Having a good start to the season.

Along with Nylander leading the team in even strength points.

Tied with Matthews in 3rd. place for even strength goals, behind Nylander and Knies.

Tied with Matthews in 3rd. place for all goals, behind Nylander and Knies.

Tied in 2nd. place overall points behind Nylander and marner.

At this point he's earning his paycheque.

You guys need to go watch a game live to see how good and smart of a player JT is. He doesn't even look slow in person. You'll be shocked at how his strong stride moves him around from a 200 ft perspective.

Yes, he's overpaid. But anyone with a brain understands why he's overpaid in this very moment. Not his fault incompetent team building threw away potential cups.

reminds me of the Flyers wasted years under Bobby Clarke's GM, he couldn't quite grasp that they needed a true no 1 goalie

He has played very well past 4-5 games

if he keeps playing well (not putting ppg offense neccessarily) and has a strong playoffs we should consider possible extension

Hopefully dont sign anything until we see how this team does in the playoffs and how Tavares season goes over the full year

Making a lot of slot plays this year the past 5 games which is nice to see

He's almost PPG and, at 34, he's still got some good years ahead of him. If he were to sign 2 years at Sid's $8.7M/year, would it really be that bad? If $8.7M is too much, $7.7M? He seems to like the number 7 on his contracts.

I need to see him be a 60+ pt player this year in the reg and 60 pt playoff guy before a new deal

8.7M and 7.5M is way too much for him

4 or 5M would be max offer if he gets 60+ pts.this year

Before this 5 game stretch he was playing horrific and constantly turning the puck over or losing battles.

He isnt a 1C and for 2C I wouldnt go more than 5M

He'll want more than that. Maybe they'll meet half way between my $8.7M and your $5M. :)

9 goals and 7 assists in 17 games

Both the goal and assist tonight were literally things of beauty.

It's been a lot of fun to see him recently. He's really stepped up with Matthews out. That OT goal looked like JT was 22 years old again. I almost had to double check it wasn't some old clip with his Islanders jersey on.

I think Berube trusts him a lot, too. I can't quantify it with stats, but it seems like his line comes out a lot to calm the game down.

I suspect he's is going to get around probably three years between $5M and $6M annually.

Anything thing longer term or higher rate and Leafs should walk. IMO

Playing very well and maybe not being the captain is a weight off his back. He will be a key contributor to a deep playoff run.

No doubt in my mind that it's a weight off his shoulders. Being the Captain in Toronto brings a ton of pressure and scrutiny. Now he just gets to just go about his business.

He's meant to be a Leaf.

He is a proud player and knows hard work on and off the ice, his whole career.
Has increased his strength to help for less footspeed.
