my favorite players..

frankly, the burrows hit, to me, looked a lot worse. phaneuf only took three or four strides and hit sauer pretty straight-on. sauer hit his head on the ice. burrows took about six or seven strides and hit a player who was engaged-already from behind into the boards. it wasnt a head shot, but it was - as i think it was riverdale pointed out - with a total lack of respect for a fellow professional. aiming to make the sportscenter highlight reel at the expense of another player.
the worst thing about the sauer hit was phaneuf's drunk-kunt-papa basking in the laid-out sauer. whatta ********.

Sauer's head hit the dasher not the ice and it was the result of Sauer not wearing his chin strap tight. His helmet slid so that the back of his head is what made contact

it was a great hit. same kind of hit that Eric laid on Marc. It is the kind of hit that makes people fondly recall Buek. I always played the body no matter what in every sport i ever played. The only time you dont go full out is when you play pick up with your friends.

Dion Phaneuf is forever my most hated hockey player due to this hit.

Even if it was clean, that piece of **** intentionally goes after players in a vulnerable position all the time. He just knows how to make it look clean. A professional *******.

The chinstrap actually broke, it wasn't a result of a fit.

There is a difference between clean and legal imo. The Phaneuf hit was most definitely "legal" but I would hardly call it "clean." It was an inordinate and unnecessary amount of force behind the hit to a guy in a vulnerable position. Should Sauer have had his head up? yes, should his helmet strap have been more secured? absolutely, is Phaneuf a piece of ****? without a doubt.

I think it's the same with the Burrows hit. Probably legal but cheap at the very least if not dirty.

Sounds more like bad luck than bad genes.

Yea this is 5-7 year-old flag football and anything heavier than a light bump should be met with expulsion from the dad's league. Phaneuf and Sauer, both grown men, were playing hockey (a physical, contact sport) and Sauer got the short end of the stick on a clean, legal hit. Are you also upset that Staal sent Stajan back to the stone age a few seasons ago? You probably hate him just as much as Phaneuf.

Exactly. Mike Green has never been right since Stepan clocked him with that shoulder/elbow, which was ACTUALLY dirty. And we all hate him, too, right?

a two-way minimum contract would have been nice to keep some money in his pockets if he is doing that bad.

Michael Sauer was 24 years old when he was injured and had 70 NHL games under his belt. If he filed for permanent total disability, he was entitled to a $370,000 benefit.

I just remember the two buffoon announcers, especially the old idiot, laughing it up and showing his father in a suite, with other player’s fathers and saying “HAHA That’s the way he taut cha. Ha ha that’s the way he taut cha. ****ing imbecile. If your father is proud of you, it’s probably why your who you are. I think you can still see it on Youtube.
Just an unnecessary hit. His head was down. You hear it all the time from old timers, how you have to respect the game.
I wonder if Phaneuf ever contacted Sauer? Karma should take care of you.
MSG should do an update about Sauer in a Pregame show. I’m going contact them and suggest it.

The worst was when the Rangers were in town last year I think and they named him captain? part of the highlight reel was that hit :shakehead

I just checked youtube. The video was still there. Anyone who complains about Sam and Joe, just listen to these two idiots.

What sickens be is that time passes, they see that his helmet flies off and he hits his head, he looks dazed and they're still going on and on about that hit like a couple of frat boys. No "I hope he's ok". In fact they take a shot at him "he was admiring the puck". :shakehead

Phaneuf plays for the Maple Leafs, not the Rangers. Should Phaneuf had stood around for 10 seconds and went up to Sauer and said "I'm going to hit you now, is that OK? Are you ready? Remember, head up!" Sauer went to pinch and tried to play the puck while looking straight down, that's not Phaneuf's fault. Do people think Kronwall is a despicable player the way he hits? All I've really seen is praise for Kronwall and the way he catches people off-guard in order to deliver his hits. If any Ranger threw a hit like Phaneuf's on anyone else in the league, no one would talk about it or care outside of the week that game happened. Who's still talking about the Staal or Stepan hits? Do Calgary fans still have it out for Staal? Washington fans for Stepan? Should they? TBH I completely forgot Stepan ever threw any sort of hit on anyone, let alone what he did to Green. Why? Because we don't have to deal with or see the fallout. But nothing negative ever crosses the lips of anyone in the Rangers fanbase about either of those very recent incidents, because the Rangers didn't get the short end of either of those and fans of this team just wants things to incessantly harp on and add to the "Everyone is out to get the Rangers"/conspiracy theories.

I agree the Toronto announcers are buffoons for yucking it up.
