How does Paul Bissonnette have a platform?

He's actually grown quite a bit. You should have heard him in the early days of Spittin' Chiclets. My wife would cringe hard at how he talked about women and his sexual exploits. He's toned that down quite a bit.

Hate him or love him, I think he's good for the game. Why? Because he's entertaining and isn't completely one-dimensional as so many other hockey insiders tend to be. By all means, if you want to hear some boring ol' white dude wax poetic about the fundamentals and boring stat lines, there are plenty of those left for you to watch and listen to. If you want some personality and pizzazz, then Biz is your guy. I think he is a critical piece in getting new fans to become interested in the sport.

It’s so weird when people ask why person x is successful. It’s obvious, he has a platform because he has found a way to cater to a certain demographic that finds him entertaining or informative.

Yeah, that tweet is pretty tasteless. But watching a game I’ve said some pretty stupid shit myself, so has the majority of people. Obvious caveat being as an ambassador of the sport Biz should be held to a higher standard, but how grounded he is with us as fans is part of his appeal and allure.

Personally, I love the candidness of Biz and Whit and the inside looks of the national hockey league. It’s cool learning about the inner workings, like the players putting money on the board every game for staff, equipment managers, special occasions, etc.

Biz gives more to the game and it’s fans than he takes away. That is why he has a platform.

thing is I never even knew the guy's name though I heard of Spittin Chiclets before it was basically Ryan Whitney and the other guys lol

he grew his brand in the social media world it's the thing our generations do now I guess

Hockey fans usually cry about how there’s no personality in the game(I personally don’t give two sh*ts) but when someone like Biz gets a gig it’s a problem all of a sudden. The talking heads on that panel are pretty meh(Gretzky is awful) so Biz is a nice change of pace.

Knew this thread would be about that tweet.

Biz even followed it up with another tweet after the game, with all this glowing praise for Otter after a hard-fought series, and every other response was in reference to that original tweet.

Of course his response to this was to basically tell people to **** off.

Great guy.

I recently watched one of those reaction videos to someone somehow listening to Crazy Train the first time, and the reactor said “Did Ozzy steal the intro from Trick Daddy?”

Based on the number of comments he got shitting all over him, I think that’s exactly the point of saying something so stupid.

I've always been divided on him. That tweet is horrible but on the other hand his post game interview with Andrew Copp was legitimately funny and he was interviewing someone who I've never seen smile or show emotion before.

I was a fan of Chiclets pre-Biz and didn't like it when he first joined permanently but he has grown on me for the same reason he did well in the Copp interview. He is very self-deprecating, he rips on himself and his own career almost non-stop and in the hockey world that is apparently one of the few ways to get these guys to open up and show any sort of personality.

Guy is a whole ass man child. Even on TNT, he's so damn cringy and awkward. Definition of a punching bag.

He tweets like a 13 year old boy. Hoping on a bandwagon whoever plays the Ranger. Seeing a grown man cry is pretty funny I must say. Guy is a tool.

Easy: hockey culture has always celebrated the kind of player he was + he plays into the same dude bro culture a guy like Joe Rogan does.

Mix the two and you get a very loyal audience.

Yeah it's very much a mix of Barstool/Joe Rogan bro culture. People like that I guess. The more inflammatory and shock value you are today the bigger you'll get.

The irony is that you don't know the answer to this when the very act of you creating this thread explains why Paul Bissonette has a platform.
