How many points will it take to make the playoffs? (2017-18 edition)

Us, Nashville, TBL are the only teams in the league with 20 road wins. If these guys can figure their shit out at home, we theoretically have the best schedule of anyone competing for a spot.

Freaking Colorado has 3 OT losses in a row...we need to get better at turning losses into a point.

The Kings have no one to blame but themselves if they fall out of the playoffs. The last 15 games:

3 against teams that hold comfortable spots (Min (2), Wpg)
3 against current wild card teams (NJ, Ana, Dal)
9 against teams currently out of the playoffs.

There are bubble teams involved and that could change, but still, not a difficult schedule. It's the second easiest in the conference behind Vegas. Probably why their playoff percentage is so high on sportsclubstats.

If the Kings make the playoffs they have their work cut out for them in the first round. They will get Nashville, San Jose, or Vegas.

Any time this team has put together a string of wins this season it has been due to Quick standing on his head. I don't expect that to change.

Kings are slightly better than the Sharks, and would probably beat them in a playoff series. Would be nice to get them in the first round.

I think the Kings would have a 50/50 shot against most of the Western Conference teams. Except the Preds, they'd probably kill us.

Please no. So bored with them, it's almost not worth watching.

Well, from that perspective I can agree.

Playing the Sharks these days feels a lot like playing Dallas before realignment. Just so sick of them, and they're a bland boring team.

Aside from the comeback series, San Jose owns LA.

They've played 4 total series. Kings have won 2, Sharks have won 2. I wouldn't call that ownage.

And one of the San Jose victories was the year Kopitar fooked his ankle with like 10 games to go. Thornton at least got to slide on his ass across our logo. Greatest playoff moment of his career.

I would love to see the Kings play Vegas or Nashville. Those would be fun games to watch!

Agreed, would rather see the Kings play someone new. Wouldn't mind the Ducks, but I don't feel much of a rivalry there either.

I thought you scoreboard watchers might like this little tidbit for tomorrow's game. Arizona's reported "tragic number" is 3, but it's a lie.

If you win against ARI tomorrow in regulation, then ARI (55 pts, 13 games left) will have a max total of 81 points. LAK leaps SJS to take the second slot in the Pacific with 83, and SJS locks ARI out of the Pacific with their 83.

Pacific's done, so how about the wild card? ARI's locked out of WC1 by DAL (82).

What about WC2? Currently occupied by COL (80). But, in a cruel twist of fate, ANA also has 80 points...and COL@ANA takes place on 4/1. Someone wins, and someone gets 82 points, locking ARI out of WC2...and the playoffs.

From here, it'd be nice to go 9-4-1 .......realistically, however, that won't happen. Oh well.......

I agree. Sick and tired of San Jose. I feel like the rivalry is dead because the Kings have played them so much. At one point the Sharks played the Kings 19 straight playoff games. Seven in 2012-13. Seven in 2013-14. And then five in 2015-16.

Going to nitpick here, but the five games to Chicago in 2013 broke up the San Jose games in 2013 and '14 and then the 19 other playoff games in 2014 after Round 1 occurred between the five in 2016.

Regardless, this is how the divisional playoff set up is supposed to work. I agree that I don't want to play them, but it is because they are a boring team to watch, something they weren't back in 2013 and '14.

The rivalry also seems "dead" because they've been stomping our ass for awhile now and we haven't done anything of note for three seasons. While I don't want to play them, the rivalry will kick back into gear if they do meet in the playoffs and if the Kings don't get completely outclassed like in 2016.

Sorry, I didn't explain it clearly. I was looking at it from San Jose's view. They played the Kings 19 straight playoff games. Kings obviously played other teams in 2014 and then in 2015 when they made the playoffs and San Jose didn't. San Jose lost in the second round to LA in 2013 in 7, the first round to LA in 2014 in 7, missed the playoffs in 2015, and then beat the Kings in 5 in 2016 in the first round.

I was bored of them in 2016 when the Kings played them. I just prefer not to play the same exact team every single time they make it.

I feel like Nashville shouldn't want us as a matchup if our defense stays solid and our centers are healthy. We're stronger down the middle. Their 1C is Ryan Johansen and I feel that in the playoffs, both Kopitar and a healthy Carter are better. Drew Doughty should be better than their best defenseman (probably Subban) and Quick is historically a better playoff goalie than Rinne. Their second pairing defense may kill us a bit but other than that, we are way deeper down the middle.
