How much would you give Callahan on his next contract?

Enough with the stupid Clarkson contract. The Redden contract didn't set the standard for all defensemen and nor will Clarkson's when it comes to forwards.

If Cally gets massively overpaid, it will either be due to a bidding war or because some team overvalues his services. Most GMs realize the Clarkson contract is a bad one and are not going to be of the mentality that "so-and-so is a better player than Clarkson - he has to get a substantially more lucrative contract than him!"

Everyday I fear the the franchise crippling the future by signing this guy to anything that he wants.

Its clear that since the deal isn't done, and Cally's comments to the media that "nothing is going on" with the contract that he is asking for a kings ransom.

I want no part of this guy long term. Sick of him, sick of him getting hurt, sick of him getting 5 mill to be an energy 3rd liner.

Pominville wasn't a rental. He had this season before becoming a group III. The player signed an extension. The contract can be viewed as team friendly. $28M for 5 years. $5.6M. Pominville has better numbers too. .78 points per game.

My mistake…. I thought he was going to be a UFA.

I'd still believe that Callahan could very likely bring back a 1st rounder in 2014 or 2015.

Rangers with Callahan in line-up - 12-10-1 (Not counting Nashville game)
Rangers without Callahan in line-up 5-7-1 (Counting Nashville game because it all went south after he got hurt)

Also, the checking is not there, their PK has given up more goals, PP looks worse, and no one is crashing or going in front of the net.

Yeah the team is missing him. Since he got hurt they are 1-3-1.

If Callahan gets 5 years and 5.5 million no one should be complaining. Also this guy has a top 10 selling jersey in the entire NHL, he is one of the face of the Rangers, and to trade him or not extend him would be a huge blow to this team.

Nuff said.

Yup. Nuff said. Barely a difference.

Also, sample size. Also, this doesn't account for other potential pieces added to the lineup if we deal Callahan.

Also, Sean Avery.

I'll take my chances trading him, thanks.

Why would trading him be a huge blow to the team? He isnt the team

This entire team has major issues, Callahan is not one of them.

So we are going to do what Buffalo did? How are they doing now?

Buffalo is rebuilding, they got rid of older aging players and got some picks in return. We should do the same. Callahan should be moved at the deadline

Yes, he is.

  • He can't stay healthy this season
  • Before he was injured, he recorded 6 points in his last 16 games. 2 Of those were goals
  • What's this team's record again when they don't score first? Something like 2-16-1? Who's the captain of this team again?
  • He's in a contract year, chances are he's going to demand a pretty penny come the end of June
  • -6 on the season, 43.3% offensive zone starts

There are plenty of problems with this team. Callahan is one of them this season.

He has to sign off on that, I believe he has a no move clause in his contract. He wants to stay with the Rangers.

Who caree what he wants? If trading him makes us better in the future then do it. You would give him 5-6 mil a year for 6 years? A guy who cant even stay healthy? The "captain" of the rangers?

No, I would give him 4 or 5 years, 5.5 Million max. Don't know why that is such a big deal. I see him also taking a hometown discount.

5.5 is alot for a guy who never even hit 60 points. Its a big deal because this team doesnt need to pay guys like him almost 6 mil, especially with all these injuries.

Why can you see him taking a discount? Because he is Captain Cally? He doesnt care about us or the salary cap, he wants his money. You think he is having fun like he said when AV came in?

I'm tired of debating about this. If he re-signs which the odds are he will, great, if not oh well have to move on and just hope they can get this sinking ship back on track.

I think he should be traded for picks or prospects. See what he wants, make an offer but if it isnt done by the deadline, trade him. We need depth in this organization

Picks and Prospects for developing players which could take years? Years that Lundqvist's prime does not have. No, you go with core guys who have proven to be successful before this trainwreck of a season, and then sort out your bottom 6 forwards.

Right now the D is the major concern, they are lost out there. Once the D is settled, the offense will follow, and they will start scoring.

Ok so trade him for a scoring winger if you dont like picks or prospects, whatever. He isnt an offensive player

So keep him because he's popular? That's a terrible reason.

To say that Callahan has not been a problem this season is comical. He's been bad and injured.
