I'm sure this will be an unpopular take, but I'd consider moving Pinto this summer. Greig can take his spot at 3LC next year.

I don't see this current roster as one that can deep in the playoffs. Pinto is a piece that if he is going to remain on the 3L here, he could be potentially moved for a top 6 scoring winger.

As I said, sure to be unpopular.

Yeah that's a really bad take. That 3rd line was what got us in the playoffs. If you want to improve the top 6, trade someone in the top 6.

3rd line C can fill in admirably at second line Center for a short time.

He’s not good enough with the puck to be top 6 Center full time and doesn’t have a stand out offensive trait either

I think he will develop into a 2nd line centre within a couple years which allows Greig to take over as 3LC and Cozens to move over to wing.

I wouldn't be against that Chabot makes way too many mistakes for a guy in his position at his salary who has been in the league as long as he has & he's already lost the top spot to Sanderson. I doubt they would trade both though, so I would rather trade the older LD who is not going to get better, but worse with age not to mention injuries. I think it would be a huge mistake to re-sign him with Yak coming.
Signing Jensen would depend on the term and AAV starting in 2026-27. It also depends on what other D they might be able sign as a UFA or acquire in a trade this summer.

I wouldn’t pencil Jensen in for an extension. I’d like to find a decent 4/5 RD who can take minutes this summer.

I would like to find a physical RD who would play 3RD next season. Matinpalo would be #7 D. Jensen would remain as Rd for Chabot.

He’s had to play against two of the better centres in the league for almost every minute of his icetime.

I think he’s precisely the kind of guy you are going to need to go far in the playoffs.

Pinto had the most goals of any Senator since late December. If he continues this next year and becomes a 30-35 goal scorer I think he could, in the future, be classified as a second line centre. But if we have cup aspirations having him as a great third line centre would be ideal.

Pinto also has a really good overall game. He reads the play really well and has great situational awareness all over the ice. For example when he has the puck and his line needs a change he will hold onto it, draw the other teams players towards him and then put the puck in a position where the next offensive line can take advantage. When he is in the defensive zone and the other team is cycling the puck he anticipates really well and knows when to break up a pass or let it go.

I think we all have loved the Greig-Pinto-Amadio line from a defensive standpoint and Pinto is a really key component.

I forgot that Pinto had career highs in goals, assists and points.

He's probably going to explode next year in a contract season

He looked like he was reaching new levels until he got hurt.

Really if he got PP time (or if he was good on the PP, because to be fair he wasn’t great on it when he got time this season), his point totals would look more impressive. 5v5 he generates a lot.

If he works on his finishing and his shot accuracy increases, I see no reason why he wouldn’t be a strong 2C, especially if that leads him into more offensive opportunities.

I hope he does; I don't expect a big explosion; more like a small increase because his offensive skills are not high enough and his skating is not fast enough. I see him as a 3C who can sub as a 2C when required.

Everyone thought it was an overpay when I wanted them to do 5Mx8 the last time. Let's see what he gets on an extension with the cap rising. I'm guessing between 6-7M / year.

They should absolutely sign Pinto to a long term deal sooner rather than later when he will cost more.

Like a less physical Mike Fisher.

I think, like Fisher, he has a bit of tunnel vision. Great shot. North-south player.

But he doesn't have fishers physicality, and neither were great playmakers.

But like Fisher, he can Excell at 3C shut down role shadowing the other teams star center.

Also go look at fishers production age for age and it's very similar.

Since age 21:

Fisher 58-15-9-24
Pinto 82-20-15-35

Fisher 74-18-20-38
Pinto 41-9-18-27

Fisher 24-4-6-10
Pinto 70-21-16-37

Fisher 68-22-22-44
Pinto ??????

Fisher 68-22-24-46
Pinto ??????

If we get 50-55 pts pace from him over the next 2 years while being really good defensively, are we happy with his development?
