How do you improve the Wings?

Get Pat Maroon to round out that 4th line. Always loved Maroon. Big, tough, can handle himself and take care of others when they're running at Larking and Raymond.

Chicago's going nowhere. Waive Fischer, trade for Maroon. Raz and Elmer become instantly tougher with Maroon on their line. And, Maroon can actually play.

Elmer - Raz - Maroon

That's a 4th line right there.

Not sure where else to put it, , but Bultman hada nice quote from Todd on Aljo last night saying he's been the biggest positive surprise for him on the entire roster.

Obviously nice when the coaches comments match our eye test!
He and Edvidsson have great chemistry and therefore he looks much better. But Petry looked better with Edvidsson too.
Seider and Chiarot don't have the chemistry, but it is not bad as it was before. In addition they are both physical and that makes up a lot for chemistry.

Chiarot had five good games under McLellan and has turned into garbage again. Seider is playing some of the best hockey I've ever seen and their pairing is still just okay because Chiarot belongs in a Siberian gulag. I'm back in the "we desperately need a LD like Jake Walman" camp.

A write up by Tony reflecting that now the wings cupboard is filling up, it may time to make some trades, I think it is a tad early, but if the right deal comes along, I think SY will pounce on it.

I don't think he will make any major moves at TDL to improve the odds of playoffs this year, but interesting to see the writers taking note.

I think it’s best to start now. Show the room were serious.

Wallinder is the most valuable expendable prospect. Berggren, Veleno and Ras have some value as more than just throw ins. (Though they might make for an OK 4th line)

Roster pieces that can go for nothing: Copp, Holl, Compher (lower priority but he’s been bad), Chiarot, Petry, Gus, Fischer, Motte, Husso, Tank.

This team needs to get rid of at least half of them. There are maybe 3 internal replacements (Mazur, Danielson, Cossa) for these guys. Maybe 4 depending on Buium’s camp next year. I think ASP and Buch get another year in the minors.

The piss poor FA class this season so we need to give to get, otherwise 2026 will be another year picking 6 to 10.
This is not a great draft past 10-12, and the 2nd round is thinner than Bench’s hairline. I’m fine with moving picks for actual roster players that can be of use. A 13th overall pick in 2025 probably has the same quality as the 25th overall pick in 2023. But it WOULD get a top 4 defenseman. That 2nd round pick could also get some improved scoring depth for the. 3rd line.

I was scanning the Wings stats yesterday, and saw that we have only 3 players whose +/- are in the black. Those are Edvinsson, who is a team leading +8, and Copp and Compher, who are both +2. DeBrincat is the worst on the team at -14. Of the guys you want to get rid of for nothing, Copp, Compher, Chiarot, or Tank might bring something back - thr rest are either untradable or giveaways.

+/- is an overrated stat. It's a team stat. No one would ever say Copp or Compher have value anywhere near Debrincat.

Soderblom Larkin Raymond
Cat Kasper Kane
Rasmussen Danielson Berggren
Veleno Fischer Motte
? Seider
Edvinsson AJo
Chiarot Petry
Pretty much , we just need first line defansman. Id trade our first + for that.
Third line minutes in NHL will give much more to Danielson than first AHL line center.

It's not the time to be trading firsts. We still have time to develop top picks while the current core is still coming online also there is outside chance that first is a top 5.

How likely do people think it is one of ASP or Buchelnikov (or both) are on the opening night roster next year?

I feel like with the ages of Kane and Tarasenko there’s a real chance Buchelnikov could step into the top 6 next year.

Not out of the question for either. I do think ASP requires the right partner from outside of the organization though.

Honestly Buch is interesting because I'm not sure that he'll want to play in the AHL. So I think there's a really good chance that he starts next year with us.

ASP I would bet spends at least half a season in GR. We held Ed down last year when he was clearly, inarguably better than 2/3 of the guy's on the team. We're still an over-ripening team and I think ASP is a classic example of someone that can benefit from that.

60% chance Buch makes it.
20% chance ASP does.
We'll assume that they're independent (though I suspect one making it decreases the other's odds slightly) and so it's 12% of both.

ASP will make the team next season it's not even a question.

If you've watched the way Detroit operates with prospects over the last, oh... 15 years? You know it's absolutely a question lol.

Still the same management group that held Edvinsson in the AHL until March last season, and sent Kasper down to start the year, despite the pre-season he had.

I am skeptical that either make the jump right away but it isn't impossible.

For Buchelnikov to be in north America at all would require him getting out of his KHL contract.

I'm guessing he doesn't agree to do that unless he's assured as spot on the big team. The pay cut would be immense in the AHL.

I can see Ed as a good partner, but that leaves us looking for someone to pair with Mo. I say that as someone who does not want to run Chiarot back in that spot next season and does not trust Aljo with that responsibility (although I have been happy with his play over the last dozen games). In my eyes at a minimum, we need one, above league average middle pair defensemen from outside of the organization.

Any news on how long Petry is out?? Adam boqvist on waivers ,former top 10 pick ... doubt he'd even make it to us. If dubas was smart hed make a claim since every pens player is like 35 lol

I don't buy that Edvinsson was in the AHL too long and Kasper, playing 2 games in the AHL, isn't the example you think it is.

Overall you are right though. This organization prefers its prospects develop in the AHL.

Id be surprised to see either Buch or ASP make the jump straight into the NHL

He was NHL ready at the end of 22-23 and got held out most of 23-24 because they didn't expect him to be ready out of camp and oversigned D.

Kasper being sent back down kinda is the example I think it is. He should've made the team out of camp. Just because they quickly recognized their mistake doesn't mean it's not evidence of their mentality.

ASP I'd be surprised. Buch I wouldn't. If he doesn't come until 2026 he's obviously NHL ready. If he has his KHL contract terminated, it won't be to make AHL money.

He's been on 3 teams in 6 years for a reason. Defender that can't defend.

That'll happen when you rush a defenseman (Especially a small one) into the NHL at 19.
