I’m really out of touch with all the different apps and ways to watch the Montreal Canadiens nowadays and I was looking for some help.
Ive read about blackouts in certain areas or for certain games. I’m looking for the best quality I can get to watch the games on my TV without having cable, what are the best options that would have the most available games? I’m in Nova Scotia.

Thanks!

Don't they sell the RDS app? No one needs Sportsnet because the Saturday Games are on CBC or Citytv OTA.
They're often on Sportsnet during the weekends.

But yeah, the RDS / Sportsnet apps would be the best way to watch most, if not all of the games.

edit: I see you're from Nova Scotia. I think that means you'd be out of luck if you wanted to watch the games that are on TSN since they're regional broadcasts, so you'd have no choice but to watch on RDS in those cases.

I've used the Sportsnet/TSN apps for the last couple of years and there are a handful of weekday games on Sportsnet each season. I also don't get OTA channels without buying a separate antenna either. Even with an antenna, I don't think CityTV broadcasts reach the Maritimes.

The Atlantic provinces are in Montreal's region for regional broadcasts

CityTV broadcasts out of Halifax so the Maritimes do have access to it

Ahhh Canada's Team The Toronto Maple Leafs have you by the shorties. :ha: The Habs get maybe 2 National Games a Year on CBC.

He's from Nova Scotia; I would assume he'd prefer the English options like I do.

That sucks. When I cut my cable like 7 years ago I did so because I found out I could pull in all the networks including PBS OTA. It cost me a one time investment of about $129.00 for the antenna.

If you want to watch all Habs games (and the rest of the NHL as well) you can get Sportsnet Now Premium.

As far as TSN goes they broadcasted 50 Habs games last season. Not sure how many they’ll broadcast this season.

FYI, SN Premium will only show the national broadcasts because NS is considered to be in the Montreal region.

Two seasons ago, SN had the 'What games will you see' infographic on their website that incorrectly told me that all Habs games would be viewable in my area. I thought this was too good to be true, as this has never been the case for any NHL package, ever, the reps on the phone also thought it was odd and told me I would be good. Of course, the first game of the year was a TSN game and was blacked out. Between the reps telling me to upgrade my package (despite admitting that Premium would work the same way) and the apologetic 'we can't do anything, sorry' managers (the first game of the season was past their 'get a refund date'), I had to dispute the charge with my credit card to get a refund.

does the NHL not have center ice app anymore? Every game in the league is available?
No more Center Ice in Canada, it's all SN branded. Every game is available, as long as you don't want to watch the games that are regionally broadcasted in that teams territory. IE, since I am in the Habs territory here in NB, I can watch every every game in the NHL, except the ones that are against the Habs on TSN.

Also, before TVA split the regional French broadcasts, you could get a special French only Centre Ice package that would let you watch al the Habs games, but that no longer exists.

They've got us cordcutters by the ****ing balls in this country if we want "stable", legal access to our beloved sports

- EPL and most soccer on Fubo, which has an ungodly monthly/annual fee that I don't think I will ever be able to convince myself to pay
- NFL Sunday Ticket/Champions League on DAZN, $200 annually
- NHL/Raptors on Sportsnet Now Premium/TSN. Blue Jays obviously exclusive to SN, $~450 combined, annually

Honestly not sure what the NBA's game pass situation is in Canada is right now, but I bet it won't improve or maintain status quo for us when they get their $75 billion on the next US broadcast deal. God only knows what that deal will do to sports broadcasting overall when it happens.

The transition from NHL Live to Sportsnet Now Premium was the least satisfying experience I have ever had as a paying customer in the streaming world. All the old features of NHL Live were gone, and a stable HD viewing was not attainable, despite gigafibe internet. TSN and Bell Fibe, on the other hand, always maintain the maximum available quality. TSN's LGTV app quality is 99.9% perfect.

I recognize that Bell Media is a horrific entity, but as someone willing to fork over the money to watch ma sports I pray every night that Rogers folds tomorrow. Their stewardship of Canadian NHL broadcasting has been a complete disaster.

I've noticed that trend too. Early on in the Rogers deal, the Habs used to be on city alot more for Saturday nights.

What would be more pertinent to me, with all those streaming services wich one offer best resolution lately. 4k seem to be rare for habs game but 1080p/60 would be a good start vs crappy cable res. Cant even enjoy a new TV.

Maybe since the team was better then so more people wanted to watch? Not sure, but you're right that they used to be on there more often. I'm a dummy who still pays for cable, so I get all of the channels anyway..

I pay for Cable because I can't stand being delayed and anything that could buffer just annoys the f*** out of me.

I'll pay for my creature comforts, f*** it.

You and me both. Except I live on the west coast so I actually need supplemental packages If I want to watch all games.

However, I didn't pay for any out of town package last year, and I'm not intending to do that this year either.

I find myself tuning out when the habs suck for a long time, and get most of my info from here. I mean this is the first time they will be missing the playoffs for three years in a row so it's new territory for me.

With yvon's passing, it reminded me of how awesome it was that I could just get rds for a couple bucks a month, and have every game available. They closed this loophole when Rogers acquired the tv rights from bell.

Same. it's definitely expensive, but I like having random TV on in the background even when I'm not watching anything in particular.

I didn't realize this until a few minutes later, but game 6 vs Vegas. I was watching the game on Sportsnet, and I guess my neighbours had people over and were watching the game outside in their backyard on TVA. TVA must have been like two seconds ahead of Sportsnet since I heard loud cheering right before I saw Lehky finish it. I'm sure I would've been going crazy even if I was able to process what the sound was immediately, but that very small delay was slightly annoying even if in the end, it didn't really matter.

That's funny - if you are a football fan, there was a group of Bills fans in another apartment watching the Chiefs-Bills match that went back and forth in the final 3 minutes.

I was watching on cable and was way ahead of their stream, so I could hear their anguish and celebrations back and forth a good 10-15 seconds after I knew what happened.
