How in the world did Reinhart not get recognized as MVP/top forward?

Sam is a "what if" player for me, aka what if someone else would have been in his spot? He plays the game so right he makes everyones job easier. Reinhart to me is the best example of valueable, he might not be super flashy but everything he does is right. If hockey was a test hed be a 99% student. Sorry to rant but this tournament was my first time seeing him, and i have to say it was a privilege watching him play.

Reinhart was my pick as well, but whatever. I'm sure that his gold medal will help him feel a little bit better about the whole situation.

Reinhart was the best player in the tournament and he did everything for his team, but its not surprising. Domi was dynamic and its not like he's undeserving of recognition. The award is not a big deal.

I love the point someone else made that its fitting that Reinhart's linemate got the MVP - he makes everybody else around him better. That theme may be the story of Reinhart's career, especially if Buffalo ends up drafting McEichel. He may be the Sabres most important player for a long time, but he won't get the same recognition as the flashier players.

One of the best two way performances we've seen at the WJC ever. Up there with Bergeron. By far the best player, IMO. But awards are based primarily on offence.

Well, to be fair, Reinhart did lead the entire tournament in offence so your point kinda falls on it's face.

With that being said, I think Reinhart deserves the award for playing a near flawless tournament and making his line-mates that much better!

Reinhart made Domi mvp imho. Reinhart was not as flashy, but the way he plays gave Domi's speed and skills the chance to shine.

Exactly this. Reinhart is definitely a special player and my pick for mvp as well.

I disagree.
If you just focus on offence you can argue that Domi scored the big goals when it mattered the most. At best it's a toss up.
When you throw in two way play it's Reinhart easily.

Reinhart had every offensive stat though. Tied for the lead in points (ahead of Domi), tied for the lead in goals (but had 3 GWG, which led the tournament), and was the only player to get a point in every game, whereas Domi didn't record one in either the QF or SF.

Honestly, I just don't get it. I don't understand the argument for Domi over Reinhart, even if you just look at offense. I don't see the "grey area" people are talking about where they think it could have gone to either one; Reinhart was undeniably better.

Ultimately it doesn't matter in the long run, but it would be nice if they could get the accolades to those that truly deserved it.

You and I are in full agreement.
I think Reinhhart had one of those WJC that we'll look back at as historic. One for the ages. In the end I'm sure the Gold Medal is all that counts but it was one fo the easiest MVP decisions I've ever seen.

Bergeron in 2005 ( having already won the Senior WC's at 18) led TC in scoring ( if memory serves ) by a sizeable margin, and although he's best known now for taking crucial faceoffs inside the defensive zone, and for being a great two way player with the most emphasis on shutting down the other team's top scorers, in Grand Forks, paired with Crosby and Perry, he was mainly focusing on the attack!!!! Don't think he was quite Reinhart-esque at that age...
