2025 NHL DRAFT Thread

Who should we pick 3rd overall (assuming Schaefer and Misa are gone)?

Davidson seemed rather giddy to stay at 3, almost like they have a tier break after that pick
With Powers floating around 3 names, it makes it feel a lot less definitive.

Davidson was also saying things that lacked confidence like talking about positional tiebreakers or coming up with reasons to take a guy that isn't BPA.

Desnoyers would be really well served by going to NCAA next year as he needs to be challenged to play a little faster in the same way Martone does. I hope he does go that route. I imagine he'll wait until after the Memorial Cup to make any kind of announcement though.

I appreciate the effort that he puts into these vids and enjoy them overall, but it sometimes feels like he's more focused on picking apart habits in kids who are obviously not finished products than he is on projecting traits. It's not always easy to separate the two of course but like in this video he says he can't call Martone a good playmaker because of some typical junior hockey puck management stuff even though his vision and ability to read how plays are developing are excellent. Not trying to crap on a guy putting out great resources for free, just feels like something you have to factor in going into each of his videos

Scott Wheelers mock draft has him thinking the Hawks are drafting between Desnoyers or Frondell if Schaefer and Misa are gone

Frondell pick would be very similar to the thinking behind picking Levshunov.

Draft is full of highlight reel high IQ's, danglers, speedsters, scorers, etc, all of whom have a small chance of elite play translating to the NHL even if they become good NHL'ers over time.

Frondell can already do things as a forward against adults that most scorers struggle with if ever get to. He's not a highlight reel guy. Lev wasn't a highlight reel D either. I saw a Boisvert comparison? Not even close, very different players.

I really don’t see much wrong with Frondell at three right now. If Schaefer and Misa are gone then just about any of these guys seem fine.

Yeah, I'm not saying who is or isn't the best. But I see the "logic" the Hawks used to pick Lev over the rest of the pack. His raw ability to play above his weight class with an elite stride at any angle. Hawks see a work in progress with an elite tool they can mold. Frondell already protects his ice with his frame and makes his own space like a pro in his current league against adults. Will it translate? Don't know. In fact, his game at the junior level would likely not be very impressive because he doesn't have all the slick stuff.

I do know this team needs a forward who can back guys the hell off with ease and increase possession time on the walls every shift while being able to put the puck in the net if it comes his way.

You were fine when they did that in 2019.
I can't control Stanley rushing him to the NHL, just so McD could sell more Dach jerseys.

I also can't control injuries.

It wasn't known when he was drafted that Kirby was made of glass.

But we do know that Frondell has injured the same knee twice...

I would 100% give the green light to that trade.. Blackhawks not landing 1 or 2 is a disaster for having a shit season. I know most of this board thinks Frondell, Martone, Hagens will be fine at #3 but I really don't. They seem to be mismatch of size, skill, skating abilities the Blackhawks prioritize. The 2 players who profile KD system perfectly are Schaefer and Misa..that's the list...to a smaller extent Desnoyers but I would trade down to land him. Much more of a prospect
Yeah I think so too:

This core:

Bedard - Nazar - Misa
Vlasic - Levshunov
Del Maestro - Rinzel

is better than this:
Like Martone, I really hope Desnoyers goes the NCAA route.

Frankly, I think most of these CHL kids should.
should be the new standard imo

They may have rushed him but the signs were there that he had limited offensive ability in juniors. And whenever he was healthy, he showed limited offensive ability. Don’t know what to tell you.

Also literally a big man playing against boys in his draft year. Genes help. That's why it's so hard to read some of these junior kids potential when they have physical advantage.

I just don't agree.

I think back to how good he was in that series against Edmonton... we were robbed of Dach's full potential.

He was also developed under Jeremy f***ing Colliton.

And to add to that, I remember reading that Kirby had an early growth spurt to that height, so he was more comfortable in his body come draft year. As opposed to say his brother, who I believe reached the same height but he was a little older when it happened.

Can anyone tell me what these dudes can do instead of arguing about how bad they are? I want to trade out of this draft so bad right now. I have no one like my sweet baby boy Levshunov to back this year. They are so meh.

Huh, I remembered it the opposite where he grew like 3-4 inches the year before the draft or something. I googled it and found this from a Sun Times Article:

Dach’s dad connected the two in 2015, shortly after Millar started her own company, and her first task was to utilize Dach’s natural athleticism to allow his skating to catch up with his body.

“As a kid, I was always tall and lanky, and then I hit a couple big growth spurts, so it took a while for my body to accept the way I wanted to skate without looking all funky,” Dach said, chuckling. “She’s been really good for me, helping me elongate my stride and get maximum power out of everything.”

Looks like he had grown to close to his full height by 2015.

random overanalysis of Misa I found. Thought it was kind of funny because who was mentioned at the end.

"Chernyshov arrived on 30 JAN. Misa racked up 51 points in that span. Of those 51 points, 42 involved one of Chernyshov or Parekh, or 82 percent. Of the nine points he notched without them involved, three were into an empty net and one was 3-on-3 OT. Eye test also revealed that Misa was being carried by these two teammates, so there's that.

This is a strawman anyway. But I do like the fact that people got triggered by the mere mention of Sam Gagner outproducing Misa."

Funny because Kane's stats are probably in a similar ballpark with Sam Gagner being involved in so many. I recall something like Mr. 8 pts had joked he was the reason Kane went 1st overall.
