In 2018 I wanted to trade down if we got another 1st and take Boqvist, now he's on waivers. Looks like I whiffed on that one. Not that I wouldn't mind taking a shot on him for free since he's a young RD.

Yeah I wanted Boqvist over KK.. I wasn't hitting well in that draft. Didn't want Tkachuk, liked Hughes but not as much as Boqvist.

I was big on Hughes and thought he was more impressive at Michigan then Tkachuk was at BU. Frankly to this day I am still surprised at how good Tkachuk ended up as he just didn't impress at all in the NCAA (not like I was watching him that much though). I did have some concerns over Hughes's lack of size but man was he impressive.

I don't agree. I'd rather have Dach than Romanov. Dach's had injuries that have messed things up a bit but going forward would you really rather have Romanov than Dach?
Dach will need to step up his game and makes around 50/60 points as a real 2nd centerman to make this trade a win for Montreal.
Since Romanov is playings for the Islanders, he is a physical dman playing on the first pairing. Brings a lot of hits, a lot of blocks shots, a positive ratio, and around 25 points/year. Imo, he is the kind of 3rd dman on a contender team while Dach is currently playing as a 3rd line centerman wich is less important to me, than what Romanov brings for the Islanders.

Romanov isn't playing above Guhle or Hutson on the Habs. They made the right trade and Dach would've been close to 50 pts in year one without the injuries, and obviously this year has been recovering from the one he suffered last year. So, it was the right trade to make, a great target, the right surplus defender to move.. we just have to hope that with a full year under his belt, a good off-season of training and some confidence, Dach will come back in next year and provide what he was looking to provide already in year 1 of the trade.

When healthy that’s what he’s done. Solid physical player and can handle 2nd line duties. His only problem has been staying healthy.

I’d rather have Dach but it’s not a slam dunk. Injuries have gotten in the way. Hopefully it’s a win/win for both clubs.

We have to be patient with Dach. It might be false hope or he proves he is the guy he can be. We just don't know and the true Dach will show at age 25+. Stay healthy and we will know a lot more at the end of next season.

Right now, there is no way to justify a big gap between Romanov and Dach.

Romanov is a top 4D. He's playing top pairing but that does not mean he is top pairing. Did you know that Romanov's giveaways/60 is worse than Matheson? Matheson is better in both areas... giveaways/60 and takeaways/60. Go figure eh.

Romanov needs to come home. I am still pissed Habs traded him away. This was not a good trade. Dach, it feels, won't become that coveted #2 center. Romy can hit and brings it.

Well maybe not awful. But nothing that will change anything on any team.
Okay, but how many players drafted at 46th do that?
Serviceable No6. Fine for what it is I guess. Though, my player that I LOVED is not shining either....Helleson.
There’s a solid chance he could be BPA at that spot. I don’t see anyone drafted later that’s off to a great start. I think Struble is going to be a solid 3rd pairing guy at the very least. He’ll be a steady physical player. Nothing wrong with that at 46.

I think Joel Bouchard at least part reason our drafting improved. From '19-'21, we took Caufield, Guhle, Mailloux. That's decent drafting considering where we were picking. From '09-15, we did 7 straight first round busts

Acceptable for now. We did a lot of picks during that period. However still 2 years early to make a call for those last 2 drafts. 2 more NHLers would make that a good draft period
Drafting Kotkaniemi over the franchise changing talent in that draft, was unforgivable.

I'll never understand how posters can't own up to admit that a player they liked wasn't good and instead blame it on management for poor development as a coping mechanism. It's as if they can see an alternate universe where with the development they considered perfect, the player they like meets their expectation no questions asked.

Most fans don't know the difference between their ass and a hole in the ground though. You couldn't get most fans to agree on what is tanking as so many seem to think that it means the GM and Coach tell the players to lose on purpose. You have fans saying how coaching doesn't matter, yet we all saw Caufield with 1 goal under Dom and can go and read all the posts from people bashing the shit out CC or after the WJC's, yet here we are with one of the top young snipers in the league.

Everyone gets it wrong, the best scouts fail most of the time as there are so many factors and variables that are involved with development, but you couldn't get posters on here to even agree to what development is, what the job entails, what the impact of good vs bad development means, etc... And why would they as most people work for a living and have families that take up a lot of time.

I've been wrong many times and that won't change, I thought for sure Norlinder was turning the corner in Laval only to see him play like shit last year. He was lazy and disinterested, that's on him but I did believe he would be an NHLer for sure. I thought Josh Brook would be skilled enough to play in the NHL but he looked terrible in Laval and while he did show a decent amount of progress up until the knee injury, he likely was never going to live up to the hype. I would have bet that Danny Kristo would make the NHL as a 2nd liner just as I thought Perezhogin wouuld be too as fast guys with good shots I seem to overrate. But in the end all I can do is watch them play and I give my opinion on what I see.
