Not at all. If the post had only alluded to him being consistently the most dangerous offensive player, I would’ve had nothing to disagree with.

Nylander had a great playoffs but marner did it over and entire season multiple times now.

Keefe should have separated marner and matthews after it was obvious marner wasn't figuring it out. I think getting secondary defenders (like nylander was) would have really helped him get going

Marner is better but not by much. The difference is not 4 million. The same flaws people talk about with Nylander are the ones Marner has. Marner just makes fancy passes better.

Marners at fair value is probably around 9.0-9.5 mil winger
So that’s around 2-2.5 mil

That's Rantanen money. No way Marner deserves that.

Nylander should have got no more than $6.5. Marner should have been $8 to $8.5. He should not be getting more than Aho who is just a superior player all around.

Marner - $8m x 8 years
Matthews - $10m x 8 years

Well Marner does play nearly 6 minutes more per game so given the same ice time and opportunity I wouldn't be surprised if Nylander generated more offense given the same role.

As for the PK. Marner hasn't been good in that role for about 2 years now. Just because he get's the opportunity doesn't make him the better player.

Nylander is much better defensively 5 on 5 and when Marner used to dive around and block shots on the PK he was actually a difference maker. Now he isn't much different than a Mikheyev or an Engvall on the PK.

Thing is When he signed that contract, it was off the 94 point year with John Tavares and the 4 in 7 against Boston playing against the shut down line. Don’t forget that the ZH-JT-MM line was so sound defensively that Cassidy had to move pastrnak off the top line cuz he couldn’t produce. I’d say 9-9.5 x 8 coming off that year was fine, his playoffs have been mediocre since but taking into account the signing time, I’d say this is fair value.

Really depends on whether you value the regular season or the playoffs. Regular season Marner > regular season Nylander. Playoffs Nylander >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> playoffs Marner.

Playoffs Marner is among the worst players to play in the NHL, ever. 18 games without a goal.

Yikes. He played well. Looked like could’ve made something happen mist shifts, but he ducked hits left and right. Right in game 1 he took a delay of game nervously flipping the puck over the glass instead of absorbing the hit to make a safer play.

Well, Marner does that without even being under pressure.

Marner did do the same thing twice. Marner’s play in the series should not be the measurement. Matthews was marginally better than Marner, and people using that a measurement are giving Matthews a pass instead of measuring Matthews bs himself, to which he didn’t come anywhere near playing to his standards and abilities himself.

If Marner was the measurement, everyone gets a pass.

Matthews wasn’t actively bad. Marner hindered the team doing more harm than good.

Plus Marner is less likeable. He’s a greedy brat who cries in the penalty box
