Many athletes and celebrities are good. See above. Steph Curry has a 2 handicap. Glavine, Maddux, and Smoltz are all good.As far as golf goes, I really don't care what you call it. I've been playing my whole life and I've tee'd it up with "athletes" from all different sports and they usually just embarrass themselves. For a "game" that apparently doesn't require "athletic ability" people sure seem to suck at it. My buddy played minor league hockey, begged me to play with him, whiffed three times and then pouted in the cart the rest of the round.

Do you say the same about cheerleading?!?!I find the people that don't think golf is a sport are the ones that are terrible it. May be a coincidence but that's what I have noticed. Take what you want from that.
The best part about golf IMO is that you are really battling against yourself. Everything is in your control for the most part. If you find that as a negative for the sport (or game in your opinion) doesn't make it less of a sport. Just makes it all that much unique.
No matter how much practice, training can't make you into a pro. I find a dividing point between a game and sport to be whether if an average joe can pick up the game/sport and with practice and training be as good as a pro. In golf, this is not the case.
Just my two cents. Cheers!

Golf in the United States is a $70 billion annual industry with 24.1 million players. ... Opponents say that golf better meets the definition of "game" than "sport," does not require rigorous physical activity, and can be played professionally by people who are overweight, injured, or non-athletic.
Is Golf a Sport? - ProCon.org
golf.procon.org/
Sport is generally recognised as system of activities which are based in physical athleticism or physical dexterity, with the largest major competitions such as the Olympic Games admitting only sports meeting this definition,[3] and other organisations such as the Council of Europe using definitions precluding activities without a physical element from classification as sports.[2] However, a number of competitive, but non-physical, activities claim recognition as mind sports. The International Olympic Committee (through ARISF) recognises both chess and bridge as bona fide sports, and SportAccord, the international sports federation association, recognises five non-physical sports: bridge, chess Pictures of Chess, draughts (checkers), Go, and xiangqi,[4][5] and limits the number of mind games which can be admitted as sports.[1]
If you were responding to my post (you didn't quote anyone so I have no idea), I think you're confusing my stance on what is/isn't a sport. I was just responding to ix's comment saying that he only considers a sport a sport if you "need to be in shape". You don't have to be in shape to play at a high level in baseball. I don't personally believe that you need to be in shape in order for it to be considered a sport.
Let's think what golf is
You line up and swing a stick at a ball. Then you walk to the ball. Then you swing again.
It's a competitive activity. But it's not a sport.

What kind of physical exertion or training goes into trying to hitting a ball 4 times into a hole? You're skilled if you do that. But does it make you an athlete?
