He’s worth 40% rn

He’s only ever been worth it his first year

Years 2-3; 80ish%

Year 4-5: 70ish

Year 5: 40%

Solid 3C, grinds away and can chip 45-55 points maybe

July 1, 2025 is in 482 days.

Until then he’s a $4.5 million player value and declining on the third line.

Trying to determine how much value Tavares providws us?

Tavares makes 11M and has seen his offense die

Is Tavares worth 50%, 40%, 30% of his deal?

He should be around 4.5M so about 60% overpaid
He should be making Stamkos cap hit. They signed a year a part.

He's also not captain material.

If I'm being honest, this is about where I'd expect JT to be at this point in his career. It's not his fault he's declined and this isn't a case of him being lazy or complacent. I think he's still a useful player and could still be a factor in the playoffs as he doesn't mind the front of the net where he can score greasy goals. If you want a dollar amount, I'd say he's worth 5 million dollars, maximum.

Worth 5-6. About 50 % overpaid.

I would expect a decline right about now but the big disappointment came in years 2-5 where he didn’t finish top 10 in points once.

edit - Actually he didn't finish in the top 15 scoring even one time over the contract and he is 42nd in PPG over the course of the contract. Awful return for a guy with the 7th highest salary in the NHL.

In 2024 he’s worth about what I’d say ROR is getting so 4.5. I’m hoping this is just a rough stretch because I hated this signing since day 1 but performance has not been an issue till like January of this year. I’d say his true value since the beginning of the deal was about 8.5 and I’d have been okay with paying 9.5 as he was a UFA. 11 was just honestly never his real value

I don’t even think it’s as high as most of you think. His numbers are still inflated from playing with a hot Willy and PP1. Imo he’s around a 3M player this season.

When first signed about a million or so

Now while he still is a pretty close to a PPG player, but with some cracks showing probably 8.5 would be the right number.

If he stays the new contract considering the cap number he should be around Bert's current number.

how much do you think the MVP is overpaid seeing as money is the end all and be all for some of folks.

Over the length of his contract, maybe 15%. Currently, about 60-70%.

The point is not that he's overpaid, but that he wasn't what the team needed. On another team where he would have been the 1C for the first 5 years, $11M would be reasonable. On a team where he was virtually guaranteed to be the 2C for most of it, $11M was an overpayment of biblical proportions.

He’s probably $3 million-$4.5 million in value if you compare his impact to a ROR but probably a $7.5 million in inflated reputation. At $11 million, quite a deal for him.

Just thinking about what he’ll be in October 2025, there’s no way I want him back under any circumstances.

Maybe it's time to give him an extended look as the top line LW with Matthews and Marner. He can still forecheck well and produce offensively in the right situations and it would allow him to focus more on that part of his game.

i view him as a depth winger because that's how he plays , so he's worth about 2-3m

he was an anchor on the 2nd line and now he's killed his wingers production on the 3rd line

truthfully i don't even want him on the team

but he has has a big name so people will ignore how he's playing and still think he's a somewhat valuable piece , pretty much how fans ignored how bad Phaneuf was

60% more overpaid IMO

that said, time for a RETOOL and wait out his contract to expire. By the time his contract is done; I wouldn't entertain having JT back on the Leafs unless its for a league minimum. If he wants more money he is free to test the market and get it from someone else

He’s a 5m player at this point.

Would only bring him back post-contract if he comes on a Spezza deal in a bottom six specialist role. Anything more, move on.
He's not a $5 million player but that's what the Leafs will re-sign him for... 3 years x $5 million.

Remember, you heard it here first.

ROR signed for 4.25mil or so. And despite being a 4 yrs contract and JT has two yrs left, I would still take ROR over JT at this moment. JT is about 6mil over paid
JT has a year and 19 games of contract left plus any playoffs.
