With the news that McDavid likely suffered a high ankle sprain, which if that is the case, would likely cause him to miss a couple of months, it's pretty unlikely that he'll win the Art Ross Trophy in 2025-26. He turns 28 in two and a half months. He already has won 5 career Art Ross Trophies, in 2017, 2018, 2021, 2022 and 2023.

How many more do you think he wins in his career?

Curious....where are you getting this information? From the information I've seen, no one really knows much yet. He went back to Edmonton for evaluation and earlier this morning (Tuesday), he still hadn't arrived in Edmonton. It's currently 10:24am in Edmonton. Not saying it's not super serious and it's possible he's gone for a year for all I know, just not sure what "news" you are talking about.

hes probably done

maybe one if he digs in
Nah...that won't work, he'll need to dig the "F" in

Probably has another 3 or 4 years after this one as the favourite. I’ll say 2, but wouldn’t be surprised anywhere from 1-4 really. Would be weird to not win at least 1 more. Though most would have said that about Crosby in ‘14 or Jagr in ‘01.

It's really difficult to win after 30. I'll say he wins one more if he stays healthy next year. If not then no more. He also depends on his speed a lot more than guys like Gretzky or Lemieux.

I'm gonna say 3.

He's the type to be able to win the Art Ross while playing 70 games.

2024-25, age to start season: 27
2025-26, age to start season: 28
2026-27, age to start season: 29
2027-28, age to start season: 30

So he could miss out this year and still have three more years where he's 30 or younger and the favorite to win the Art Ross, and this is assuming he doesn't win at all in his 30's.

I wouldn’t be surprised if we see more guys staying near their peak production into their early 30s given the training today and how much softer and open the game has become. Kucherov and Panarin don’t look like they’re slowing down at all at 31 and soon to be 33.

Crosby won his last Art Ross at age 26 in 2014. And if not for injuries, good chance he would have won 2011, 2012, 2013...and he won in 2014 in a landslide....so how many people in 2014 expected that to be Crosby's last?

Jagr in 2001 wins his 4th straight Ross....5th overall....wins it with a returning Lemieux in the lineup, and Jagr looks unstoppable. Who at the end of the 2001 seasons would have predicted this would be Jagr's last? Traded, downturn, KHL, lockouts etc..and he was done.

Sometimes these things are unpredictable. With how McDavid won his historic Ross with 153 points 2 years ago, and with how great he did last year, including playoffs, most people expect him to remain the clear best in league for a while, and keep racking them up. But who knows, maybe he doesn't win another one.

He certainly seems very focused on playoff success now.

For Crosby - his regular season performances dipped a bit in 16/17/18, but his playoff performances and success were great as a result. Maybe McDavid similarly ends up doing a bit less in regular season, but goes on to win a couple of cups and maybe more smythe.

For what it's worth - I voted 2, but it'll be very interresting to see....I wouldn't be shocked to see anything from 0 to 4 moving forward.

By virtue of a spike in arbitrary and unreliable secondary assists combined with the other best players being injured or going through other challenges.

Hey, remember when you predicted 135+ point seasons for Crosby every year for like 6 consecutive years where Crosby cracked 100 points 1 time? Good times.

I know you guys like to pretend Crosby's 2014 season was some great accomplishment but it was actually one of the weakest Art Rosses (fewest primary points) of the past 3 decades.

Anyway, within a year it was pretty obvious Crosby was no longer an Art Ross contender, and that's when the utterly unsupported "Crosby is suddenly great at defense!" Canadian narrative was born.

In the future when I make a post mentionning Crosby, i'll be sure to @ you so you don't miss it. I know how much you enjoy these.

McDavid, like all the great players, measure their success with Stanley Cups. His total focus is on winning a Cup. The other trophies mean nothing to him, at this point, to his legacy. He knows (imo) that for his legacy to include him in the upper echelon of great players needs a Cup.
