How to watch Habs games without cable (mod warning: No illegal stream discussion)

You and me both. Except I live on the west coast so I actually need supplemental packages If I want to watch all games.

However, I didn't pay for any out of town package last year, and I'm not intending to do that this year either.

I find myself tuning out when the habs suck for a long time, and get most of my info from here. I mean this is the first time they will be missing the playoffs for three years in a row so it's new territory for me.

With yvon's passing, it reminded me of how awesome it was that I could just get rds for a couple bucks a month, and have every game available. They closed this loophole when Rogers acquired the tv rights from bell.
I just checked, and it looks like you could add RDS for $4 / month with Telus. Shaw's website is a little more of a mess, so no idea. I think those are the two cable options out west? No idea. I'm sure you've done your research but I was curious.

That's funny - if you are a football fan, there was a group of Bills fans in another apartment watching the Chiefs-Bills match that went back and forth in the final 3 minutes.

I was watching on cable and was way ahead of their stream, so I could hear their anguish and celebrations back and forth a good 10-15 seconds after I knew what happened.
I used to live downtown, and there was a bar nearby that a bunch of people would go to to watch the World Cup. It was always funny hearing how loudly people would cheer any time anything happened. I knew when to change the channel to check out what was going on in a game I otherwise didn't care about.

I’m in Toronto Sportsnet shows all games, except for the rare regional habs leafs game in Toronto. Can’t remember which territory the Canadiens are in but if it’s mtl you’ll need tsn to catch the regional games

As a New Brunswicker all I can say is good luck. My latest struggle, I had to get Starlink because Bell won't service internet in my area but now my IP address pings out of Toronto. Bought TSN last year and everything was blacked out because I was technically in the Toronto region. I had to find other ways to watch Habs games and don't regret having to do so for a second.

RDS is regional broadcasts so they aren't shown out west anymore. I remember about 10 years ago I could watch all of their games on RDS but that was stopped when the new TV deal came into effect.

I have internet with Bell.

I get tsn and Sportsnet from their app for 20ish bucks a month.

You just need a device to allow you to stream to your TV. (Chrome cast, apple tv, whatever else)

It's worth it and much better than getting just sportsnet.

Just sportsnet is 35ish bucks a month and then for Sportsnet one you gotta pay an extra 15, but through bell it's 4 bucks. (Around 20 minus Sportsnet 1, 4 for Sportsnet 1, so 25ish bucks)

Never tried the tsn streaming service.

This is my Helix (Vidéotron) life. Everything is delayed by a good 15 seconds

Interesting, I'll look into this. I also have internet with Bell ( Virgin). But no TV subscription.

I think that just 1 regular monthly internet subscription to TSN or Sportsnet is $15. So having both for $20 would be good.

Which app are you using exactly?

Yeah I can still get rds but they will black out habs games in my area. You have to be in the habs region to get access to it (eastern Ontario, Quebec and Atlantic).

So it's pointless for me to subscribe to rds.

Definitely news to me. For some reason I thought RDS' games were national coverage, but I guess not. I guess Sportsnet and / or that NHL.com package is the only option. Hopefully things are a little easier with the next TV deal but I have my doubts..

Yeah I think it's because once TVA got the national rights, they closed the loophole. Rds no longer could show games outside the Habs region after that.

There used to be a separate centre ice package which basically unlocked the Habs and sens games on rds. I don't know if that's still offered.

It would be great if the NHL would come out with an option to just buy the out market games for one team. Buying the whole Sportsnet package for all out of market games just isn't worth it for me.

What about using a VPN to bypass blackouts with NHL Gamecenter?

Edit: I see now that it no longer exists

Same. it's definitely expensive, but I like having random TV on in the background even when I'm not watching anything in particular.

I didn't realize this until a few minutes later, but game 6 vs Vegas. I was watching the game on Sportsnet, and I guess my neighbours had people over and were watching the game outside in their backyard on TVA. TVA must have been like two seconds ahead of Sportsnet since I heard loud cheering right before I saw Lehky finish it. I'm sure I would've been going crazy even if I was able to process what the sound was immediately, but that very small delay was slightly annoying even if in the end, it didn't really matter.
The Playoffs are the worst when the Habs are involved. I was Iiving in a residential area in NDG during the memorable Habs/Bruins Series. Nice spring evenings with the windows open. I counted at least 4 different time lapses depending on what channel people were watching and what service people had. Just about every house in the neighborhood was tuned to the games it was annoying as hell as I had Bell Satellite at the time and was behind then all.

Bell App, but they don't have it for smart tvs/xbox/ps at the moment.

Sportsnet is also hard to cancel. I tried 3 times and kept getting charged, so I just removed my credit card and it stopped.

If you contact bell, just ask them about a streaming service for it.

I got this early in the season, so the price may have changed. I don't look at the bill,my wife does, but with internet (1.5 gigs) and this it's just over 100 bucks a month. By this I mean the package and sportsnet one added on.

I get some other random channels, too but I never use them.

It's Bell Fibe TV app.

I will say the streaming from the app to my TV started out great and worked every time and then towards the end of the season and into the playoffs I had to really f*** around with it, but that could be my chromecast being a few years old as shit isn't built to last even a decent amount of time anymore.

Couldn't show it all, but it's just missing 400 which is TSN 5.

Being here in the States, being a Habs fan became a little more complicated since I dumped Comcast cable TV last spring. We now stream live TV via YouTube TV, so I lost access to Bally Sports Detroit and the NHL Network. During the hockey regular season, I subscribe to ESPN+ for $10 per month, which gets me most of the Habs games. However, games that are available locally are blacked out, so now without Bally and NHL Network I lose the games versus the Red Wings and the occasional game that is on the NHL Network (these were usually Saturday night games that may be on CBC). If they show up on regular ESPN or TNT, I have that covered through YouTube TV.

Can't believe they removed NHL gamepass, is that true? They are forcing you guys to give your money to SPORTSNET ? that's hilarious

This isn't the worst thing THEY are forcing us to do. But yeah... Sportsnet steaming is what I used last few seasons and it's decent. I think there is usually an early bird price and if I recall correctly something like $150-ish for the season. But you get ALL NHL games with VPN.
Wonder how much it's gonna go up this season because you know... gotta save the environment.

I am in Toronto and I can't get Habs games on RDS

Last year I was able to watch some Habs games on ESPN+, which I had because I had Disney Plus.

But watching Habs games in English feels unnatural to me.

Yeah getting rid of gamecentre which was already pretty mediocre was the last straw for me. I now get ALL live TV, ALL live sports including UFC and boxing PPV, and anything you could ever want to stream for 15$ a month total. I can't say who to go through but I'm sure most could figure it out.
