How in the world did Reinhart not get recognized as MVP/top forward?

Reinhart's performance reminded me of Teravainen's. Obviously Reinhart wasn't as important to Canada as Teuvo was to Finland but Reinhart was the best player in the tournament this year imo.

Wasn't on the ice for an ES goal while physically beating the other teams top lines to death might have something to do with it. He didn't get points but he wasn't on any powerplays if thats how you judge a defensemen.
More to the point, I think Canada likes physical defensemen. If he played equally well defensively without being physical (like a Lidstrom type), he wouldn't have gotten much consideration.

Seriously, that was a travesty. Most consistent player in all facets of the game.

WOW just learning that now...Good Question...even in Montreal when Domi was being picked as Game MVP, and with the crowd chanting his name, Reinhard was unquestionably better ( the straw that stirred TC's drink, but likewise the #1 line's defensive conscience ) that game...

I thought Nurse had an excellent game as well. It does seem a little strange for a defenceman to get the award in a 5-4 game but neither he nor Theodore were on for an ES goal the whole tourney. And Nurse was a rock in the third period when Canada was nursing a one goal lead. Just a great performance!

Reinhart would have been a good candidate, he had a great tourney. I think Domi's dynamism was a huge factor for Canada though, and he was a worthy choice.

3 points in the gold medal game carries some weight too.

That had to have been intentional

To the thread, does anyone know Reinharts faceoff percentage throughout the tourney? Can't find it anywhere and i want to say its north of 65%.

Reinhart was more useful/effective, but Domi was more visible. The bigger question is how Nurse got awarded after showing some pretty horrible hockey, although pretty much all of the d-men were "meh" the entire tournament. It's a good thing they didn't have to be anything more than mediocre for the stretch run.

Nurse was simply stellar in the 3rd period, with the Gold still up for grabs...

Reinhart was the best player in the tournament. MVP (to his team) was either Reway or Godla.

I'm betting that Gathier's percentage was higher. That guy, and that line ( man that Crouse kid @17=smthg special!!! ) were TC's somewhat unsung hero's. If, IF ONLY #22 wasn't so inept at finishing. Crouse sent him in all alone, plus he got set up bout 3 feet from Sorokin, made a mess of em both.

Big , Physical , positionally stellar, and defensively excellent ...Gauthier...where glorious scoring chances go to die :sarcasm::D

God love em...

Leafs fans definitely will, for many years to come...

Reinhart had more points, a better +/-, 3 game winning goals to Domi's none, same amount of goals on less shots and was the only Canadian to have a point in all tournament games.

Someone else said it - this was a vote for a Torontonian by Toronto. If his name wasn't Domi then he would not have won this award. Reinhart was CLEARLY the better player in the tournament and in the final, in fact I thought that there were several players like Petan and McDavid who were consistently better than Domi and brought more to the team than Domi did.

I thought Gauthier was excellent when it mattered for Canada in the final. He is a good finisher, just had some bad luck early and then looked nervous. His defensive faceoffs were key.

Still, Duclair missed some WAY more glorious chances in the tournament, but his goal in the final more than made up for it. He's going to be a fantastic NHL'er.

He is 5th on the team, 14th overall.

1 LAZAR 70.00
6 GAUTHIER 62.64
7 McDAVID 61.67
8 PETAN 61.54
14 REINHART 57.94

Somewhat misleading, considering he won almost 3x more faceoffs than Lazar. He took the most draws in the tournament and was taking them at important times against other top centers.

Reinhart was by the best player in my eyes. But not nearly as flashy as Domi

I thought Reinhart deserved it, imho, but Domi was great, too. Many players on Team Canada were this tourney, which is why they won, I guess.

If that was the case then the MVP award doesn't mean anything.

Domi was like an action hero in a movie. A few times I thought his back was going to give out with all of the unnatural positions he was in while shooting or passing.

I agree that Reinhart was better overall.

maybe he is a good finisher against inferior opposition for his club team, BUT he is NOT, repeat NOT, a good finisher at this level, and won't be in the NHL either...

TSN did a little piece featuring Gauthier where he tacitly admitted he needs to work on his finishing, and he surely does...It's a glaring weakness at this level...Gauthier TWO years playing for Team Canada's U20's, NO GOALS, set up plenty of times, only forward on TC who didn't pot at least one this year...

No surprise to me...I mentioned this about him...before this tourney began...as did others...not a great skater either. Although he does seem to have improved his skating somewhat over last year...Doesn't mean he's not an effective/good player...he is

Duclair did indeed miss more glorious chances than Gauthier, considerably more , but he also generated tons of offense. set his team mates up, plus he didn't totally mess up their glorious set ups, having many MANY NEAR MISSES , not to mention potting his share of goals ( again in stark contrast to Gauthier... )

For all the talk about Domi versus Reinhart, you'd actually think they gave it Domi or Reinhart. They didn't. It went to Godla, and the fact is that as good as ANY Team Canada player was, Godla was far more key to his country's success. Slovakia shouldn't have been anywhere near a medal in this tournament, but thanks largely (though not entirely) to him, Slovakia now has their second medal at the WJC. Well deserved in my books.

In all fairness both Reinhart and Domi stood out but also dominated ice time. I felt Reinhart was the best Canadian player followed by Domi.
Don't have a problem with the decision.

Reway was every bit as important to SVK's success as Godla imo, and Godla, for all his incredible acrobatics/highight reel goals, let in plenty of weak ones. Really, Fucale played better, considerably better, than Godla did. But Fucale certainly wasn't Canada's MVP

The best team, team Canada, doesn't win Gold without their + the Tourney's rightful imo MVP=REINHART
