How do you fix the Wings?

Just in thinking about the numbers...

Is there enough cap space to make something work where Detroit gets both Marner and Tavares, but Toronto eats half of JT's salary?

I'm not even sure I'd be interested. Just doodling with the dollar signs. (And assuming Marner would get extended at a tolerable number.)

That would be $16.4M coming here, which would mean there would still need to be at least some salary heading back to Toronto (plus several pending free agents not returning) to have any chance of also getting Seider and Raymond extended to proper deals. (Which is more important than adding anybody. I mean, JT only has one year left, so deals for the kids could be structured with one cheap year and then the number balloons up. But keeping both of them on good deals far outweighs any other moves.)

Maybe Husso hits LTIR and Holl goes back to the Leafs? But at that point, what else goes to Toronto to give them reason to make the deal (other than freeing up that much cap space)?

Just a thought experiment.
Honestly...gross

Raymond playing now and of course his center was taken by Hurricanes and we skipped him 3 times in the second last draft

It's OK, because we got Cleveland.

Also, lol as far as the Marner proposals. They would literally lynch Trevling if he agreed to any of these proposals, especially anything involving Copp. Compher and Copp are not players the Leafs need, especially given their cap situation. Any trade would involve Danielson/ASP plus 1st plus a cheap roster guy, and Stevie isn't doing that.

Any trade situation, you need the look from the other viewpoint. Ask yourself what does Toronto need? I didn't watch the playoff series, but I assume they're looking for a PMD (Klingberg and Muzzin are UFA), goalie (Samsonov and Murray are UFA), Bert/Domi replacement (both UFA), and upgrades over Reaves (with someone that can actually play hockey) and Jarnkrok (with someone that can actually defend).

If they decide to blow it up by selling Tavarres and Marner, they'll want building blocks. I see absolutely no situation where Toronto would want Copp/Compher.

I know I'll get backlash but if Dubois gets bought out ... sign him . One year deal only

He'll likely want to prove Last seasons disaster was a one off and he can still play. He'll want to secure another long contract so wed benefit for that one year and if it's not good enough to get us in the playoffs hes trade bait

Whether he plays amazing or not we walk away after a year , I'd never commit longterm to him

Good lord no

He is the definition of a waste of space...he has quit on every team and franchise he's ever played for...

He has the talent, size and skills though. And he should be motivated with everyone shitting on him. One year deal, one and done I'd do it
And the same has been said about Mantha with each new team he goes to. Some guys just never figure it out. (I don't know if Dubois is a foregone conclusion in that department. Just that it's possible that he will never click with anybody.)

Edit: looks like Dubois is staying put in LA.

Agreed. And I would've been shocked if they bought him out. The Kings would be taking a cap hit from the buyout for 14 years.

Larkin, Seider, Raymond and possibly Cossa and ASP. Sure we have other pisses Danielson, Edvinsson, Kasper and Mazur, nothing is great, but is it enough to compete for cup? We need to draft better outside first round , don't buy out Aby , same thime give bad contracts, like Copp and Holl

LOL I always love when these conversations come down to, let's just get [[insert one of the best players in the NHL in their prime]] :)
Well, the only reason he's brought up is the fact that he's being (seemingly) run out of town and has the ability to control his destiny. Detroit is relatively close to his hometown and could be a viable option if he's willing to waive. Big if there.

Every time I think about who to sign if not Kane, I think Teravainen. Not too old, has speed, good defensively, wouldn't be too expensive, and would provide 50 points.

Is he a ginger-beard and did he go to UM? Could be triplets!

I watched the game Florida vs Boston. The score was 3-1 Bruins and the Panthers had the momentum and put 11 shots in 5 min. Bruins coach calls the timeout and the Bruins score the goal and its 4-1.
That is what Lalonde didn't do one single time.
Yzerman should have learned by now that his coach sucks big time.

Yeah

Still better then let's just add junk from FA or I expect everyone of our draft picks to become stars
Legit though...It's not a guarantee but I don't think the idea of Marner being traded is at all unrealistic, and we're one of the teams that can make it work.

Wonder what salary Mantha would command in FA now? Maybe he could be our Sprong replacement!

He'll get the same contract as Sprong did this year, 1 year $2M deal with a bubble team or worse. No playoff team will want him, but he can help a team get to the playoffs. Mantha's stats are the same as Sprong's, they both get scratched every season for lack of effort. Both can score even when playing on lower lines, and both players are useful on PP2.

The funny thing about the situation is that Blash got criticized a lot for not being able to motivate players, and Mantha did better under Blash than any other coach. I doubt Fester can motivate him.

His stats were inflated by high SH% this season, he'll be a 30 -35 pt player on the Wings. No thanks.

Kyle Connor is the player you are looking for.

I'd do this if we could sign him to a contract (term + money) based on the player he has been since the start of the 22-23 season, but in a bidding war, I'm only guessing that someone will he stupid enough to factor in the player he has before that small but norticeable drop-off and we'll have to pay for the 2017-2022 player that *probably isn't someone that will emerge again* on a deal that would begin with him at age 30.

Personally in the scenario I described above, I think whatever contract he gets would be worse than Copp, Compher, or Chiarot were even at the time.
