How much support for Neely as Team President?

He was a great bruins player, but not the right man for an upper management job. He has led the Bruins to 3 straight non-playoff years and visible decline.

It's time to fire Cam Neely and clean house in the Bruins organization. Whether Jacobs has the guts to pull this off remains to be seen. But I expect major changes at the end of this season.

Team President's should not be focused on player personnel decisions or have anything to do with coaching staff. Generally, I wouldn't expect any comments on anything hockey related, except to say, hey team's going great, good job, or ya too bad their in a funk...

Here in Ottawa, the Sens just replaced long-time fantastic President Cyril Leeder with a new guy (can't remember his name)... The main reason for the swap is the upcoming move of the arena from outskirts of Kanata to downtown Ottawa. The new guy has experience with this and is expected to focus on ensuring a smooth transition.

For Neely, I can't quite recall if there was a real mandate for his hiring, other than to give fans a familiar face they loved. Since then, was he given direction? Was he told that his job was dependent on the team's success or lack of? If so, my opinion would be that he was put in a position to fail. Unfortunate for him. I think he could still be the President, and maybe even a good one.. But the organization needs to clearly define the role and make sure that the mandate is clear. I would say it should not overlap in any way shape or form with Hockey operations.. That should be the GM's area.

6 - utter complete disaster who is most responsible for this epic downfall. Unretire #8 and give it to Jimmy Hayes.

I don't care if neely is fire or not, but i just can't find in thousands of post clear infos with link of what he done good or bad...it is all deductions and speculations....
And i really don't see what will change now with this team if he is fired...
What i firmly believe is EVERYBODY who agreed with the seguin trade should be fired...president, coach, gm ....
It is where this team turned from champions to ..........bof.........

Right; can't recall the name myself but I heard he just came from Toronto, but previously was in Edmonton where he was successful with some of the branching out of the business into the city development side. That what it seems the Sens want.

That arena in Kanata really is a lousy location. I haven't been there for a few years. Did the area around it get more developed? What is their plan for the arena now? When I first saw it back in 90-something, I thought...bit of a white elephant.

Tom Anselmi.

We were all quite shocked at how the Leeder firing was handled. He was a founding member and helped bring the Sens to Ottawa. He also baled them out of trouble several times and is highly regarded. He even helped saved Eugene's life for cyring out loud.

Melnyk was pretty blunt and lacking sensitivity in this move. Bad on Melnyk.

Leeder would be a fine addition in Boston on the business side.

I live 10 mins from the rink and while the area is building up and developing, it's slowly. My friends remark that you 'don't drive to too many NHL arena's down a country road!'

Downtown is the right move for Ottawa, even thought I am a West End guy.

Leeder has been a loyal soldier in Ottawa and to Melnyk as you stated. I have a friend who works for the Sens in a lower level admin position and while he never divulges any real juicy gossip as he doesn`t really have any, he was both excited and disappointed at how this was handled.

Excited as Anselmi, in his opinion was brought in as he has the vision and negotiation skills to try and secure a new home for the Sens where Leeder wasn`t in his comfort zone in that area (my friend`s opinion) and anyone who`s been to a Sens game would understand why a move is paramount. I liked the barn where it is strictly because while I lived there, I was less than a 10 minute bus ride to the games and it was easily accessible but that`s not the case for majority of fans.

Anselmi`s history is one where arena building and real estate, unless I`m way off base is an area which he is very comfortable and experienced in securing?

But this was handled in almost a Panther`s-like manner, or at least, that`s how it sure seems

The developments around Canadian Tire Center don't really work well with a sports arena.. you have: a Costco, Home Depot, residential housing, an outlet mall, a hunting and fishing store.. all great for residential, which is what the area is.. but pretty bad for a sports team. Really bad planning from the start.

I understand he hasn't done much, but he did hire Sweeney. To some Sweeney is awesome and everything good is him and everything bad is Neely. Yet they forget the fact that he hired Sweeney says he did something good. So it tells me a lot really. Anyone that gave a fovarable opinion of Sweeney and trashed Neely really is biased.

I voted average for both. I could care less if either/or both are replaced. There is something rotten with this team though and I suspect it comes from all areas, from players up to management. It really took rock bottom before Jacobs gave in and hired outside management to come in. I suspect as long as there is some fight in the dog he will do the same again. It's going to take last place in the NHL for change to happen
