This might be the most mind-boggling career stat in any sport. You eliminate every goal he's scored(And that alone is the most in NHL history) and he'd still be the all-time point scorer in NHL history.
Not that amazing, I'd like to see him score 90 pts on this year's Capitals![]()
maybe the fact that he played on stacked team probably helped him a little
He can thank half of his records to the fact that Mario played under 1000 games in his career.

Exactly. He got 212 points in a year playing with rookies/second liners; basically doubling the next best on his team in the process.
Gretzky was the stacking.
Exactly.
Gretzky- 92 goals/212 points
Anderson- 38 goals/105 points
Coffey- 29 goals/89 points
Messier- 50 goals/88 points
Kurri- 32 goals/86 points
Clearly Gretzky put up all those points because Messier and Anderson were on the second line. They were really padding his stats from the bench. Even though teams were putting best shutdown players out against Gretzky's line and if anything, having a 2nd line that was good probably took away from his ice time.
...and obviously he had 120 assists that season because he had Kurri and his 32 goals on his line![]()
