How bad would you kill for our old team?

If we didn't trade for Nash, and Gaborik/Richards still were the awful players they were this season....then what?

yea I am fine with the current team, loved Dubi but hes overrated. Miss AA but Brassard looks good. Nash and Gabby are a wash but I do think Nash is the overall better player.

They need to get their team chemistry going. I actually think they should keep most of the same crew going forward just change the system and tweak a few spots

This guy gets it.

The fact that the Rangers failed to make the SCF last year, despite their insane puck luck (how many one goal games did they win?) and favorable playoff matchups, says it all to me. Sure it was nice to watch a team play for each other and show resilience against adversity, but I had zero confidence that that kind of luck could be in any way sustainable. I'm not pining for those good old days at all.

Hated that team as much as anyone could hate a hard working team that finished 1st in the conference with 109 points. A bunch of grinders that made me want to kill myself watching my favorite team play. It was just ugly ugly hockey. At least this team had some exciting moments.

This current Rangers team has pretty much the same number of grinders.

guy i miss most from that team is definitely dubi...then artie, prust and brad richards. lol

lol you can't be serious...that team was awesome until they ran out of steam against nj. there were exciting moments this year? you mean for the other team?

this season with the exception of the 5-0 game 7 win over washington there wasn't a single game this season that i didn't yell the phrase 'i hate this effing team' at my tv atleast 4 times, even in games that they won.

i've never in my life turned off a game before it was done until this year, this year i turned off the game during the first period regularly cause the team made me wish i wasn't a fan anymore. this past year was on par with the late 90 days of valeri kamensky and ted donato

Losing Anisimov and Dubi was a fatal blow. LOL.

ZOMG, what we could've done with their production!

Get over last year. The team, some how became a 1st seed, and struggled like a bunch of losers in every round. Including being embarrassed by the Devils.

Sad state of affairs that that team is looked up to. :puke

The Rangers advanced last year specifically because Pittsburgh and Boston both lost in the first round, two teams we can. not. beat. consistently.

The Washingtons and Ottawas of the world, we can take them... as we proved again this season by dispatching Washington again (and again in 7 games).

We could also handle a 2011 Philadelphia or a 2012 Toronto.

But Boston and Pittsburgh are out of our league.

...........................

I also have to go back to the person who said Dubinsky is like Callahan. How's that? Dubinksy has scored 12 goals the past two seasons. Callahan has scored 45.

It's not anywhere close.

Everything about the Rangers last year was a 1-trick/1-season pony. Which is why I was so bitterly pissed about Tortorella this year.

He didn't change a damn thing strategically from last year when everybody else saw that he needed to as soon as the Devils put that puck past Lundqvist in OT.

Last year was great, no question about it. But everybody needed to move on from it, especially our HC & his assistant Sullivan considering the altered personnel from start to finish this season. It was mind-boggling that they changed nothing up.

that was a really good and fun year. with the winter classic and 24/7 i really loved that team. it would have been better with less prust and boyle though

good season. 24/7. winter classic.

bottom line, our scoring dried up in the end. We were getting knocked out in the first round by Ottawa with Chris Neil intimidating everyone.

if not for Krieder we don't advance. We were being coached into a first round collapse.

revisionist history at work.

Good God, not at all. Really like the current squad. I put a lot of the struggles last year on Torts' system plus Gabby and Richie' decline.

Looking forward to seeing the current squad with a full summer to heal, a full training camp and a new coach who hopefully won't default to falling back further and further on defense when things get tough.

The Rangers advanced further in 2012 than they have since 1994. I wonder how you felt about all the years in between.

Better yet, I wonder how you'll feel if and when Vigneault opens it up and this team loses in the 1st round next season.

Some people are unbelievably fickle around here. Trying to downplay 2011-2012 shows an utter lack of understanding regarding this organization's history. What right to the Ranger have to be a team that dominates everyone and wins pretty on a consistent basis?

The Achilles heels of a tortorella system has been in full display for quite a while.

A trip to ECF doesn't diprove the above. No Kreider... first round exit. A 3rd line grinder nearly knocked
Us out single handedly while they collapsed into target gallery defense.

A loud mouth bully with pedestrian coaching skills.

Some here are truly delusional.

Richards was so clutch that year it was unreal. As if it was drury playing in his prime in a richards jersey.

Whatever problems he had this year are hopefully gone. If he can get back into form it would be incredible.

I miss all of those players, but the only one I'd actively seek to get back is Dubi.

And maybe Prust

I don't care right now about the past teams. The team that will be working next season is what's to be cared about, and to see them progress and play better hockey

prust i understand but why would you want dubi over arty? arty is better than dubi at every part of the game. dubi is also on a hideous contract.

Dubinsky was a faster skater, a harder hitter, a top notch PKer, impossible to remove from the puck, could play on every line from the 4th the the 1st, stood up for his teammates and happily dropped the glvoes, and depending on the night, decent offensive instincts. Even more, he plays our most depleted position: left wing

Seemed like everything was going the Rangers way last year. Such a shame to lose to the Devils, who go on only to be completely overmatched by the Kings. I know the HF mentality for the most part is, if your team doesn't play like a combination of the 80's Oilers + 70's USSR, then you're boring, but that was such a fun season.

The best part, in addition to winning practically every game, was the losing team's fans always were so frustrated, every time it was "The Rangers didn't win, we beat our selves, yada yada".

^^

Yeah. The rope-a-doping we accomplished on some teams was definitely enjoyable.

I really miss Dubinsky a lot. Guy had little time or respect for anyone. He had no problem getting up in Ovechkin's face, Crosby's face, M. Richards' face and dealing with the consequences as they came. It's an attitude we were sorely missing this year.

You guys will bounce back IMO. AV is a really good coach, you have a really, really solid team. If by someway you guys don't buyout Richards I think AV may be able to resurrect his career. AV will get the most out of all players, he's very good at that. AV will love Derek Stepan and I could see him developing into peak Ryan Kesler. Good luck guys!
