How can we upgrade the goalie position ?

From Laine there were no problems in the locker room, Davidson's words and were more of a revenge for what Patrik said
. He was right by the way, as he asked for a trade in Dec 2023 or Jan 2024.Waddell said the same thing. But if he didn't tell the players the first (he wasn't talking about the whole team), he should have kept his mouth shut.

It feels like one of a few options 1. he takes a shot at one of the cap strapped teams goalies. Washington is going to have a tough time paying both Thompson and Lindgren. 2. He goes after a good goalie on a bad or rebuilding team with the MN 1st say Juuse Saros 3. He backs the truck up for someone like Adin Hill (Doubtful and likely a bad idea given the defensive issues our team has or 4. He overpays wildly to pry a legit goalie like Joey Daccord off of a team (almost certainly not happening)
I might be more interested in joining this discussion later on. Currently Elvis is playing very well.
I think it's more about option 2. If Tarasov comes around and atleast gives us average goaltending that would be pretty big. If he starts to falter again it would be nice to find a veteran backup option to not run Elvis into the ground

I've been saying this, I think an experienced goalie as backup for the rest of the season would be huge.
James Reimer would have been perfect, and he was available.

Ah.... goalies... such a fickle thing. Now it appears both Elvis and Tarasov are playing well... OR... is the system finally taking hold and the team buying in giving up fewer prime chances. The reduction in soft goals is huge, the big saves in key moments have returned and overall they are playing well. Can they show some sustainability? that's been the issue, not whether they actually have talent. So this short stretch is awesome...let's see where it goes over the next couple of months.

There’s no doubt the system and structure is the major factor in these goalies having success . Ever since Mateychuk has been input in the lineup and about 5 games ago Severson came back from Evason lighting a fire under his ass , the structure has been great , and when there has been a breakdown our goalie has come up with a big save . In this past week we gave up 1 goal at St L, 2 against Philly, 1 against SJ , and 0 against NYR . I’m intrigued on Tarasov , Elvis no matter what at minimum needs a scenery change . Hope he plays well enough down the stretch that his contract is tradable .

Does Elvis need a change of scenery or do we as fans just want to move on from him?
Maybe what we do to improve our goalie situation is to do what Waddell said he was going to do for Elvis back before the season started. To give him support, encouragement, and opportunity, to explain to him what they thought he could do that would complement what the organization was doing to support him.
Maybe it’s (public) patience with Tarasov, working to convince him that a short stint in the minors could be just what he needs to get his mind in the right place.
Maybe it’s a concerted effort to improve the team defense, no easy thing, especially when you’re not significantly turning the roster over and that roster isn’t exactly geared toward playing a stifling, shut-down type of game.
Maybe improving the goaltending is about improving the culture (yeah I know this is a nebulous thing).
Don’t mean to suggest changing the players in net shouldn’t be pursued, just trying to think about the question in light of recent play.

I think that the new FO is basically trying to play the best hand with the goalies they were dealt.
Elvis has been essentially on double secret probation the entire year in terms of both attitude and performance. So far he's got a passing grade. Not a good grade but a passing mark.
It's pretty clear that the FO sees a great deal of potential in Tarasov or they would have waived him and been done with him a while ago. Instead they've played a game of stressful chess with Tarasov and his agent trying to buy time with "conditioning" stints in Cleveland when the goalie and his agent have agreed to do that. Tarasov was a 3rd round pick 7 drafts ago by a departed FO so the current management doesn't have anything tying them to him. They just think he's good enough to keep. His recent performances would justify this belief.
Greaves has done a commendable job as a fill in. He's waiver exempt so he gets to be the yo-yo in the equation and get regularly bounced between the AHL and the NHL.
If Elvis and Tarasov continue to perform as they have recently, there isn't a need for an upgrade. If either or both falter, then the FO will be forced to pursue either one or two goalies in the off season. Getting a capable goalie midseason is almost impossible so even when the goalie situation looked grim in Columbus there wasn't much DW could have done except work with the three goalies that he had.
