How would you rank the top 5 most valuable assets in the NHL today?

Yes I do. Quinn is close offensively, but not in the same stratosphere defensively. There are multiple dmen I would take over Quinn for a complete game playing some actual defense. Quinn is more i nthe Bouchard tier for me being a hybrid PP QB, offensive FO only whenever possible guy.

True. A healthy season would goes a long way, but the AAV and PPG is there.
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Maybe, but barely, and only because of population size and the fact that Alberta splits.

So far behind Montreal and Toronto that mentioning the Canucks in the context you did was such a reach.
Given the context, it's not a reach at all.

1. Cale Makar - may change after his next pay day, but I think he is multiple tiers ahead of any defenseman and is too rare to not value as high as possible.
2. Jack Hughes - Best pound for pound contract in the league. Feels like MacKinnon or Draisaitls previous deals.
3. Bedard/Celebrini - Insane trade value right now on their ELC's
4. Crosby - May not be right, but I think his value if traded as a rental would be way higher than it should be for name recognition and obivous performance.
5. Hellebuyck - Another maybe not for AAV, but the holy crap tier of goalies is so small that if he was on the market, he may fetch a lot.
Dumbest take and my expectations were low for you

No, there isn't. People make it sound like Makar is levitating around the ice. He's the best in the league, but it's close.
No it's not. He's better offensively and much better defensively. I would argue the gap between Makar and Hughes is about the same as the gap between McDavid and Matthews. Elite talents but there is a clear difference between them.

Don't you guys get tired of this shit? It's like the same 3-5 posters on each side re-litigating this crap with each other going on like 6 years now. Either you're all trolls or you get provoked by other trolls too easily. Kinda tired of it polluting every single thread and every discussion about Makar and Hughes - just be the bigger poster and let it go!
Think of them as soccer hooligans, they aren't interested in the sport, only in fighting each other with the motive of fandom.

It depends, if it's an existing team I'm going to go with Makar, Mackinnon, McDavid first three... if I'm starting a team from scratch in some kind of dynasty league I'm going... probably still Makar...., Michkov, Bedard, Fantilli, Leo, Celebrini, Stutzle, Dahlin would be some of those in my top 10

Hughes has a great contract but he is not in the same tier as drai/mcdavud/Kuch/L. Hughes/Makar so you simply can’t have him ahead of any of those guys apart from Kuch because of age.

There is a clear gap between them. Makar is literally the McDavid of d-men, he's in a tier of his own.
I don't know if this is quite true. I don't think there is a "McDavid level" of d-men, but I wouldn't argue if someone had Makar and Q. Hughes both in the next tier of most valuable player along with Mackinnon, Draisaitl, Matthews and Kucherov.

Only got time for a top 3.

Some people here vastly underrating both the effect of age and contract. For example, with Draisaitl, you're not just getting him now, you're getting aged 33+ for 4 years at $14 million/year.

You're also not just getting Celebrini now, you're getting him in his prime for the next 14 years or so, with part of that being on an ELC.

Crosby is one of the all time greats, but he should be nowhere near this list at 37, turning 38 this off season.
