How many teams would Thomas Harley be a #1D on?

Using the test of would I take Harley right now over a team's current best D, the yeses are: ANA, CHI, DET, EDM, FLA, MTL, NJ, NYI, NYR, PHI, PIT, SEA, TOR, UTA

So nearly half the league. We got a similar answer, and that number is only going to grow as he gets better

You won’t find a single Red Wings fan—or anyone who watches both teams objectively—who would trade Seider for Harley. Their age difference is just four months, and Seider is already the better player. If you're going to argue that Harley is “only going to get better,” then you have to acknowledge the same is true for Seider.

Drop the exaggeration.

I like Seider, but I'd probably lean Harley. Two very good d-men and there isnt a wrong answer.

Nowhere did I say anything about their (lack of) age difference.

Fair take — I get the Harley love, especially with his breakout this year. But Seider's doing way more heavy lifting. Top matchups every night, 25+ minutes, PK anchor, physical tone-setter... all while putting up nearly the same point total on a worse team.

Harley’s thriving in a more sheltered, offensively-gifted environment. Seider’s been the guy from Day 1. If we're talking complete defenseman — impact, usage, responsibility — Seider still clears, even if Harley’s more fun on the stat sheet right now.

And yeah, I wasn’t calling out you specifically on age — just preempting the usual “Harley’s younger” argument, which doesn’t really hold water when they’re only 4 months apart.

No wrong answer, sure. But Seider’s still the right one.

Same with me. Seider is great too, but since Miro went down and Harley stepped into the #1 role, he was a beast. Only Makar scored more goals Harley for Dmen.

You couldnt go wrong with either though

When you say shit like that...it's all you can do really. You don't know what you're talking about.
Then explain how Faber is better because the other guy couldn’t give me an answer.

Harley produced nearly twice as much, has superior possession metrics, and better analytics.

He’s been vastly superior in the playoffs as well. Faber got taken to the woodshed every night against Vegas and didn’t put up a single point.

What does Faber do better?

You called Faber an ‘offensive defenseman’

Yeah, because his possession metrics and analytics suck ass. He got beat like a rented mule every game against Vegas.

All the hubris and laugh reacts, but can’t come up with a rebuttal when challenged because there isn’t one.

lol.

You wont get an answer because there isnt one

Faber was on his way to this last year and slumped this year. He has it in him to be that controlling dman but not yet

Harley is a stud has been for 2 years. He is in the ilk of petro where he just does everything great.. a true hockey number one but doesnt have the flash as some of the armchair favorites

He’s not better than Hutson
All the haters are gonna troll you for this, but it’s true.

And It’s funny how some in this thread made such a big stink over Faber not getting the respect that they think he deserves, but he got absolutely taken to school in the playoffs. He was literally what everyone said Hutson would be in the playoffs. Meanwhile Hutson was p/gp and had sterling underlying numbers and metrics.

“BuT OVi sCoReD oFF tHe DraW iN OT!!!”

Crazy how a D like Faber can have such a reputation without backing it up because he doesn’t have all the anti-Habs haters trolling the narrative constantly. But dude got absolutely caved in during the playoffs two years in a row and couldn’t muster even a single point in 6 games against VGK.

10/32, so less than a 1/3. If you give him all the maybes, which is not at all clear-cut, it’s 16/32. He’s an average to high end #2 as it stands right now.
That's fair but to me it's kinda 50/50 as Harley is trending up and is on par with some of the No teams #1 Dmen.

You don’t know what type of defenseman he is or the fact that the Wild didn’t make the playoffs last year.

Well, I know what I saw in the Vegas series, I know what his possession metrics say, I know what his analytics say, and none of it is good. I also know he only scored 29 points this year while being ass defensively. Faber was overplayed this year and is not a #1D at this time. According to his numbers, he isn’t even a good #2. The eye test backs this up as well; he looked worse than Buium out there, but he was playing like 27:00 minutes a game. He was terrible.

The possession metrics that have Harley with a 5v5 xGF% below 50% this playoffs on his main pairing?

You’re grasping at straws here. Faber has been absolutely terrible in the playoffs so far in his career. 0 points in 12 games and gets caved in defensively.

Like I said, the BS narrative that the haters said would happen to Hutson in the playoffs is actually happening to Faber, yet somehow Faber has the reputation of a top Dman to the point that people are in here arguing that Faber is somehow as good as or better than Harley.

Faber was the worst “#1D” in the playoffs, hands down.

I’m just asking you to support your argument with stats. You just spew out a bunch of nonsense that makes it clear you don’t actually watch Faber at all.

He would not be #1 on Minnesota team with spurgeom, Brodin, and Brock faber. wrong

You don't judge a player , especially Dman of Point. You're embarrasing yourself. wild wouldn't trading Brodin, Spurgeon or Faber for him. So no he wouldn't
