He made a great play stealing the puck in the 3rd , out skated I think it was Letang , beat the goalie but not the post... fine line between winning and losing this one.

Right now when everyone is playing Ott is a three line team, the defence & goaltending is okay, but they need a much better 4th line to contribute something to this team. I'm not sure we have the players in the org to create a better 4th line or the coach/GM don't think so since they keep playing these same guys. They really need to upgrade the 4th line this summer.

Tkachuk - Stutzle - Giroux
Perron - Cozens - Batherson
Greig - Pinto - Amadio

Well, the implied 4th line based on what you've posted is:

Cousins-???-Zetterlund that seems like a pretty competitive start to me.

That question mark is one of Highmore, Gaudette, or Crookshank based on the current roster, but MacEwen or Reinhardt could get a call up.

Cousins is pacing at 23 pts this year, that's solid 4th line production, and he adds the grit and hard to play against mentality you want in a 4th liner.

Zetterlund probably doens't belong on a 4th line, but he's pacing at 40pts, forchecks well, and can throw some hits. They'll eventually start going in for him. If he's on your 4th, that's not a position you need to upgrade.

For the last spot Highmore is a PK option, so he'd get nod if it were up to me, Crookshank is speedy and tenacious but more of a offensive minded guy, Gaudette feels like a mismatch for 4th line duties and the shine has come off since his hot start. MacEwen looked good early in the season, adds toughness, but is probably more of a 13th fwd.

I don't think we desperately need to upgrade the 4th line so much as we need to upgrade our 13th fwd and call up options. Not saying an upgrade isn't a way to go about that, if we were to get a really good 4th line center, that would push the guys we currently have down a spot and be a defacto upgrade on the 13th forward and call ups as well.

There's no options to fill the 4th with. Maybe Crookshank, maybe Jenik. But those are big maybes. Halliday is not even a maybe right now. So until Cousins gets back, it's Highmore. MacEwan wouldn't even be able to improve upon Highmore, he's pretty limited. Gaudette is the 4th line center whether we like it or not for this year.

That's why I said they need to upgrade this summer.

We're 21-1-1 when Pinto records a point. Hopefully no more cold streaks for him like at the start of the season

If he is going to reach higher heights, he is going to have to improve his skating. Acceleration and first few steps need a lot of work

The defence is way too soft, we need some jam back there, we should move Jensen this summer to free up $4 mil. He will be 35 before next season.

if we lose Jensen we might as well trade Chabot.

We finally have a partner for Chabot that works (when he’s healthy) and we’re going to toss him?

I get that he’s old but I’d sign him for one more year or two years without NMC if we can get a better deal.

I wouldn't be against that Chabot makes way too many mistakes for a guy in his position at his salary who has been in the league as long as he has & he's already lost the top spot to Sanderson. I doubt they would trade both though, so I would rather trade the older LD who is not going to get better, but worse with age not to mention injuries. I think it would be a huge mistake to re-sign him with Yak coming.

Pinto tops put at a very good #3 C, can be a 2nd in a pinch IMO.
If we consider what will Ottawa do when Giroux & Perron retire which IMO is not that far way there is a potential answer. We could move Cozens to RW to replace Giroux on that Line & move up Pinto & Greig to replace Cozens & Perron on that line. They are after all the next best players on the roster.

They could also use their money to buy a couple of guys from free agency, but we have not had a lot of luck with that in the past & the way the cap continues to increase it's likely we could only afford one player. Some might think Zetterlund could take one of those spots & it's possible however all I have seen so far from him is a potential 3rd line player at best.

This leaves Ottawa to rebuild there bottom six & maybe with that money they might be able to put more money into the bottom six & improve it dramatically. I think Halliday could be a 3rd line C & Zetterlund on one of the wings so we could be two thirds of the way & we need to build an entire 4th line which is not that expensive. I'm not sure Zetterlund & Halliday have the capacity to become as good as Greig & Pinto have been & they will need 3rd line scoring.

Greig - Pinto - Batherson
Zetterlund - Halliday - Amadio

Pinto has been unbelievable the second half of the season. It's hard to put a clear rank on him in terms of 1C/2C/3C because in terms of two-way play he's probably our most well-rounded Center but in terms of offensive production he's shown to be a 3C thus far but I expect he'll produce at a 25g pace next season and hopefully around 45pts while also leading the forward group in minutes played on occasion. Very happy to have him.
