More to the point, I think Canada likes physical defensemen. If he played equally well defensively without being physical (like a Lidstrom type), he wouldn't have gotten much consideration.Wasn't on the ice for an ES goal while physically beating the other teams top lines to death might have something to do with it. He didn't get points but he wasn't on any powerplays if thats how you judge a defensemen.
Seriously, that was a travesty. Most consistent player in all facets of the game.

He was seen plenty. Domi was just a bit better. It isn't overly complicated. Domi created a ton of chances all by himself.
I thought Nurse had an excellent game as well. It does seem a little strange for a defenceman to get the award in a 5-4 game but neither he nor Theodore were on for an ES goal the whole tourney. And Nurse was a rock in the third period when Canada was nursing a one goal lead. Just a great performance!
That had to have been intentional
To the thread, does anyone know Reinharts faceoff percentage throughout the tourney? Can't find it anywhere and i want to say its north of 65%.
Reinhart was more useful/effective, but Domi was more visible. The bigger question is how Nurse got awarded after showing some pretty horrible hockey, although pretty much all of the d-men were "meh" the entire tournament. It's a good thing they didn't have to be anything more than mediocre for the stretch run.
He is 5th on the team, 14th overall.
1 LAZAR 70.00
6 GAUTHIER 62.64
7 McDAVID 61.67

Not as good as Domi. Pretty simple.

Reinhart had more points, a better +/-, 3 game winning goals to Domi's none, same amount of goals on less shots and was the only Canadian to have a point in all tournament games.
I'm betting that Gathier's percentage was higher. That guy, and that line ( man that Crouse kid @17=smthg special!!! ) were TC's somewhat unsung hero's. If, IF ONLY #22 wasn't so inept at finishing. Crouse sent him in all alone, plus he got set up bout 3 feet from Sorokin, made a mess of em both.
Big , Physical , positionally stellar, and defensively excellent ...Gauthier...where glorious scoring chances go to die![]()
God love em...
Leafs fans definitely will, for many years to come...

Someone else said it - this was a vote for a Torontonian by Toronto. If his name wasn't Domi then he would not have won this award. Reinhart was CLEARLY the better player in the tournament and in the final, in fact I thought that there were several players like Petan and McDavid who were consistently better than Domi and brought more to the team than Domi did.
Somewhat misleading, considering he won almost 3x more faceoffs than Lazar. He took the most draws in the tournament and was taking them at important times against other top centers.
Reinhart was by the best player in my eyes. But not nearly as flashy as Domi

I thought Gauthier was excellent when it mattered for Canada in the final. He is ( NOT )a good finisher, just had some bad luck early and then looked nervous. His defensive faceoffs were key.
Still, Duclair missed some WAY more glorious chances in the tournament, but his goal in the final more than made up for it. He's going to be a fantastic NHL'er.
For all the talk about Domi versus Reinhart, you'd actually think they gave it Domi or Reinhart. They didn't. It went to Godla, and the fact is that as good as ANY Team Canada player was, Godla was far more key to his country's success. Slovakia shouldn't have been anywhere near a medal in this tournament, but thanks largely (though not entirely) to him, Slovakia now has their second medal at the WJC. Well deserved in my books.
Hufflepuff? Hufflepuff? No, dude. He's a Ravenclaw.classic case of slytherin > hufflepuff
