How would the Oilers look going into the roster if they had matched Holloway and not signed Skinner?

Losing hollo was stupid. Should have matched.

Hollo would have half the points and less ice time if he stayed. Good for him to get.out and find better opportunities.

The answer to the oilers winning is not a forward. Our management thinks it is always one forward away.

Now a RHD and legit goalie? Yes please.

I’m pretty sure the alternate reality where the Oilers match Holloway’s OS, he suffers a career ending injury mid-season. I wouldn’t be shocked if this potential scenario played out that way.

Just look at Klefbom for instance.

A third of the team is currently injured, sick and/or banged up in some form.

Im curious why people keep saying Holloway wouldn't have developed if he stayed in Edmonton.

The wingers in the top 6, aside from Hyman who himself struggled this year, has been a rotation of mid players that they needed to get going.
Because playing for a team where your mistakes don't matter helps a lot with the confidence of young players. He can go out there, knowing that there are no expectations, and not worry if he makes mistakes.

The Oilers could not afford that luxury.

Let's assume this is the Oiler's roster going into the playoffs:

Frederic-McDavid-Hyman
Holloway-Draisaitl-Arvidsson
Podkolzin-RNH-Kane
Janmark-Henrique-Brown

Ekholm-Bouchard
Nurse-Walman
Kulak-Emberson

Would they be cup favourites or what?
Why do people assume that adding a player who did/does very well for a different team means he would do the same for the Oilers?

Guess what Arviddson had few 60 points seasons. Skinner was PPG before.

By the same logic, adding Skinner is much better than keeping Holloway, right?

He probably wouldn't been given the same opportunity in Edmonton, so doubt it'd have moved the needle much. I think he's a great fit for the Blues heavy style of play and Edmonton isn't quite that type of team.

It would also be interesting to see the Oilers with Ullmark, Thompson, or Stolarz in net.

Based on the way that depth players perform with the Oilers, Holloway would probably only have 7-10 goals and around 20-25 points. He likely wouldn't see the PP, at least the first unit, and he'd be buried in the bottom six. Look no further than the treatment of Jeff Skinner this year.

We really need to revive the Oilers being heavy favorites and Skinner signing thread. So much crow there and I was right in both. NBD.
