Kane, Suter
Gaudreau, McDavid
Hedman, OEL, Karlsson
Kopitar

Probably missing some guys but that is all I can think of

Kopitar and maybe Josi from Europe. Nobody from Finland. Kane, Suter, maybe Pavelski, Parise and Quick from the USA. Hedman, Karlsson, Lundqvist and maybe Ekman-Larsson from Sweden. Nobody from the Czech's. Malkin, Ovechkin and maybe Tarasenko from Russia. Hard to say about McDavid from North America. We didn't take Crosby in 2006, so who knows.

Edit: Totally forgot about Gaudreau, he's a maybe, same with Backstrom.

I don't see the three swedes making it "collectively"... if that makes any sense. But they'd make it individually.

In other words : I don't think OEL makes it if Karlsson and Hedman make it as well. But if Karlsson and Hedman don't exist, OEL makes it.

The interesting question, however, is which of Hedman or Karlsson is taken first.

Bäckström?

Crosby
Malkin
Kopitar
Toews

Backstrom isn't good enough to play C and I don't think he can play winger like Bergeron and Tavares can.

Crosby/Bergeron/Toews/Price/Doughty/Tavares/Benn types 100/100 locks for TC:

Kopitar
Ovechkin
Hedman (LHD)
Tarasenko (natural winger)
Kane (natural winger)

that's it

I guess all those guys "could", but i seriously doubt Gaudreau, OEL, possibly even Karlsson would make it with this coaching/management in charge. I don't even see McDavid being given a big role if he was chosen at all.

...If anything, knowing what we know about TC, the first guy TC would poach on ANY team is probably Victor Hedman.

No way Babcock takes Karlsson. He wants defensively safe defensemen--no Subbans or Karlssons.

probably, but those guys are all 100% locks

I'm not even saying Hedman is better than Karlsson, but for TC he's more of a lock

Pavelski
Pacioretty

The only one that makes the team is Kane

On LHD there would be Hedman, EL and Josi ahead of those 2 D.

Basically, who are the 14 best forwards, 7 best defensemen, and 3 best goalies? There are plenty of guys that are at least equal to most of the players on Team Canada, it's just that Canada has more of them than other countries.

Ok, Crosby is the consensus #1 guy. After that? There's no real objective way of determining all that much. 17 of the top 30 scorers last year aren't Canadian. It's 1, 2, 3 point differences between most guys.

Is anyone going to say they couldn't make at least a decent case for a guy like Pavelski? He's got the 5th most goals over the last 2 seasons. You could make a decent case for him over some of the guys on Canada, and Canada wouldn't even miss a beat.

It'd be interesting. Suter i think would still have an outside shot, he's extremely good, and perhaps if they still think he's got some chemistry with Weber that would help, given the emphasis they've placed on familiarity/chemistry. I could also see HC dropping another RHD in favour of an extra LHD - making for 4 spots instead of just 3. But who knows.

Not surprisingly, that LHD spot is where most of the "replacements" would come. Easily the weakest part of Canada's current depth chart. Though Hedman/OEL/Josi/Suter are all fantastic players who would be more than worthy anyway...it's a strange thing to think that they'd be replacing the entire left side of the defence.

Canada needs to get to work developing some more undeniably world class LHD for future tournaments.

Nobody would make Team Canada, they are Gods. Ovechkin or Karlsson wouldn't even make Canada's C Team.
