Speculation: Quinn Hughes acceptable trade packages

If guys like Gretzky and Bure can be traded.....anybody can. By the end of next season, the Canucks will have their answer on Hughes.

If he isn't signed by end of the next season, and indicates to the Canucks he's heading into his option season--then the trade clock starts ticking.

If would be a serious mistake to try and trade a guy like Hughes in the midst of his UFA season. Look at the fiasco surrounding Miko Rantanen this season. No team would ever want to risk that.

So next season could by Quinn's last one in Vancouver--or he could could decide he wants to finish his career as a Canuck. It's his decision....not the Canucks.

A team like Washington could makes sense if they lose in the first 2 rounds. They would want Ovi to get one more cup.

A package around McMichael and Leonard.

Hoglander - Pettersson - Leonard
Debrusk - McMichael - Lekkerimaki
Joshua - Raty - Sherwood

D-Petey - Hronek
M-Petey - Willander
Mynio - Mancini

Demko
Lankinen

Actually going to edit it out. It doesn’t feel right talking about trading Hughes.
Exactly what's the point the Canucks aren't going to win ant reade for quinn who has been the heart and soul of this team, leave the trade packages stuff alone.

As soon as we missed out on Josh Norris I kinda pinpointed Buffalo as that team that could do something silly and has all the assets to grab all 3 brothers plus their friend Brady.

And your right they dont need more picks and prospects they need a player or two who drags them into the fight, like Quinn and Brady.

I also see Seattle as that team on the cusp of something silly, albeit for different reasons like creating a buzz in the market and Ronnie Franchise job security.

Quinn Hughes for Owen Power, Konsta Helenius, 1st (#7)

Elias Pettersson, Nils Hoglander for Matty Beniers, 1st (#5)

Canucks draft the two Swedes #5 and #7.

Both Power and Beniers, drafted 1 and 2 in 2021, are signed for 6 years giving us a new window of 6 years along with Hronek, MPetey and Debrusk.
Man I hope that Alvin would be fired if he even thought about these 2 trades, talk about a sideways move and gutting the fanbase of Hughes.

Hughes on par with the greatest and most exciting scorer that ever donned the Canucks sweater,c'mon man
I was a massive Bure fan (and still am) but Hughes is pretty much level with a prime Bure, and he keeps getting better. We have had some great players (Bure, Sedins, Luongo, Naslund, Bertuzzi, etc) but none of then got a Hart except Henrik. If Hughes plays a full season next year, he has a real shot at winning it. And D men seldom do.

Edit - Chris Pronger is the only D man since Orr.

Sports fans in 2025 are just the absolute f***ing worst. It’s a generation of losers.
Social media has become a platform for trolling skewing the truth and spreading hate without much thought or care for how the exchange would be if the stupid ass things people say were said to one's face and they had to be accountable. Doesn't help when mainstream media sets a horrible example every day

Most sport fans in person i find are pretty good but the amount of incessant complaining while paying 100s of dollars to be at the event always blows my mind

Seems the minute something goes wrong or there is adversity people want something else. I swear half the population is on Ritalin. Hughes swipe left.

Probably is gonna be the best Canuck defenceman of peoples lifetimes here and were thinking about what you could get to be rid of him?....doesn't seem right when he's the Captain is 25 and hasn't suggested anything of the sort.

I'm out on this type of discussion

I'm going to sound like an old man yelling at clouds (and I'm not even old) but the current generation of sports fans boggles my mind. There's this thing now where basically you only cheer for team if you have an elite team with superstar talent and if your team is anything other than that, 'f*** that, this sucks, tank for draft picks!' even if you have an upper-middle competitive team.

Sports fandom for basically the history of sport (and it's still this way everywhere but NA with draft lotteries attached to sport here) started with cheering for your team and going through the ups and downs and building attachments to the team and players and having that attachment validated when the team eventually did well. And even if the team sucks ... well, you're proud of cheering for your shitty team who does their best. Now fandom seems to start with I WANT CHAMPIONSHIPS and then works back from there and if the team isn't on the literal cusp of a championship then you cheer for your team to lose. It's just total backward anti-fandom and I hate it, It's like people living off Youtube and Tiktok clips who don't actually like sport or have the attention span to follow it and enjoy it unless it's being totally validated by wins at all times.

Counterpoint:

You've been a fan for 30 years and your team has never won a cup, and every time they get close shit goes sideways. It's hard to get excited for a team that may sneak into the 16th seed if everything goes right.

Some revisionist history here.

No one wants to trade Hughes. But if he shows serious indications that he is not going to re-sign with the Canucks sometime in 26 - 27, and we are not having a good season, you have to seriously think about it at the trade deadline.

We are not likely to re-sign Boeser. We got nothing for him and are going to lose him. But it sure sounds like we were offered nothing of value.

Anyhow, I suggested a package for him. Not because I wast to trade him. He is right there with Bure as the best Canuck ever. I hope he finishes his career as a Canuck.

A guy with the integrity & competitiveness of Hughes isn't going to walk. Period. The argument that he "wants to play with his brothers" doesn't mean he will abandon his team. The argument that "he wants to win a Cup" doesn't mean he'll jump if the Canucks aren't serious contenders when his contract is up. A guy like Hughes wants to stay with the team and bring the Cup to Vancouver. He's the captain, he's arguably the most competitive player the team has ever had, and you know in his heart he believes that he can make it happen here. If he walks it is because the Canucks can't/won't pay fair market value for him, which won't happen. He'll re-sign in his option year for at least a 7-year extension, you can bet on it.

We're more likely to see a Ray Bourque scenario here: he'll stay and play through his prime years, and if the team doesn't win with him here, we might see him dealt or sign with a sure thing in the last year or two of his career, when he's pushing 40, just so he can hoist the Cup.

if we're talking about this as "let's be proactive and realistic about our us born franchise player and his desires on where he wants to play out his career" - ok, but it's wildly premature.

but if something like quinn and whatever for barzal + dobson (rfa) or dahlin + peterka (rfa) is available this summer, we'd be negligent to not explore it.

talking about trading him for a bucket of picks is mental lol

i don't think hughes is leaving either, but there is room for this question as long as we aren't framing it rebuild at all costs. and we lose no matter what, but if the canucks are in a tkachuk-calgary situation, then it has to be figured out.

I guess it feels 'safer' to troll this Board and fans who legitimately wonder about Quinn Hughes' future in Vancouver. But the 'speculation' is far from 'idle chatter' on social media or just a 'dumb thread' on HF Boards.

Canucks Army has published a piece "The Hughes Deadline is Closer than you Think." And they're right. The Canucks have the 2025-26 season and maybe a bit of the off-season to get Hughes name on a long-term contract extension. There's no way they can let him play into his UFA season without a commitment.

So 'yes', the deadline for Hughes in Vancouver 'is' a lot closer than many are apparently willing to admit. Call it a denial of the 'inconvenient truth' or in some cases 'outright denial'.

But please.....don't trash the messenger.

Well said. Lots of negative comments on here for a legitimate discussion. And those who denigrate those of us who post as either negative nellies or whatever are tiresome. And they all ignore that almost to a man (or woman, to quote Reg, well no, I guess that was Loretta) we want Quinn to retire a Canuck a few hundred years from now.

Yeah, I think a lot of the angrier posters here are taking the topic in the wrong spirit. I don't think anyone wants Hughes traded immediately, this is more of a "it's July 1st 2026, Allvin has reached out to Hughes' camp about a new contract, and Hughes' agent responded by laughing into the phone for a full minute and then hanging up. Now what?" hypothetical. No point pretending that Hughes remaining a Canuck for the next 8 years is a decision that the team can make unilaterally.

A very positive interview with Hughes by IMac. Quinn obviously feels a sense of 'obligation' to the franchise that drafted him; and has helped develop him over six seasons to become what he is now-- an NHL superstar.

And he seems optimistic, that if the Canucks add another key piece or two, they can once again find themselves at the top of the Pacific. And I don't think he's being overly optimistic.

Of course I suppose we should expect no less from a class act like Hughes. This is a long ways from becoming the Tkachuk situation in Calgary; or the Tavares impasse on Long Island.

And with his brothers playing in Jersey, you could perfectly understand his desire to suit up with them on the same team. But it's encouraging that as of right now--that doesn't seem to be his priority.

I've been a fan since day one and idiotic trades like the Cam Neely one for example set the franchise back for years. Any talk of trading Willander or D-Petey is just as stupid. This sad sack franchise finally gets two potential unicorns, maybe three with Mancini and many Vancouver fans are on board with trading them for guys like Shane Pinto or Midget Rossi. It seems like all the numpties from the Dan Russell show have figured out how to use a computer and here they are.

But that said.... what if he comes to Allvin and says, 'I wouldn't mind being dealt'?

Not saying he would but to just dismiss it would be asinine and let him walk in 2027.

The dude asked a legit question. The careers are only so long. He wants to win.

I personally think he likes it here and he's not of the same frame of mind as the assheads here that think EVERY management group are Pejorative Slurs.

I keep him at 15 x 8, next summer. He's a top 5 player in the game all day and he tilts the ice.

As I said McJesus will be an interesting study. What does he do? We all know we get that 8th year so money can kick, and the Dagos aren't cheap. Imagine those two sharing the same sheet every night for 7-8 years.....

But play his game....,what is the price point?
