We know why DJ wasn’t fired $$$$

I’m convinced if Andlauer had gotten the team in May/June he would have overhauled Hockey Ops and we’d have a GM and new coaching staff.

The options will all be slaughtered, Hamonic can take the abuse, some others might be destroyed by it.
So you know that the options will be worse? The chance that they are worse is actually pretty low since Hamonic has bottom of the league defensive metrics

Seems like a weak answer to assume that everyone else will be just as bad and further proof that the coaching staff has stayed too long

In 2013, the Flyers fired Peter Laviolette 3 games into the season.
Craig Berube took over and went 42-27-0-10 the rest of the way and made the playoffs.

In 2008, the Blackhawks fired Denis Savard 4 games into the season.
Joel Quenneville took over and went 45-22-0-11 the rest of the way and made the playoffs.

Other early firings:
In 2007, the Thrashers fired Bob Hartley 6 games into the season.
In 2015, the Blue Jackets fired Todd Richards 7 games into the season.
In 2006, the Flyers fired Ken Hitchcock 8 games into the season.
In 2000, the Bruins fired Pat Burns 8 games into the season.

It happens. It should have happened here last week.
how many coincided with a new owner? One who took over in training camp.
how many took over when the POHO came in late in training camp?

yes it happens.. this is unique. It is a perfect storm. Staios was a secondary figure in Edmonton. It is unlikely he would have done any prep work on a list of GMs and coaches.

You need 2-3 weeks at a job just to know where the F all the toilettes are!! now sit there and hire a GM and a coach(s)...

Andlauer/Staois needed 4-10 weeks. They were given (-)2 weeks.

We first heard that a sale was imminent in February of 2023. Then March, Then April, Then May.. it took to late June.. Then 3 months for handover!!!! it meant 2023/2024 were (probably) burnt.

I don't buy it. This isn't like walking into a private company where you don't know how the sausage is made until you step through the doors.

Both Andlauer and Staios were in the league last year. Andlauer was part owner of a team in our division. They would have had plenty of time to get very educated opinions about the coaching staff and players we have here.

I don't think they wanted to be the assholes who came in and cleaned the house on day 1. But in trying to be diplomatic and "fair", they risked blowing another season.

It's year 1 for them but year 7 for the fans. It wasn't going to take much for the gasket to blow. And 10 games in, here we are. It's as toxic as ever.

In the past, at least most of the anger was directed at Melnyk and Dorion. The players were shielded from it. Now, it's going to fall squarely on them, and they're not handling it well.

If nothing is done, Andlauer will look at crowds of 12k again by December and he'll have a group of jaded players who resent the people he needs to buy tickets. I'm sure he'll hate that much more than the booing.

Things can go south real fast. Erik Karlsson went from hero to zero in the eyes of many fans in this market in the span of ~8 months. The locker room went from "everyone is high-fiving and hugging the GM" to an untenable disaster zone just as fast. How much equity does Tkachuk have built up?

he knows it. notice he has disappeared. Notice that the game after the Dorion firing, he was standing all game long.. Did you see his F bomb at game send.

I watched the Saturday game from beginning to end.. Maybe I turned away at the wrong time, but cameras did not pan to the fans and did not pan to the owners box.

he is a smart man and knows this.

But I still think his hands are tied. Don't rule out: maybe he has an eye on a specific coach who is presently employed (assistant or head). He has to wait for the end of the season.

This last game and the post-game comments from Brady and Timmy sealed the deal for me.

DJ has to go and he needs to be replaced with a coach that will actually promote accountability.

We need a veteran coach who won't hesitate to give Tkachuk, Stutzle, Batherson and Chabot an earful if they don't pay attention to their defensive play.

They've been able to get away with far too much for far too long. Needs to change.

Bingo, that’s why DJ needs to go.

Simmer needs to simmer down. This is not productive.
On one hand, I agree, nothing to be gained by posting that.

On the other, if it were to be true, nobody likes a rat, and people would typically get dragged for such a move. I could see the temptation to make such a petty move known, even knowing I'm basically being just as petty.

DJ's strategy seems to encourage Fs leaving the zone early. He also does not require strict defensive play. Guy Boucher did. That is one factor that results in poor 5 vs 5 play under DJ. This team needs to become more defensive oriented.

Yes he may have to wait until the end of the season to hire the head coach he prefers. However, he could name someone as interim head coach with some guidelines on what he wants to coaching staff to do.

No need to wait. Anybody -- and I mean ANYBODY -- could replace DJ behind the bench. AFAIK he is like Hodor from the Game of Thrones...simply holding the door between player shifts. We need a new Hodor.

If Smith is his harshest critic... why have we not seen any improvement on the defensive side of the puck ...doesn't critique that topic I guess
He can be really hard on himself but unless he is able to reflect on why he has lost and provide insight then it doesn't matter.

It’s actually hilairious how enamoured Chychurn was with LA’s structure in his post-game interview. Seemed a little jealous.
I always find his post-game comments interesting. After the Buffalo loss, he talked about needing to stay on an even keel. Personally, I don't think it's jealousy, maybe envy. I think it's his way of saying what the Sens aren't doing, a back-handed zinger if you will.
