Just like that, it’s about to be halfway through the season. Some teams play their 9th game this week, and sone of them are dreading having to play 9 more. There’s really no winners here, only survivors.

THURSDAY NIGHT:

Houston @ NY Jets: they keep putting the Jets on national TV. Well, sorta. This is their second Thursday game already, but they’re favored somehow given what we’ve seen? The Texans had to fight hard to beat the Colts, but they lose Stefon Diggs for the season, and still don’t have Nico Collins. Seems like it’s setting up to be ugly. Texans have not yet lost within the conference.

MAPS

Denver @ Baltimore: the Broncos have quietly gotten to 5-3, winning 5 of 6. The Ravens have also won 5 of 6, but lost last week to Jameis Winston’s spirit and soul. Broncos have also seen a lot of rookie quarterbacks, which definitely does not describe Lamar Jackson

Miami @ Buffalo: The Dolphins are in a bad way. The defense giving up 28 to Arizona last week wasn’t getting saved by Tua Tagovailoa’s return. Now they gotta go to a place they don’t win. Bills can wrap up the division this week for all intents and purposes.

LA Chargers @ Cleveland: the Browns clearly rallied behind Jameis Winston last week, and now they’re going to get the Chargers making the trip in the early window. The path is there for the Browns to make a move up if they can beat a team currently holding a playoff spot.

New Orleans @ Carolina: the Saints think they might get Derek Carr back this week. They’ve lost 6 in a row for the first time since 2005. And the Panthers probably won’t let them put up 47 again.

Chicago @ Arizona: Last week’s most exciting finish didn’t go the Bears way, giving up the Hail Mary. Now they go out to Arizona, who got a game winning field goal and lead the NFC West, even though they’re only 4-4.

Jacksonville @ Philadelphia: Doug Pederson has lasted long enough to get the return game in Philadelphia, but their record got them booted off SNF, and a bad showing here might be the end of the line. They’re in the midst of a stretch playing 5 winning teams in a row. Unlike last year, the Eagles appear to be warning to the task and getting better each week. They’re one dropped pass away from being 6-1.

IMG_7465.jpeg

Dallas @ Atlanta: the Cowboys fought back but came up just short out in San Fran last week. But it’s getting late early for them at 3-5, and on the road against a division leader.

Washington @ NY Giants: WFT pulled one out of the air last week, giving them destiny vibes. However, in their first meeting, the Giants kept them out of the end zone despite losing. The Giants offense is somehow worse at home than on the road - they’re only scored one touchdown in 4 home games.

New England @ Tennessee: could go a long way in determining the #1 pick in the draft. The Patriots have done something the Titans haven’t: beat the Jets.

Las Vegas @ Cincinnati: the Bengals are firmly out of time to figure things out, and if they can’t beat the Raiders at home, they’re not going to.

IMG_7466.jpeg

Detroit @ Green Bay: a game so big that Kevin Butkhardt and Tom Brady were assigned this instead of the Cowboys. The Lions have the top spot in the NFC, and have been looking the best that anyone alive has ever seen from them. Got people talking about Jared Goff for MVP. However, a loss to the Packers and they take over the division lead. Jordan Love is among the most entertaining QB’s in the league since he leads the NFL in touchdowns and interceptions despite missing parts or all of 4 games. Sounds like Jameson Williams is playing while legal issues play out. Should be the game of the week.

LA Rams @ Seattle: the Rams came up with a nice win, even with the missed face mask, getting up to 3-4 as they get guys back from injury. Seattle got blown out by the Bills last week, and looked pretty bad. They’ve lost 4 of 5 since starting 3-0.

SUNDAY NIGHT:

Indianapolis @ Minnesota: the Colts have been one of the main characters this week, they are benching Anthony Richardson and going to Old Man Flacco to keep their season on the rails. It’s going to be his job until he can’t do it, or decides to check out of the game on 3rd down. The Vikings have lost 2 in a row and had the half bye, definitely looking to keep pace in a tough NFC North. This game was forced into SNF. Last time these two teams played was on this field in December of 2022, when the Vikings turned around the biggest comeback in NFL history erasing a 33-0 halftime deficit to win 39-36

MONDAY NIGHT:

Tampa Bay @ Kansas City: tough draw for the Bucs, getting the undefeated 2-time defending champs on Monday night football on the road, only two weeks after playing on Monday and losing both Mike Evans and Chris Godwin. Also losing twice to Atlanta in the last 4 weeks, ceding control of the division. The Chiefs could be in look ahead mode with games against the Broncos and Bills upcoming.

It feels like my season is already over. Huge Cowboys fan. When your team is the worst in the league at running the ball AND the worst in the league at stopping the run, then the season is over. I’m waiting for 1 more embarrassing loss, to see, if that will be the day they fire Mike and company.

Honestly, who would take the Dallas job?

Johnson and Swolik are the top 2 guys, with Johnson the #1 guy. Going to pick a spot with a good QB and upside on the team. Is that Dallas?

In terms of teams with QB that could make a coaching move. Jax has Lawrence, but if Pederson failed, who can help him? Cincy if they miss the PO, likely ends Taylor. But, owner is cheap so always going to be issues getting guys signed so have to be prepared to deal with that. But, you have Burrow.

Anyone else, I don't love the QB situation. Miami, Tua is a regular hit away from retirement. Barring Chicago fading down the stretch and missing, they would probably be right at the top in terms of openings. Giants/Jets/Raiders/Browns, and add any other, only 1 or 2 of them will be in position to draft a QB. And it's overall not a great QB class.

Jerry Jones is senile at this stage of his life. He’s making no sense now when he speaks. Who wouldn’t want to be the head coach should be the question. Although with Jerry and his boy running the team the way they do, that list does shrink significantly. There would still be many that would take that job in heart beat.

For sure. Question is whether they get a great candidate or not.

Jerry Jones, as predicted, has followed in the footsteps of Al Davis.

In addition, Dallas fans are reliving the end of the Tom Landry era. Except that no one is going to kick Jerrah to the curb.

He's reached the Al Davis stage of senile now, although Stephen Jones does have some football sense, Mark Davis has none and just wants to make money.

Stephen Jones is not crazy, but he is incompetent. Stephen is the guy who handles their contracts and is why the Cowboys have flubbed two Dak extensions in a row by timing them improperly. He's also the one who chased away two different pass rushers the same off-season by flubbing negotiations with how he tried to insert some guarantee recapture language at the last second.

Cowboys coach is a bad and thankless job, but there are still reasons to take it.
- There are only 32 of these jobs, and it pays incredibly well. The pay jump from coordinator to head coach makes the job worth taking for money alone.
- Jerry Jones doesn't fire coaches, so you're going to see the end of your contract.
- Being Cowboys coach is still the brightest spotlight in the NFL. Look at Jason Garrett. He wasn't a good coach and has zero TV skill, yet he still has been on TV and will for years making a good living solely because networks want to hire anyone who was a Cowboy.

Can anyone explain to me why the 2-6 Jets are favored over the 6-2 Texans tonight? Is it because the Jets are at home and the Texans are alittle banged up? I'm trying to make sense of this.

you may not have heard, but Rodgers has discovered the fountain of youth recently, so bet against the Jets at your own risk
Man, that's just such a weird thing to say when you're having your worst season to date and your team is 2-6.

Can I attribute my youthful looks and spirits to that I put cayenne pepper and water when I make my shitty vegetarian version of pasta bolognese?

I follow the NFL Stock Exchange YouTube channel to keep a general tab on prospects before the draft, and I recently realized that one of those guys is a big Jets fan. It's quite the experience watching his enjoyment of scouting prospects, compared to his apoplectic Jets podcasts.

It's really funny that Joe Flacco stopped being a starter in 2018, and now for the second season in a row he's being asked to save a team's season.
